Going back to Russia. Alone.
Today, i'm going back to Russia. It is September 2022, and today I am traveling on a 40 hour train from Almaty, Kazakhstan to Novosibirsk, Russia and then, all being well, taking a 5 hour bus on to Kemerovo, Siberia, my hometown. This is the first time I have been back to Russia in over 9 months (since January 2022), and the first time back in Siberia for more than 18 months. One of many big differences between this time and the last time we went to Russia is, I am alone.
After what has seemed like a lifetime apart, I could not miss this opportunity (being so close) to see my family, especially my gran, who hasn't been in the best of health at all this year. Unfortunately Matt couldn't get visa for this trip, but I just felt that I had to go.
So on that note, lets head north, through the steppes of Kazakhstan, in to Siberia, Russia, and on to my home town, to my family x

Wow. I don’t know why, but I found this by accident and was curious because of the title. Couldn’t stop watching it. Somehow you captured more than just a personal journey. I was wondering about all the people, you captured everyday people doing their everyday stuff in their everyday life, all involving things and ways that are unknown and unfamiliar to me. Thank you for the extra effort of documenting it for us.
I got tears in my eyes, I miss my family in Russia. Your vlogs have soul, keep on warning up our hearts❤

I am happy you were able to spend time with your babushka and sister. My children's Grandma is stuck in Ukraine. We have no way to get to her or get her out. Each day is a nightmare. But your video shows how simple and happy life can be to be with your loved ones. Separation only makes us appreciate them more thus every moment with our loved ones is a precious gift! 40 часов езды в масштабах России это мало. Я ехала 7 суток по транссибирской магистрали из Москвы до Восточной Сибири. До самой конечной точки - Дальнего востока еще пару суток езды)))
I have a Polish wife, have been to Poland every year for the past 16 years, wow how it has changed, anyway, - missing each other. A while ago she went home to look after her mum, on her return i said "it was good to miss you" she later realised that being together every day you forget how nice it is, untill you part, and then realise how much you miss that voice in the other room, the emptyness of your pal, your partner, wife, husband, travelling sharer, also the smell of each other, the trust, I get what you were both experiencing, it shows a good solid partnership.
My grandma died in 1980 and I miss her so much. Seeing you with your gran is so special and I’m so glad you have her as you both bring each other so much joy! 🌞

Such a beautiful and heart-warming video. Just goes to show how at the core of everything, everything, lies the family - which creates and sustains life. It is the same everywhere on the planet - North, South, East, West, no matter which country you belong to. Videos like these also show how human beings everywhere are essentially the same, and there is much that unites us than divides us - no matter what culture you from or the colour of your skin, etc. Thanks for sharing this beautiful and small piece of your life, Julian & Matt.

Only cried about 4 times watching this ,Julia your so gracious and I just love your grandma ,she was so happy to see you ❤
Such a sweet reunion with your family. ❤️ I love how you both keep your cameras recording in all different angles- holding your camera while walking, getting in and out of a car, while hugging someone. The camera may be pointing up at the sky or facing the ceiling as you set it on a table, but it makes me feel like I’m a tiny little person traveling around with you in your hand. 🥰
Matt Julia; I have very similar experiences...the separations can kill one inside. But just down the road the separation you'll look back on as just a almost forgettable bump in the road; but the time that you share with your family Julia, THAT you will remember every detail of and will treasure. I know it's a hard choice but it was the right one. I have family in Ukraine, Moscow and Yerevan... all in jeopardy in one way or another... believe me when I say that having that time with them can never be replaced. Praying for you both.

I've been married 10 years and let me give you one piece of advice --it's healthy to not be together 24/7. Everything in moderation. There will be in times in life not by choice that you will have to be alone or travel alone and you need to start implementing that in your life. My wife is from Serbia and I'm in Canada. She goes every year for 3-4 weeks to visit her family and uses all of her personal vacation. I then visit my sisters in Arizona for 2-3 weeks and use my personal vacation and then we save 1 or 2 weeks to go together on a trip and it's been very healthy for us. Yes I don't want her to go to Europe to visit her family but she needs to and I don't need to go with her all the time. While she's gone, I can cook, clean, laundry and go about my life. I'll hang out with my friends or catch up with friends from high school while she's out mixing it up a little bit with my own time and getting peace and quiet in the house. I wouldn't trade it for a thing. We have ultimate trust and respect for each other. We shop together when it's convenient but many times she runs errands or I do it the next time and try to be efficient. If one of us can be at home to do chores while the other is out grocery shopping it makes sense. I just cringe when I hear my friends talk about how both of them go together for everything in life. It is so impractical and given your limited time after work, you only have a few hours before going to bed to get the essentials done.

I would be lucky if you were my sister's husband. No kidding! I am from same part of the world as your wife, just across the border with Serbia and my sis lives in UK: Since she got married her husband did everything to create the space which is 24/7 reserved exclusively for them and their kid. Nobody, including my family is allowed there, so I do not see her so much and we were very close whole life. :( I think you got it. Needless to say, she stopped visiting, even though she is in Europe. Just keep being normal and thanks for sharing your story. Mine is bit sad, sorry.

@@denydeni144 I'm sorry to hear about your situation :( Hopefully things change in the future and you are able to see your sister and not treated as some visitor that needs prior approval access (typical Western culture). As you know EE are open, direct, caring but very independent when needed and that is such a breath of fresh air.

Your film, journeying to Siberia is evocative and a little sad. A strange mixture of the small kindness of strangers on a bus or train, and loved ones at home, huge block buildings beyound human scale. It's good to see another side of Russia 🇷🇺 than the bleak comments spouted by some in marble palaces. If matters improve, I hope to visit St Petersburg one day and enjoy the company of Russians who concern themselves with their own, not trampling on others. May the road rise up to you and yours. Robert

Very emotional human story telling of life and love thank you for sharing x
Wow! This video hit me hard. My wife and I met on the internet like 24 years ago. We had to live apart for the first year. It’s such a crappy feeling to have to leave your girlfriend. I can’t imagine how it felt for you with so many more serious circumstances. I’m hoping all turns out well for you guys.

DONT PAY!! People, this channel is a confirmed russian state sponsored channel which is part of russian Stratcom or other influencing programms. You are fooled by fake innocence, sweetness, openness etc. The intention of those programms is 'Truth Decay'. Slowly, gently they are eroding the outside opinion within the oponents community. So dont pay any attention, never give any information and DONT PAY. (look it up yourself). You see many of these so called trolls out here with exact the same story. Natasha, Nikki, etc.
Sending your family much love from the North Of England all the way to Siberia, boy did I cry when you left Matt at the station. As they say, absence makes the heart grow fonder.
