The one thing that made Hürrem stronger than other women around Süleiman and let her win the endless game for his affection was the fact that she truly was ruthless and never let anyone dominate her or order her around. I think she would have done it if Hürrem had focused on her relationship with Suleiman but in the end the fact of always being attacked by Hürrem and looking like the damsel in danger made her pass for the poor victim of the moment.
