Ойын-сауық

In today's episode of DnD Horror Stories, we have a tale about a group that streams their game online without telling the Dungeon Master. Then we have a story about someone that is a bit too excited about a possible game. After that, we have a tale about a player loosing his character in session 0. Story 3 You hit it right on the head. Either this DM was so highly incompetent in encounters that he accidentally killed the Cleric and tried to blame THE CLERIC for his fuck up… Or the DM had bad blood with Cleric and was trying not to kick him out of the game without actually kicking Cleric out of the game.

"Why go through all that trouble and try to hide where op can't see?" Because if they had asked and let the dm know, they would have likely asked for a cut of whatever profits/revenue came from the streaming. Yes, I'm aware there's not a lot of money in it, but still. First story: Yikes! Good thing OP is taking legal action. Second story: Yeah, I’m with OP on not wanting to invite Chuck to the game. This guy’s complete lack of patience or respect for OP’s time tells me that he would be a nightmare to have as a player. Third story: What the fuck, DM? You don’t get to blame a player for a decision YOU made for them! If there’s a PC you don’t want in your game, just don’t invite that player or approve that character concept! Fourth story: Sounds like Main Character Syndrome to me. “How dare he speak to someone other than me? I’ll show him! Waaah!” No idea what the fuck the rest of that rant was about, though. None of what happened had anything to do with gender or Catholicism.

In Germany, you can't just spread someone like that without permission. Everyone has the right to their own image. And what punishment awaits you in court depends entirely on how big the audience was or is. And it also depends on how much remorse the perpetrator shows, how likely it is that they will do it again, how many times they have been in court. But usually you don't end up in jail for that, you get a fine and eventually you have to pay damages to the victim. But it is difficult to predict how high the compensation will be. Depends on how good the judge is and how good your attorney is at negotiating. And "how believable" the damage caused is.

Ah story 3, classic. Once had a DM who did this constantly, during my character's opening the DM said I was hunting, then two boars charged from a bush, dealing 3d8+2 damage, instantly killing my level 1 monk. DM said it's my fault, Boars are really weak, I'm meant to be an adventurer etc... DM says some priest brings me back but everyone in town is mocking my monk for being so weak, we leave town and suddenly 12 CR0 demons appear, getting surprise rounds on us, that's 12 attacks all with advantage, due to the automatic surprise round, admittedly they only do 1d4+0 damage on a hit, but at level 1 I only had 8HP, I go down immediately, the barbarian's on like 2HP and surrounded, he then picks me up and runs and again the DM's mocking us "HOW ARE YOU SO BAD?! THEY CR 0! I COULDN'T GIVE YOU AN EASIER FIGHT IF I TRIED!". Then later he puts down 2 CR 2 demons saying "ugh, this is gonna be an easy TPK, if you couldn't handle CR0 you can't possible handle these guys", we beat them, DM was again so stupid "HOW CAN YOU BEAT THESE GUYS IF YOU CAN'T BEAT CR0 DEMONS?!" logic fails this guy...

Definitely sounded like the OP was part of the problem by actively avoiding engaging with the other player because they wanted their character to remain static. It sounded like a great scenario for roleplay and the silent player probably could've played into it by sometimes replying after a tough battle to acknowledge the other player. Definitely feels like there are stuff missing here.

That 4th story has implications of missing details. Even the least reasonable won't say utterly random stuff like "didn't play a girl" and "catholic-phobic". As someone very nonconfrontational, I know about stewing in thought and making mistakes after it builds up enough, and that story didn't entirely add up. Feels like he was catching some flak OOC for some personal things, and the quiet character was the last straw at the time. Doesn't make his reaction right, but makes a lot more sense if that's the case. Rarely is one side completely innocent.

  • @Darkloid21

    @Darkloid21

I don't think so. I think some people just can't handle things going their own way. Catholic phobic likely came from the fact he was a paladin. There were no missing details, it's just a guy who couldn't handle someone not playing by his rules. He even said that instead of respecting his character he took it as a challenge to open them up or "fix" them. Major main character syndrome. I don't see what didn't add up. Guy lost it because someone wouldn't play by his rules.

For Story 4, I agree that Jack responded terribly. But, in truth, I can understand his frustration. The thing is, nowhere in this story did the OP ever indicate his monk even acknowledged the paladin's attempts to be friendly and strike up a conversation. He could have nodded, smiled at him, shrugged, made some sort of gesture. But we have no indication he did anything besides look straight ahead and act like the dwarf wasn't even there. Then, when he finally speaks in character, it's to the exclusion of Jack's paladin, addressing the other two but ignoring the paladin. After all his efforts to be friendly and build up a rapport with this monk, only to be given the cold shoulder, to then be left out of the first time the monk finally says something, probably felt like he was getting deliberately snubbed. Believe me that I understand not liking peer pressure. In person I'm fairly introverted, and while I can hold a conversation I'm not one for being the life of the party or the center of attention. But if your character isn't at least trying to reciprocate when a party member engages with them, then you're not being a very good team player. Again, I'm not saying he should have suddenly had his monk become a chatterbox, but even Silent Bob actually responds to what Jay says in a nonverbal way, be it a nod, a headshake, or a gesture.

From the sounds of the examples given, most of that stuff would've needed to happen regardless of OP's involvement. Not sure what they were really adding to the experience that an NPC or even a party pet wouldn't. Not saying Jack is in the clear, but I feel like OP didn't properly show that Jack was wrong about them being hard to RP with.

*Speaks in Catholic* Calisse... What was his problem, Oestie? On another note, I have played a silent character. A Dragon Age, Qunari mage. He hated his situation, and as a mage he was not permitted to truly speak, or have an opinion. He wanted to join the Grey Wardens, but there was proper issues that he understood would cause legal and social troubles with the Qunari. So he was essentially "drafted" by the Grey Wardens, cause the head realized my character wanted to join, but there were issues involved. It was the cleanest way he could become one. He was very intelligent, but was silent, and everyone relied on him, asking him for advice, and getting nods and growls as answers. But when he spoke, there was wisdom that everyone valued, and considered.

Side note, had that happen to me, too. I contacted someone about running a Cyberpunk game, thinking I'd need a player or so to add to my friends who liked the system. A short while later, he sent me a group link without saying anything, so I jumped in, and he goes: "Here you go, ten players ready to roll". I just told the group that I wasn't looking for a troupe, I had been recruiting one player, and that guy had just misled all of us, before leaving group. No, I am not inviting him to my next game.

Okay here’s my 2 cents on that last story. Keep in mind that we’re all severely missing context from this story and are only seeing this from one player’s POV. From my personal experience, as somebody who’s played games with players who want to be the silent type, it really doesn’t work in dnd. It’s awesome In shows and movies where narratives are more controlled and sustained but in tabletops, especially ongoing campaigns it can get very annoying to sit down and lay a game with a member of the table just doesn’t contribute. This is all conjecture, I’m basing this off of personal experiences. The op says that they’re very involved in pushing the story forward but all of their reasons for this are related to how they interact with npcs, not other players. For all I know, the players were actually big fans of the op playing a silent character however if the true motive for the other player having their outburst due to frustrations with this archetype getting on his nerves I honestly wouldn’t blame him.

Last one: the most annoying thing a player can do is not engage, so a silent character gets real annoying real quick as it makes a lot of rp options just not available. This just kind of sounds like the apology of that guy who zones out during the "talkie parts" and only likes the combat parts. The role play they are describing is all combat or resource management elements, which is OK if the rest of the group is OK with adventuring with Hugh Man, the fighter. I do not really think either side qualifies as horror story territory, just different play styles clashing.

Many small, unknown streamers have already been blocked from streaming platforms because of something like that. but nobody knows these cases because we are talking about streamers with 3 viewers and stuff like that.

First story: with OP's language of "I went to confront them" and "I felt violated!" I'm willing to bet there's a lot more to why they were blocked than they let on. The group streaming isn't much of a deal, you get recorded all the time (ever been to a store?) and OP going to a lawyer is just overkill. They streamed a game, dude, not frame you for murder. Smells greatly of "everyone is the hero of their own story" when likely villainy is afoot from OP. Normal people do NOT flip their nugget over being on camera

Not wanting to be recorded without your knowledge or consent, especially if you have anxiety or just aren't comfortable with being on camera, is a very normal feeling to have. No clue what your issue is or why you think it's even remotely similar to CCTV, security isnt taking that video and broadcasting it to people. You do realize that your "I think it's fine therefore you don't have a right to be uncomfortable!" attitude can be swung against you, right? Like say, someone at work you really aren't attracted to or don't like gets drunk and super flirty and handsy with you. Well to bad you can't go to HR because that person who made you uncomfortable thinks what they did was okay at totally not different from your grandma giving you a hug and calling you handsome, so your feelings aren't valid. Different situation but the same philosophy you're applying here.

So the first one was terrible but I generally think it was a bit of an over reaction on the OPs part... i'm torn. Of COURSE it was wrong of the players to secretly stream the game and the content should be taken down for moral reasons, and even legally as it sort of touches on the Wiretap laws... but this kind of 'it's horrifying' attitude to it? That's just being overly dramatic honestly... they act like they were doxxed to a huge following or something I garuntee you ANYTHING that was said on that podcast someone else already knows from getting access to your google account or something along those lines... unless you were giving out addresses, names, soc card numbers, or something nothing that was said during those sessions is 'private' information... if I cared enough I could probably gain access to that information right now by doing a little digging starting from the reddit post... information like: Photos of OP: If you have a facebook nothing is secret and nothing is private. Names: Again facebook. IP: Could do something to find it just using the reddit post if I cared too. IP from Reddit would also lead me to getting a little more location and maybe even gps data for the OP (and VPSns don't protect you from someone actively hunting you down... it's more about automatic systems... a human can override and bypass most vpns.... it's not THAT hard). Family Names: Facebook Dog names: Facebook this is the general type of information that that stream would have been able to give out and this small list as well as anything else that would/could have come from it isn't hard to obtain any other way and I promise you someone else already has that information on you. Now I understand the exposure part of it as the stream made them known to more people... but... so did this reddit post and so did Doge reading it on his channel. Realistically Doge reading this reddit post has done more damage towards exposing them than that stream ever did... and yet somehow I feel like OP won't be mad about this video and lawyer up to take it down because they don't actually understand how overly dramatic they are being over that video. ONCE AGAIN the players are wrong, and the video(s) should be taken down... but this whole thing is hypocritic at best. "I don't like exposure" - *Makes big old reddit post and i'm guessing AGREED to allowing Doge (and probably others) to read this story on their youtube*. The OP is the worst kind of entitled person and it's really disheartening because they get mad and said they'd never agree to it... and unless Doge just takes stories without asking they agreed to it here... they agreed to an even HIGHER degree of exposure. That is my issue with OP.

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact everyone involved literally blocked the DM and completely cut off contact with him. That's a fucking dick move. Especially considering the fact they filmed the guy and were posting private sessions for everyone to see. Considering he can't talk to the people involved he's probably using Reddit to vent. That's 100% understandable.
