Kratos and Heracles’ stories are very similar. Both got their powers from gods, both killed their families in a blind rage, both have done tasks to be forgiven for their sins and both attempted to take their own lives only to be given godhood afterwards. Also they both threw hands with Ares at one point

I love how Kratos stares at him

I absolutely love the new GOW game but something about this one from the leap it made graphics wise from GOW 2, to the characters, to the music, to the gameplay was just something else. You just had to be there when this game first came out to truly appreciate it! Forever in my top 5 list!

The funny thing is, Kratos regularly gives his human and demigod opponents a chance to back down or at least just get out of his way. Unfortunately, many of them are too confident, too crazy, too desperate, or too loyal to the gods to do so.

It's kind of neat how Hercules is legitimately the only boss character (at least in GOW III) that Kratos tries to reason with at this point in his life. Like he defended himself against accusations from Cronos but he never tried to talk him down and he never tried to reason with the other Olympians (even Athena in II). I think that really speaks to the respect Kratos had for Herc (at the very least for their shared circumstances) and it kinda makes me wish we saw them interact more before this.

@@ItsButterBean1020 given the bad blood with Cronos, he likely wasn't in the mood for talk; Kratos did offer to help Helios in exchange to learn where the flame of Olympus was. Unfortunately, Helios chose not to be helpful and Kratos decided to rip his head off in a most brutal fashion. There also was Hermes, in which Kratos told him he didn't feel like dealing with him, but at it was shown Hermes continued to be a most annoying asshole towards him and Kratos decided to chop his legs off.

The fact that they got Kevin Sorbo to voice Hercules, still blows my mind to this day. He starred as Hercules in the TV show "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys" which I used to watch as a kid. They got Hercules to play Hercules, such a nice touch that a lot of people probably slept on, and testament to how they went all out on this game. It's so incredible.

Fun fact: Hercules is voice by Kevin Sorbo. The man played Hercules in his own serie and the crossovers wirt Xena in the 90's series and movies. A nice touch if you ask me.

Gotta love the fact that he mentions the Nemean Lion, yet he doesn't wear it's skin, which he did in the myth because it was impenetrable, nor he uses his poison arrows which are very potent and could kill Kratos in one hit. Also a wise man once said "IT'S HERACLES, NOT HERCULUES"

THAT WAS AMAZING!!!!! A 3 phase fight, i was really curious about how it would look and it didn't dissappoint. Things really got slow at the end of the second phase (guess you were tired of dying) but fortunately ramped up again at the end. It's crazy that Hercules seems more dangerous without weapon, he was like a Hulk that moved like a Wrestler and had a bit of mma, the realism on his moves were a joy to watch and i really like how his strength display became bigger and bigger (makes you question how it differs so much from actual gameplay).

Them Claws of Hades will be my favorite gow weapon because of the sound effects

I love how once Kratos gets the Cestus, it switches to his theme to symbolize he's now firmly in the driver seat and Hurc's time is very rapidly running out.

The irony is that Hercules’ labors were meant to temper his brute strength with an equal measure of discipline and wisdom. And since he stood against Kratos… well I guess it didn’t work so well.

I've noticed that in the remasters, they changed some details. I've also heard rumors that there's already been some discussion about redoing the first trilogy entirely. As much as I love this scene, this Boss Fight & this part of the game, I hope that the next time around, it's done a bit differently. If you know the original Legend of Hercules (Herakles, as he's actually called), you know that he was screwed just as hard by the Gods as Kratos was, arguably even more. Hera dedicated her entire existence to f**king up his life, & did an absolute number on him. Many of the things the Gods did to Kratos in these games, they actually did to Hercules in the real Mythology. In fact there are such strong similarities to their two stories that by the end of the second Game I was actually convinced that this series would end with a plot twist reveal that Kratos WAS Hercules or something like that. All that being said, what I personally would have done with this scene is surprise the player by NOT making Kratos fight him. When Kratos says "This is not between us Hercules", Hercules would look back at Hera, look over all the scars covering his body, look down at his own hands, think for a second, & then be like "you know what Kratos? You're right. It's not" & then literally just walk on by & leave Kratos be

I came back to one of my favorite boss fights after finishing god of war ragnarok just to compare and contrast kratos old self to his current self and the length this man has grown is astounding of course he’s older but just seeing his muscle size vs the current one his combat style vs his current even they way he talks to a point is different hands down one of my favorite games
