All others are false." Me: " Please list the criteria you judge other gods and religions and holy books false." Christian list the criteria. @@loki6626, What I like is when Christians say how Islam and the Quran and Allah are evil. They cite the genocide, slavery and murder in the Quran being carried out by Allah or in his name. But as soon as you point out the god of the Bible does the exact same thing or commands it carried out in his name, all of a suddenly the criteria for what is evil changes. They find ways to justify and excuse the very same thing they condemn in the Quran as evil and ungodly.

You missed an opportunity to better understand the motivation of the caller (and the many others like him). For example, the need to assert that their religion is not "a religion": why do they want that? What is their definition of a religion? Why do they need to distinguish theirs? What would they gain by it? Perhaps they want to rise above the pack and be unique and special. Maybe they suspect that "religion" is the hang-up for non-believers, so if they can avoid that label, they can make progress converting. Or maybe, they just use it as the opening line of their sales pitch, hoping to get their audience curious and so wiling to listen further. It would be helpful if you exposed these underlying motivations and needs. Former believers and those in transition would benefit to see the tactics pointed out, exposed, and disempowered.

I'm guessing that he doesn't actually know anything about other religions.

Do you think that there aren't denominations and sects of other religions too? Technically, whether or not Christianity qualifies as a religion depends very much on your definition of "religion". The important point is that the caller is trying to differentiate Christianity by virtue of the fact that other religions are made up without ever demonstrating that Christianity isn't made up as well. The fact is that it's a religion to the same degree that those religions that he accepts as religions are religions.
