Yep. Hurrem was never really punished for any wrongdoing. At least not by the sultan. He mistreated Mahidevran for 10 whole years, but Hurrem beat, burned and killed without consequences. He was the one to blame.

Gulnihal was a sweet girl and a good friend to Hurrem. She deserved some love too. I can't imagine what life was like for the women who were never chosen, who had to be handmaids to the favorites; bridesmaids but never brides.

They dont have a poor life, staying in harem was the best option for them. They could always be sold on cotton plantation, where the conditions were terrible. In harem they were treated more like the students than a slaves. Valide was the headmistress of the school. They could be also married off and they could demand liberation from Sultan after the 9 years of stay in harem. Slavery in Ottoman Empire was temporary not pernament like in Rome. Gulnihal was not so innocent as she pretended, she surely wanted to take Hurrem place

?? In the ottoman harem the women were usually groomed to marry other elite men and or to attend to other women in the dynasty. I believe there is a scene where Hafsa tries to marry off Hurrem against her will. Pretty much something of that nature occured in the harem where the women converted to Islam, were taught etiquette, learned Arabic and Turkish and were prepared to marry. That is what usually happened to women whom were not chosen as the sultan's favorite.

The way Hurrem felt is totally valid, she trusted Gulnihal as her freind. Gulsah was much more loyal to Mahidevran compared to Gulnihal. Gulsah didnt even want to marry in order to stay by Mahidevran side.

Actually the only one can blame is suleyman, harem should told him,

In real life the valide sultan treated both hurrem and mahidevran equally and tried to maintain peace between them. The valide sultan preferred hurrem because their opinions matched and she was strong . While she adored mahidevran for being the mother of the first born. Unlike in the series. I don't think she was even close to being tolerant. She was always rude with hurrem and tried insult her all the time for no reason. She even tried to kill her multiple times by poisoning her and instigating the harem girls against her. She didn't even regret her face being extremely disfigured because of her. And always protected mahidevran despite all her crimes. And hurrem ruled the harem very well. She did a lot of charity works as well. As time went she became more experienced and better.

This is one of the reasons I dont like Hurrem. Gulnihal didnt have a choice, even if she didnt want to go to Suleyman she would have to otherwise she could be banished from palace or sentenced to die. Hurrem burned her best friends face! Hurrem stomps all over them without hesitation. Future women noticed Hurrem and how she rose and continued to emulate her success.
