Himdal is also odins son but you don’t even get a hint that the cares for him
The details make this _soooo_ good. Thor, a self-proclaimed “Destroyer” and wants Kratos hide on a platter, asks to come in. Brings mead, yet doesn’t drink it, as he’s a recovering alcoholic. You can see it on his face, he wants to sip, but won’t. He sits where Kratos beckons. Kratos _lets_ him come in. Never let’s his guard down, yet honors hospitality. Something the Norse & Greeks highly valued. Odin? He barges in, no invitation. Grabs a stool and seats himself at the head. Downs both glasses of mead poured for others, and starts running his mouth like he owns the place.

"I. AM IN. CONTROL!" Odin is the textbook definition of a control freak. He dictates terms, tries to make others dances on his strings, react to him instead of vice versa. In the final scene where he impersonates Tyr, you see him seated at the head of the table, a sign of authority - though subtly you see Kratos at the other end of the table seemingly challenging him.

@@MrJustonemorevoice It’s heavily implied in many of Thor’s scenes that he is trying to go sober. He doesn’t drink any of the mead he poured (which annoys Odin). His daughter mentions him “breaking a promise” after she and Atreus find Thor drunk. There are implications in many conversations and cutscenes that his wife made him promise to go sober after beating his son, Modi, in a drunken rage, which gave Modi wounds so severe that Atreus easily killed him afterwards in the last game. Basically, Thor is trying to turn over a new leaf and be a better parent for his daughter after failing to be one for his two sons. Unfortunately, the death of his two sons and younger brother naturally hurt him, and wanting to be appreciated by his father, Odin, didn’t help as Odin doesn’t love Thor as his son but as a weapon to point at his enemies. Drinking, if anything, was just a toxic coping mechanism for all the horrible things Thor has done and lost in his attempts to gain Odin’s love.

Ok, this is the most accurate interpretation of Thor and Odin in a LONG time. Thor’s a beserker. He only cares about partying and fighting. The fact his second line in the series is “I have mead”, like that’s gonna convince Kratos, is just amazing. Odin’s the actual trickster god. Two things: When Thor says “you could have told me before I poured,” he meant that he poured a drink for Atreus and Kratos. Not for himself. He’s trying to stop drinking. That’s why he dips his fingers in the mead, smells it, but never actually drinks it, because of the promise he made to Thrud and Sif. The fact that he’s unable to keep that promise later on really puts the statement “we got a model father here” in the boss fight in a different light. When Odin says “you’re no fun anymore,” he’s referring to the fact that Thor refuses to drink. It seems that having Odin as a father would drive anyone to drink.

(some spoilers) I love how you can infer so much from the way Odin treats Thor in his scenes. Like in this one, where he states that Thor "is no fun anymore," simultaneously belittling the deaths of Thor's sons and belittling Thor's efforts to stop drinking. He also belittles Thor later on in the game, when Thor says "what could I have ever taught him (atreus)" Odin replies with "exactly." Odin consistently belittles Thor's intelligence and usefulness, to the point where Thor does it to himself, at least when Odin is around. Odin probably does this as a manipulation tactic, aiming to keep Thor in line by sabotaging his self esteem when necessary and rewarding him with praise occasionally to keep him doing what Odin wants.

The way Kratos is just staring down Thor, not letting him out of his sight for a split second, even when Thor towers over him. Kratos is just a legit badass.
7:08 The moment Mimir sounded like Armstrong
The way Kratos says "no" is really funny to me
Odin:-Your're in debt with us Kratos:-Oh you dont want that..
Odin: So you're the asshole that keeps killing my birds!
Thor almost sounds like Josh Brolin talking as Thanos
What I love most about Odin's facade is he never overdoes it into trying to act like he's a completely good guy, or a completely harmless old duffer. He knows you'll have heard all the terrible stories about him so he doesn't pretend to be "nice" or "stupid" exactly, or directly contradict what's been said about him and thus put you in a position of having to choose whether to trust him or Mimir and Freya (a contest where obviously he'll lose), he just points out they've got reasons to hate him personally and then lets his extremely disarming demeanour do the rest of it. All the time Atreus was with him, despite Freya and Mimir's stories, despite the fact that dangerous killers like Thor and Heimdall obey him even though he treats them badly, and despite him never actually offering a justification for all the stories about him, I found it embarrassingly easy to let my guard down. When you've spent the first game expecting him to be the counterpart to Zeus, and instead of the powerfully-built, thunder-voiced lord of all he surveys you get this little weasel in a cloak that's too big for him and seems like his mind's constantly elsewhere, you can't help but underestimate him.
The details are great. Thor in this scene is trying to stay sober. To control himself, to get better. Later in the game he will relapse but here he is sober. Thor pours two glasses, one for Atreus and one for kratos (which is why he says “you could’ve told me” when kratos doesn’t let Atreus drink). Then Thor takes a big whiff, knowing he shouldn’t drink it. He puts his fingers in the drink and smears it on his hammer. When Odin comes he grabs the cup and aggressively places it in front of Thor. Odin doesn’t want Thor to change. He wants him to be weak. Thor refuses the cup his father offered him, foreshadowing his eventual refusal to listen to him at all, and him dying by the hands of his father.
The voice acting and dialogue is dope! There’s no action until the very end of the meeting, but there’s still an uncomfortable amount of tension!
Thor, beware the wrath of a calm and reasonable man. Abuse his calmness, be unreasonable, and you’ll find out how cruel he can be.

And angry at thor beacuse thor put his finger to the cup before, You know when odin said to thor after drink "youre not fun anymore" 😂
The acting in this scene is next level. Such a memorable moment!
i wont lie, i was actually happy thor was respectful and didnt fight kratos off the bat.

@@AGuyNamedRobin which truly showed the differwnce between Odin and Thor. Thor entered and sat after being allowed in and to sit. Odin just kinda showed up and started blabbing off
Every scene with Thor reminds me so much of John Goodman, voice and appearance… I just can’t get it out of my head lol
Toby Zeigler as odin was no expected. But a good choice

This is how I expected The Boys version of Thor and Odin to turn out

4:45 I was not expecting that build.
One of the greatest scenes in gaming.
This kinda rinds me when my Dad and my Girlfriends Dad met for the first time.
Kratos knew Odin just wanted to buy time since he already sent Baldur to target them
The meeting is intense
just saw this a few days ago but still shocks me
The way that Atreus kinda wanted to run when he went to open the door for Odin.
2:05 Kratos was like, you Big, fought Bigger 😑
I like how Kratos has become much wiser. He has experienced a lot of betrayals in the past by both the Gods and Titans back in Greece. So he is perfectly justified not to trust Odin.
Odin....the businessman....
definitely buying Odin as Baldurs father.
I like the small detail around 7:47. Kratos has his hand on the table but the second Odin puts his hand on atreus, kratos goes for his axe.
why is it that everytime kratos finally lays down someone comes to his front door trying to kill him 💀
I believe thor and kratos could have been good friends
2:09 this mirrors the first game when Kratos meets Baldur. But just imagine how small Baldur is compared to Thor. Getting bully big brother vibes
8:12 "A choice from the gods, is as useless as the gods themselves"
Getting this game Christmas morning would have been awesome. It's almost like thor and Odin were showing up for Christmas breakfast.
Having beat the game I'm noticing all the references to Thor's alcoholism and/or Odin torturing with him in this scene. Swilling and sniffing the mead, Odin shuffling the cup in front of him, "you're no fun anymore," glancing at the cups as Odin drinks, et cetera.
Kratos: "No." And thus was said the best line in the game.
It doesnt feel the same without music.
What you did to his Boys.. ..self defence. From that moment I knew this scene is gonna be legendary
As SOON as I heard Odin I recognized that voice from somewhere. And his mannerisms. Dr. Glassman from The Good Doctor!!
Odin, king of gods, allfather, greatest of the Aesir "You follow me?" *sips mead*
One little touch I love is Odin picking up Thor’s mug, and noticing that it’s still full, looks at him disappointed. Just a great foreshadowing that Odin hates it when Thor thinks for himself to any capacity.
Everybody gearing up for a scrap Thor “fancy a drink and a polite chat cheer chum?”.
