An interior designer shouldnt be about putting THEIR taste into someone's house. It's about being sympathetic to the build, light, space and those living within the home. Class over fad anyday!

@maximillion8442 , I think a designer can both do both. They can make a statement that would be within the purpose of the show without insulting the homeowners and their family needs.

What's the woody designers obsession with Islamic stuff? Yes the family are Islamic but it doesn't mean they want their whole house to scream it. I'm a vegetarian but doesn't mean I want my entire living room made of vegetables..

Yeah I think stuff like that should be left to the family themselves. The religion aspect should be thought of to avoid things that they might not want (for example no Buddha statues or animal pictures in the direction ppl pray in). I think they didn't think that much about making ppl feel comfortable and safe in their homes and that's a pity. But I also think the designers should be allowed to talk to the family.

I was really worried about how these artistic girls would manage to think about the practicality of cleaning surfaces. I was so happy that the family liked the end result. They came in simply to impose their "off planet" or "mother earth" ideas, not to mention a brothel room for Grandma Lilly - and to hell with what anyone else thought. This poor family with small kids. No consideration for them whatsoever. Ugh. A Madam - A Space Cadet - and A F'in Hippie. Cannot bear to watch another episode of this show - ever.

the dark blue living room can be easily shifted to a pleasant, spacious place by keeping the fireplace wall in the same shade but shifting the colour of all other walls to a much lighter shade of blue. Nigel, Tracy and Lily were quite sweet. I love that Nigel and Tracy got teary eyed when the saw Lily's room. I think that changing 3 of the walls in the sitting room to a light grey or light blue would make it much better. Pandora's living room was rather dull and boring. I love wood, but that was just stupid. The kitchen was amazing and I really hate the industrial look. I really like that. I was very surprised.

The fake tan, hair and over the top makeup need all toning down. She doesn’t need it, she would look lovely in more classic, age appropriate outfits! Some elocution lessons wouldn’t go astray! And may even help her win over a few extra clients!

I think Pandora (the wood lady) could have done a lot better if she had incorporated examples of South Asian woodwork (which is gorgeous!) in the dining room instead of going in the Moroccan direction. I would have liked keeping the walls and floor tiles simple with a small amount of Chinioti wooden furniture & wall decorations (which are quite detailed) to give it some style. I wanted a mirror with a wooden frame to make the room look bigger and a very small yet vibrant Persian rug in front of the door (and at a distance from the dining table lest food fall on it). (Chiniot is a Pakistani city famous for its traditional furniture and Persian rugs are normal parts of many Pakistani homes). Although it's nice when someone's trying to be reasonably inclusive of another's culture, I didn't like the way Pandora was doing it (I'm Pakistani myself). I don't know if the dining room is authentically Moroccan but it's still cringey that Pandora thought that a Pakistani-British family would "spiritually" or culturally relate to a style from one corner of the Muslim world (i.e. Morocco) even though they originate from the opposite corner of the Muslim world (i.e. Pakistan). And it's entirely possible that such a family would want a completely Western-style dining room than the Pakistani-type one I suggested above. Pandora's dining room looks more like a tiny village mosque's unfinished prayer hall than a place to dine. I am also surprised that the family liked the painting with the Arabic letter 'saad.' It looks like a page out of the book you give children to teach then the ABCs of Arabic. And indeed, without the maddah (an Arabic diacritic mark), it's just a letter of the Arabic alphabet, not the first letter of the Quranic chapter 'Saad.' Nonetheless, I am happy that both families like most of the modifications made to their homes and that their homes are much more impressive now.

People don't realize that it's MUCH HARDER THAN THEY THINK. It's not just a good idea in terms of design (which I don't think was achieved either). But, it MUST be function over form. And when you think that way, it inspires beautiful form, that enhances living. There are SO many different criteria that must be fulfilled for it to be a successful design. People think they get to design for themselves--but that's not what it's about. You have to juggle your own creativity with this "PROFESSIONAL/COMMERCIAL" PROCESS. And that's not a dirty awful thing, it doesn't compromise the vision, it makes it sharper. To bring beauty to the quotidian experience is a great gift...

I don't know that I would trust that presenter. She seems too keen on her own appearance (tight dresses, stupid shoes etc.) and is also very keen on self-promoting as a 'professional' designer.

The Ahmed family looks very lovely, kind and soft spoken. I was wondering how they feel about their rooms with wooden table and chairs after living there for sometimes. Did they adjust to it or they change the whole furniture?

I REALLY LIKE the wallpaper = it looks like my g'mas house in the 1960 , only brighter ... I would have chosen different chairs & I would have brought some colors to soften the dark paper .. but, I really like it ... I am so glad to see the ending too ~ ty

I'm five minutes in, and this is the first episode I've watched, and I've got to say the hostess of the show is just a weeeee bit .....overdressed (?!?!) ..... I mean.... she looks like she is channeling Madam Yes from The Flintstones. Uncomfortably-so. Mockingly-so.

I do feel that they purposely pick the wrong designers for the wrong families - that some of the other designers in this show would have done well in this house and these designers would have done well in a different house ... probably for ratings and extra drama i guess

i liked the dining room, dont know what all the fuss was about, heavy chairs i think was the only issue, the lounge was very modern but the colours were too cold for a family atmosphere, if all the cabinetry had been left natural blond wood as pandora had thought of it might have been nicer, kitchen was faultless, even if not to their exact tastes atleast they got magazine style interiors that they could never have gone for if they had not taken this offer or participated in the show, so happy for the lovely family

vanillaorange1 lovely dining room I totally agree. I mean do they just want something boring? It was so innovative and beautiful. Perhaps it was against brief which really wouldn’t be ok though....I didn’t watch the briefing part of the show

All actually really nice. I really love that black wall paper. The host isn't very good at judging. The wooden dining room could have worked if it wasn't closed in and chairs were lighter.

Interior designers should not design a place on how they want it, they did wanted to what they want and like. They have not considered that other people are maybe not completely into their style and have to find a midway which is not too hard to transform in a different direction if they are not happy with it.

I have only watched the beginning so far, and I actually like the Ahmed family's minimalist-retro style. Just a bit of 'softening' is all it needs, so it will look slightly more cozy. It's nice and clean/uncluttered, but I'll bet the designers just ruin it.
