Godzilla Swapped Contiental Trunk & Bumper Exit Exhaust Fabrication - 7.3L 1965 Lincoln Ep. 10

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Last week we fabricated a full set of custom headers to route our '65 Continental exhaust from our 7.3L Godzilla engine, around our steering shaft, and past our firewall. Now it's time to work our way to the back of the Continental. We have to start first by cutting out the trunk of this 1965 Lincoln because we have something wild planned for the very end of this exhaust run.
Once the trunk is chopped out, we can start working our way from our headers back. We're connecting our band clamps to two massively long Vibrant oval exhaust pipes. These will run the length of the Continental until getting to our differential, where we're using some bent Vibrant oval piping to pop over our rear end and into our trunk area. And that's where the real fun begins.
We have an insane Vibrant muffler that we're throwing right where our spare tire used to be, connecting both sides of our exhaust, and combining them into an exhaust tip that's shooting right through our custom fabricated bumper!
Want to hear how this exhaust sounds? Well so do we! But just like us, you're going to have to wait until this build gets farther along. And the only way to do that is to subscribe. So make sure you don't miss a single part of this 7.3L swapped bagged Lincoln Continental Build!

    With as straight-line and linear as the body lines of that rear end is I think a nice wide double walled squared up single outlet Murcielago style tip flush mounted to the pan surface would compliment it a ton more than the round ones that just look out of place among all the strait lines

    For a show car the exhaust is definitely unique. The work quality is, as always, and obviously, top notch! If peak performance becomes a priority I think you folks know there would have to be some reconfiguration in that exhaust. Of course with a 7.3 liter that car is going to be plenty powerful. Especially for a show car. I don't think you all will have any trouble roasting the tires, if you want to do that.

    Craziest idea I've seen in a while. Obviously this was mostly done for looks, as you could easily have mounted a f-body cross flow muffler under the floorpan and had two tips enter the back of the trunk and out the rear panel. Question: Why build a crossover x pipe when you have a cross flow muffler? Looks, again? Question #2: The outlet on the mufler is only 3" diam. Wouldn't you have saved money and space by running two 2.5" exhaust pipes instead of that expensive oval 3.5x2.5 oval stuff? Again, looks?

  • @SalvagetoSavage

    @SalvagetoSavage

    4 ай бұрын

    It should be fine. If you look at a majority of exhaust hangars, they pretty much all have rubber isolators/bushings. That mount is also far enough back that the temps shouldn't get hot enough to cook it that much. If it was on the headers, that would be a different story. Worst case scenario though, if it does get too hot back there, we can always switch it out for a more heat resistant isolator!

    That car is gonna be sweet! What's the reasoning for the x-pipe before they come together in the muffler? Doesn't the muffler do the job of an x-pipe? Also that Godzilla motor might need more than just a single 3" outlet from the muffler. Dual 3" all the way back to a single 3" at the very last 10" of exhaust seems like it would be a bit restrictive at the very end. Couldn't you just make dual 3" outlets from the muffler to keep it opened up? Looks wise it'd be the same at the exit.

    I love the projects you do, and I've seen enough now to wonder whether there is such a thing as an automated pipe bender for stainless steel exhaust tube. I've seen pipe benders at work but mostly for stuff like roll cages and other structural supports. I've also seen pipe benders at work in various muffler shops, but I doubt they bend stainless steel. Maybe I'm wrong - but you guys spend so much time with all the pie cuts and the welding and the grinding and the polishing I can't imagine why you don't have such a machine in your shop... other than the cost being prohibitive. Seriously, though, I bet you'd recoup the cost pretty quickly wouldn't you? Just curious.

  • @SalvagetoSavage

    @SalvagetoSavage

    4 ай бұрын

    Cold beer would definitely be a no go back there! In terms of bending our own pipes, the reason we use the Vibrant stuff is that they have a pretty high end mandrel bender that makes sure that even throughout the bend, the inner diameter of the material doesn't get crushed down. What would happen if we tried doing it ourselves, which is what you end up seeing with a lot of lower end exhaust pipe parts, is that the pipe would start crushing inward where we're making our bend which is not good for air flow

    Great craftmanship, but you lost me on this exhaust. I don't understand the point of taking up the trunk. Wrap those pipes or put in a shield so you don't boil your gas.

    Craftsmanship is executed well. But....the exhaust is goofy, and the tips and bezel just don't match up to the car. The car is classy and boxy. Triangle nothing belongs on it. I feel like the customer has bad taste.

    I'd be pissed if this was my car. You wasted my whole trunk for a freaking muffler? Hell nah. You would be redoing that shlt on your dime. Big block with a single muffler with a single out, with dual tips? Yeah, that's not even smart. This is the biggest waste of money shop on KZread. It's people actually pay for work coming out of here, then they deserve what they are getting

    @@bedtimestorey3162 its a car. Are you saying they destroyed it so bad that it is unusable now? Because I would agree with that. Its a car with a trunk, it should be usable. You should be able to go to the store with it. Hell even TV cars are more sensible and usable then this. They ruined it so bad that it is now just a show car. Thanks for agreeing with me on that Dave Kindig builds $500k show cars that are pristine top and bottom, and they are designed in a way to be driven and used almost as a daily driver. The trunk would have $10k with of leather and design but it would still be a usable trunk. There are real builders out there and then there's hacks. This would be a hack job for views and clicks but it won't get either, which is even worse

    Awesome fab work, but this has to be one of the dumbest ideas I have ever seen, even for a SEMA show car, and they do some stupid stuff. Putting the exhaust in the trunk, so close to the fuel tank, I mean, seriously? Moving the muffler in the trunk and making your exhaust pipe the lowest point of the car is just stupid. I just can't get on board with this. Sorry. Your spacing for the headers in the engine bay and under the car are WAY too small. Is this the first car you have ever built? I can assure you this whole exhaust run will bang and clang around as it drives down the road.

    The truck is open and vented with airflow and the cab of the car will be sealed off the same way we build out a sealed firewall in the back. The exhaust exits out off the bumper so the only unsafe part about it would be if you decide to stick your hand on it after it's been running

    I love the craftsmanship of this channel, but im not a fan of the exhaust design. The point of these cars were to be elegantly simple in design, and now we've created a complicated monstrosity in the trunk. I like the idea of the bumper exit, but a simplistic true dual exhaust would benefit the car and design better
