Thor was such an amazing character. Ridden with anger and hate over his dead children, but with enough sense to be able to see flashes that his enemies are not who Odin paints them to be. Conflicted between vengeance and morality, Thor makes for an amazing villain, one that I wish had more of a redemption.

His parallels with Kratos were amazing to see. I think the only difference with him was that he never had the wake up call to be better until his sons died. He realized how much he loved them, and just how terrible he was as a father. If he were different, then maybe they’d still be alive. It appears that his journey for redemption only started in the few years since their deaths.

@@Jeremiah_D. I don't see it that way, to me, Baldur was who Atreus could've turned into. He was the representation of the the cycle of vengeance and family murdering that plagues all the gods. The whole point of GOW 1 (2018) was showing Atreus that even though they're God's, they have to be better than what their baser instincts lead them to do. If Atreus had never been told the truth by Kratos, that he was a God, that his father killed his father etc. He would've grown to resent/ hate his dad much like Baldur did Freya for being ridiculously overprotective. Kratos chooses to tell Atreus the truth because what he thought was protecting the boy, was actually harming and alienating.

There are many differences between Thor and his brother Baldur. Baldur fought wildly, his motivation to inflict pain. Thor is calmer - his bloodlust is for the fight itself, not for the suffering it inflicts. The full force of his attack is as heavy as any I have felt. The Hammer, Mjölnir, only compounds his power... each blow echoes with the death and destruction they have wrought together. He chose to end our fight prematurely. It is good for both of us that it did not reach its conclusion. - Kratos

But when Thor mentioned about Odin having plans for Atreus, then kratos got angry and serious, he then gave Thor a punch that broke his jaw and at that moment, Thor knew that Kratos was a real deal, then Thor left. In the second fight, you can see that Thor at his full strength couldn't even hurt Kratos that wasn't angered, that shows how big the difference in strength is between Kratos and Thor.

I think my favorite thing about this fight is how HEAVY each blow is. Like every attack you do against Thor his body reacts to in some way as if you're the only thing in the nine relms that can even get the man to feel it. While EVERY hit Thor lands on Kratos not only takes a large chunk out of your health but throws you around like you were made of fluff. Nothing in the game makes Kratos react with pain as much as Thor's hammer, and nothing but your hits can even cause the God of Thunder to flinch. It's what ups the spectacal for me in this moment.

I also noticed that if you slow down the vid at 0:33, you can see that kratos legit knocks thor out cold on the second punch as shown by Thors body going completely limp, and kratos having to pull thor back towards him In saying this tho, I absolutely love Thor as a character and wish we saw more of him.

Man. I have literally never played a single GoW game, I basically know the story through lore recap videos and I watched most of the cutscenes for this one and the last one, yet it still doesn't fail to make me feel emotional. Crazy emotional. Thor, the entire game seems to be just a shell of himself, a slave to Odin, who himself is a slave to the fact that he can't know everything. They're all puppets controlled by something higher, their fates are sealed -- or at least they think that's so. Thor is a god, he is immensely powerful, a brute, a destroyer, as he calls himself. I feel for him so much because once you're so deep in this caricature of an identity, you feel like that's all you amount to. There's no way you can be a different person, be better, change. Its even a little bit comforting for you to let yourself stagnate and only stick to the character you know for so long. You're stuck in this rabbit hole and it seems like you can't climb out of it, especially if the people around you validate and affirm this caricature of yourself more than who you actually want to be. Then he meets Kratos. Much like Thor, he was brutal, driven by anger, madness, short-sighted and most of all, blind to what he actually wanted -- peace. He achieved this peace through rage and violence, but it was empty. The real Kratos, deep inside wanted to atone, he knew this anger was false, but he's the God of War -- he has to remain that way, right? No more. He says no more. For the sake of his children, for the sake of innocent people, for the sake of the world, no more. Kratos shows that you can defy the fate or path that people force yourself into. He instills within Atreus the duty to be responsible, to treat immeasurable power with great respect. And he knows more than anyone in the Nine Realms how Thor feels. How stuck he is on his path, how the self-pity and anger fuel him. The denial. He's the first to empathize with Thor. He shows him kindness because he relates, and the fact that this goes through to Thor struck me so hard. Its not about what you've done, who you've hurt, what mistakes you've made, its about how you can grow and continue to be better and atone through not just words and emotions, but most of all through action. A man sees himself in another man and chooses to help the other right their wrongs. To remind us that we can always make a change, we can always be better, we can always be good, we can always break the cycle. We can easily stagnate, we can easily be evil, but to choose to be good in a world full of evils is true strength. That's what Kratos represents and it was so powerful seeing his journey even as a spectator, not a player. What a compelling and touching narrative.

The thing about this fight is it puts into perspective how powerful both Kratos and Thor are in their own right. Thor withstood all 3 of Kratos' legendary weapons fully hitting him and wounding which is absolutely awesome. It demonstrates how much of a behemoth Thor actually is when he continues fighting as if it were nothing and makes it more believable that this is the guy that wiped out the giants. Kratos on the other hand withstood full blows from Mjolnir point blank. Literally, gets struck straight across the face with it and is still standing. In norse mythology, there is a story in which Thor strikes a giant 3 times in the head with Mjolnir which is later revealed to have leveled 3 separate mountains. The fact alone that Kratos can withstand that strike is ,in its own sense, is awesome.

Anyone who says that Kratos is a weak old man in the Norse games is missing the point: Kratos is holding back most of his power because he doesn't want to be the god killer he used to be.

It's not a loop guys, but it is infinite Jormungandrs and timelines. The old Jormungandr tells Loki to go to Ironwood to create him, because if he didn't tell him, he wouldn't exist ( time paradox). By telling him to create him, there exist 2 Jormungandrs in a period of time between the creation of the young one and it being sent back in time: The old Jormungandr who tells you to create him ( the one in Midgard with a beard) and the young one (without a beard) who fights thor while the old one is in midgard . After the young one gets sent back in time, the old Jormungandr is still there chilling, only he remains, BUT the young jormungandr who gets sent back in time, grows old to eventually encounter Kratos and Loki, recognizing them and Loki as his creator. He then later on in ragnarok tells him to create him,(cause otherwise he wouldn't exist) but by telling him to create him, he also creates a new Jormungandr, that goes on to be sent back in time and do the exact same thing. It's not a loop, just infinite Jormungandrs and infinite timelines. Either that, or an infinitely looping single timeline, which Jormungandr is not "stuck in", it's just that his life and moment in time wasn't as linear as other's

Kratos fighting Thor felt like if we was fighting his younger more sadistic version. The one who was fooled by the Gods and use by them as a tool, as Thor is used by Odin. Kratos at the end won not because he was stronger but because he was wiser, he had completed his redemption arch, he got better and understood that revenge it’s not the path, he finally decide his destiny, that’s why he won. Thor at the end started to see it that way, but then he was killed by his father. It’s actually poetic, Kratos won not because of strength, he won because of love.

The craziest thing to me about kratos’ redemption ark is that he always despised who he was. He hated being the ruthless god killing, ghost of Sparta, god of war that he was. But throughout the entire game u see his reserve throughout fights, him telling stories about his homeland, and making new friends along the way. Something that was almost unthinkable for him in the first game. Then when he was named general for the assault on Asgard, it still haunted him, but he took the role and was the best damn general because he was fighting not for vengeance, but for justice. Long story short, kratos became tyr. A god of war who fights only for peace

I honestly think people don't understand this version of Thor isn't the strongest version we see in the game. The Thor at the beginning is the strongest. He is focused, sober, in sync with his remaining family, and his anger and strength are harnessed and pointed at Kratos like a fine blade. At this point in the game he is unfocused erratic undisciplined and out of sync with the people he cares for. I think this was on purpose because Kratos does the reverse. By the time we see this fight with Thor Kratos is at his absolute best self. He knows what he needs to do.

Thinking back on this after seeing Thor fleshed out. I think his first meeting wasn't about getting Kratos to show his true self, as Kratos wasnt holding back his power, but his bloodlust/relentless. Kratos was slowly trying to avoid being a destroyer. I think Thor, wanted Kratos as living proof that, how he(Thor) was is who he always will be. That even if they tried, they will never change. Like "There's nothing wrong with me." Now, Thor who has been fighting endlessly, and possibly poisoned by Jorm is getting weak in strength, and exhausted. All he's ever had was his unmatched brute power. Now that he's finally took a true L. Words can get past his big bellied armored ass, and have meaning. Poor Thor.

Etir Jorm's poison is in the leviathan axe. It's what stops Magni from reviving, and stops Thor's wound from the beginning of the game from ever healing up. Which was gained from Jorm spitting the axe out. Which is subtly told to you the player with "Etir imbued". Mimir wasn't with you so he never seen it happen, and it is referenced "Magni never came back? Why is that?" Mimir has no explanation. 2. In the prophecy it says Thor sends jorm back in time, and it turns out he was poisoned by jorm and dies, we seen he send Jorm back in time, so we can only assume that it happened as such. 3. Jorm is spoken about to be = to Thor, to say Jorm didnt bite Jorm, or didn't poison him would downplay Jorm which doesn't make sense . This is a fight that both Jorm, and Thor are meant to lose in some way. You cant imply Thor just hard bodied Jorm. Finally if we're play from Kratos POV how are we gonna know Thor actually was poisoned if there was nobody there to witness the fight, only the result. As well as, I did say POSSIBLY poisoned, cause as you said there's nothing to say it, but just going off of what we have been told, and from what's shown. I very much do believe it.

But again, nobody has/had to say it. You just have to go off what was already stated. Thor = Jorm Their battle = stalemate Jorm back in time, Thor is poisoned. 6:56 while I haven’t played the game and just watched thor and Kratos fight, I enjoy this line. It’s like Thor found an equal, a brother in a sense. Someone who destroyed things as he did; the only difference was that Kratos killed his father and learned. Thor seemed like a tool from the tiny bit I saw, with no honest independent thoughts. He appeared very submissive; he didn’t talk to Kratos until Odin showed up, then when he finally got the chance to fight Kratos, he was more lively. Thor didn’t believe he could change, he assumed he will stay a destroyer for all the things he’s done and he found someone who could have the same burden.

I think in his first fight against Kratos, an equal destroyer he did his best to bring it out of Kratos to prove that they can not change, and it will be who they are. Used Kratos as an example to tell himself that "There's nothing wrong with him." Though Kratos had Faye who steered him away, Thor had Sif who somewhat encouraged/shared his anger

@@hightierscrub7166 Oh yeah Sif did. Seemed like everyone used him. I saw one scene where she guilt tripped Thor to try and kill Loki

@@superboyx2837 Not really. What Sif truly wanted is for Thor to see that Odin is the real enemy. But Thor was so desperate for a pat in the head from Odin that he misinterpreted Sif's words.
