Just got a 490 low boy/wheels... thanks for this and the cleaning video on it. Doing a ton of fencing with semi-transparent stain this weekend. Good to have a professional Graco Airless, rather than the cheaper big box versions that I've used in the past.

@@theCOATINGlife - I used mine for the first time today - spraying a bunch of Penofin semi-transparent stain/sealer on rough redwood fence pickets - it went really well (311 tip). One thing I noticed was that Graco no longer puts the digital panel on the Ultra Max II 490 Pro. It's bluetooth only. You get all that info on your phone now. I kept looking for the fold-out panel because every YT video I had seen, and even the manual for the sprayer itself, mentions the screen. Thanks Jeff, much appreciated. Yes, you should put in one drop of throat seal every time you spray on all machines.

What kind of sprayer did you recommend for thicker material, like waterproof, I like your videos by the way, they are really helpful.

Hey Leonardo, thank you kindly. When it comes to waterproofing there are so many different systems so you really need to discuss with either your Graco rep or coating supplier for the right pump for you... having said that, a Mk V or 1595 would most likely be a starting point unless you are referring to vertical systems then a 795 might be enough. Yes, this is a very versatile unit that can spray all day everyday. Graco 490 Mk2 low boy or lowboy on a cart. Thanks for your comment.

If taken care of properly, how long would you say a machine like this will last? (Hours of spraying that is, not sitting on a shelf lol)

Years and years, It is hard to say exact number of hours as it depends on the frequency of packing and piston replacement as well (should be done every 700-1000 gallons). Having said that I have seen units last for 20 years. I still own my first 490 that I ever bought (which I bought used from a pawn shop). 10 years of regular use for sure.

do you ever put vasline on the threads that way its easy to take off and on and no paint will not stick the to treads

Hey Gareth, no, I’ve never put Vaseline on the treads though. That’s a good idea. We usually put grease on our threads. I’ll ask John are spray tech if he has ever done that and get back to you.

That’s great feedback, I love Graco! I have been so happy with each of their products. So easy to maintain and can work so hard day after day. I got a few more Graco videos in the pipeline

Is this a smart investment for a one man operation as a side hustle? Yes, I'm aware of the price. Mainly for residential interior and exterior. Or should I consider something different?

Excellent question, if you can afford it then you will not be disappointed. They are fantastic to maintain and to operate. You won’t find any limitations for residential interior exterior. You can run it for 12 hours every single day if you wanted to. If you’re looking for something a bit cheaper you could go for the 390 but you won’t get the longevity out of that one and for spraying ceilings to finish the 390 might struggle with a larger tip

That’s it!! Glad I could help, I think you’ll be very happy. I have four units of the 490 and only one 390. We don’t even bring the 390 on site it’s just a worst-case scenario back up. I’d love to hear back from you once you’ve run it through its paces for some feedback.
