Watch the BBC first on iPlayer 👉 bbc.in/iPlayer-Home The big reveal, and nature is now part of the entrance hall, much to the Baileys' surprise.
Two couples take the brave step of handing over their front door keys to amateur designers in exchange for a massive makeover.
Sarah Marshall's habit of picking wallpaper off the dining room walls has left both her husband and their house in a state. Steve Bailey's perfectionist streak means he can never finish jobs and wife June has never lived in a finished house.
Overseeing proceedings is straight-talking interior designer Celia Sawyer.

Whoever designed their interior needs to get their head checked. This is the tackiest, most misguided attempt at trying to make something look good.

The upkeep alone on the walls would be annoying. you would have to water all of the plants to keep them alive and add some more lighting just to keep them from dying within the month. Also, without an easy way to access the "fish tank" the water would grow moldy and partially evaporate into the walls. This was just terrible design on multiple fronts.

I am that woman in the show and i never "shitted" on or about my husbands DIY as in what he does is brilliant. However i had lived with my hall unfinished and full of holes for over 7 years and it was getting me down. We went into the show together after been promised we would love the finished product. All i wanted was the holes gone, paint and carpet! The team chose 2 designers that were the exact opposite of what we talked about in the interviews before we said yes to the show. My husband hates clutter and old stuff, so they brought in that 1950s vintage designer and the african guy, well he was a total head the ball. I dont do gardening or fish, they didnt listen to our likes or dislikes , they did what they wanted. I actually asked the African guy " you have been given this opportunity by the BBC to showcase your design skills to the nation, can i ask ,this bizarre idea you have done in my home, had you already decided that this is what you were going to do no matter whose home you went into and he said YES! Shame the audience didnt see the uncut version of what was really said. We are still living the nightmare in our bedroom . The plants went out the very next day as did the astro turf.My husband couldnt sleep in our bedroom as it was too light. If anyone thinks we have had an easy time since then you will be very much mistaken. The tv company did not come back and sort any of the disaster out we were left too it.

Something like this is happening as I'm typing this, the designer for the house the company I'm working with, must be crazy she has had us install almost 2,000 2ftx4ft, 100lb limestone tiles in the interior and exterior of the house, and there are still well over 1,000 more to be installed, the ceiling has mocha wood flooring, while the flooring has terrible textured tiles that will run from the inside the floor of 4he house to the front patio, and back patio, the house is literally 2 colors peach and mocha with white textured tiles for the chimney. My coworkers and I all think it looks terrible but the designer thinks it looks nice...will update with the owners reaction once she sees the final results...

I have seen the full episode and the host first gets a glimpse of the house before the couple returns and she was equally horrified. She said things like ‘oof’ and ‘what have I walked into’ and she thought the toilet wall aquarium was stupid. The designer responsible for the hall said that he had lots of ‘fun’ with the hall and that the was on a planet of playfulness and later said ‘knowing what I know now (about their reactions to this style), I still have no regrets. After their reactions, he also said to the camera well ‘beauty is in the eye of the beholder’ when defending his room. The 2 designers first create one room each, 1 designer had the hall, the other had the bedroom. After the couple react to their design, they are supposed to listen to the feedback and use that to create the living room. The bedroom designer said that she was gonna hold back on the living room and really try to focus on what June and Steve want. Meanwhile, the hall grass aquarium designer was just sulking and muttered on how he felt like the terrarium he brought, according to him, his ‘radical creativity’ had been put into a biological sphere or something

Having just seen this design reveal , I am left to wonder how in good conscience and reputation, BBC could have allowed this couple to walk into what the BBC KNEW was HORRIFIC! Tremendous amount of admiration and respect to the home owners for not creating an episode for the news edition of the BBC. One last word, as a designer would you want your reputation attached to that botanical train wreck?!!

I come back to this every couple years for a good laugh. I REALLY love plants, but that horrific yellow light and narrow hallways was claustrophobic. The fish tank bathroom window was hairbrained, and the bedroom was my dream Barbie home when I was 11? WHATTTTTT It's so funny but also so very bizzaire.

You have got to be kidding, right? Who the hell has let that horrific trauma become reality?!!!? If I didn't see this atrocity with my own eyes, I would have never ever believe someone could be so furiously devoided of any kind of taste whatsoever. What a disgrace... If I had been the owner of that house, the whole new decoration disclosing part of the program would have been a bleep every second word! Taking this distasteful horror apart would have begin as soon as the lady in the blue dress would have set foot outside my house, not a minute later! Good God! These poor folks... I hope that they had someone to help dismantle this abomination.

Regarding this episode, I’d say it’s dangerously close to appearing like a prank show, that’s the sad result of it. The designers clearly had this in mind, probably before even meeting the homeowners. You can tell they didn’t listen to them at all and just did whatever the heck they wanted to do for their own fun. I would’ve had visions of torching the stairs, just for starters.

poodlegirl55 This show ('Changing Rooms') is the one that the format of 'Trading Spaces' in the U.S. was/is based on. It originated in the UK first (airing from 1996-2004). 'Trading Spaces' first aired from 2000-2008 and just got rebooted in April 2018. I'm in the U.S. and watched both versions ... along with the U.S. reboot in 2018. I love these shows and sincerely feel for any home owners who got stuck with dud designs like this one. Hildi Santo Thomas on 'Trading Spaces' always has always done the most avant garde (translation: truly bizarre and widely disliked) designs. She's still doing them in the reboot. I could imagine her doing something this awful in one of her 'Trading Spaces' designs. She infamously put hay on the walls (mixed in paint color and I think possibly something else like plaster) of one the homes she designed. The friends having to work on that home kept pleading with her to not do it because the home owners had kids. She didn't listen and did it anyway. Her episode always reminds me of this 'Changing Rooms' disaster.

kingtoyab69 The host has not done this. It’s the designers.
