@@TyrannosaurusCHEX I think reason for that would be that Hermes was nothing without his feet. Even in the mythology he never had superhuman strength or anything like that. He was the god of information and messages so he was just fast due to his legs (in the game due to the boots)

So I had a "duh" moment. Kratos tells Atreus about the tortoise and the hare and the way he explains the story it was whatever until after watching this I realized...was he referring to this bout with Hermes? Kratos being the "tortoise" he was steady and disciplined while Hermes the "rabbit" was sure of victory and foolish. The tortoise wins as we see clearly here lol.

It's a good observation- the real tortoise and the hare story is a race where the hare stops for a sleep half way, confident in victory, and the tortoise overtakes him. I assumed at the time kratos left out all the details because such things seemed superfluous to him but in reality he may well have been alluding to this fight without wanting Atreus to know his violent past.

I feel like people constantly miss the point of this bossfight Hermes runs away, however, he is not a coward, he is toying with Kratos. After all, like the other Olympus gods, he has a ego to protect and a hubris to fullfill. He knows he can not fight Kratos, so he plays around, this in turn actually leads to possible ways Kratos gets Game Over'd by having to deal with the environment. Listen to Hermes dialogue: "Isn't this fun?" "You amuse me, spartan, let's *play* a little longer." "Keep up, Kratos!" Hermes does not take Kratos seriously at all.. Not to mention how he constantly stops to taunt Kratos, posing in all sorts of different manners to annoy the Ghost of Sparta. Hermes did not prepare himself for this "battle", he did not bring any weapons, the enemies and traps set around seem to be more related to outside problems than Hermes. Unlike the other Gods of Olympus, He doesn't treat this "battle" like a fight, he treats it like a game. Even when tired and cornered, he could just jump off the edge and continue to run away, but he does not. Take a listen to some of his cornered dialogue: "You won't catch me!" "I am still quick enough for you!" "Unfair, Kratos! No hitting!" This does not sound like someone who is fighting to the death does it?

If Hermes was actually saw Kratos as a proper opponent, and did not just think of him as a mortal unable to catch up to him, i bet their fight would've lasted longer. However, Kratos would've probably killed Hermes anyways, since Hermes needs to die so Kratos can get his boots for the wallrunning mechanic, to make the story more impactful in the end, et cetera..

@@Nemenis he’s not a joke but the corruption that got to herems was literally laziness So it really harmed him but Kratos would’ve destroyed him anyway so it doesn’t matter

Hermes: you may have defeated me but in the end you'll only betray yourself. Then kratos chopped off one legs. Hermes screams in pain as he's bleeding out to death " ahhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!! Leave me alone!!!! Go away!!!!" Then kratos grabbed and cut off his other leg and died. After all that mocking kratos for being a fallen got and he ends up being brutally killed by his hands.

Both. A lot of weapons/artifacts are powerful, but they aren't the source of the gods power

Hermes is naturally fast, that's his divine ability, but with the shoes(wich were made Hephaestus btw) he can become even faster than that

What's funny is, Hermes isn't fast by himself, it's just his shoes that make him fast! Edit: Dang, Kratos really stole Hermes drip!
