Imagine if Atreus actually died at the hands of Thor in this scene, but the boy was able to teleport the mask to the world tree before he died. Kratos and Mimir would have seen the mask fall and find blood on it, taking it as a sign that Atreus was dead. Kratos would go ballistic; the Ghost of Sparta would be unleashed, and he would do everything necessary to start Ragnarok. Odin catches wind that Kratos is about to get things popping off, so he sends Thor to kill Kratos. Kratos and Thor have a destructive battle unlike anything we have ever seen; their battle breaks through the barriers between realms, scarring each one the same way Kratos' fight with Baldur made canyons. In the end, Kratos goes ballistic and kills Thor by smashing him with his own hammer. He shouts to the heavens with Mjolnir raised "ODIN! YOU SEND YOUR KIN AGAINST ME, BUT ALL FALL! COME DOWN HERE AND FACE ME, YOU COWARD!" Mimir and all of the others witness how unhinged and dangerous Kratos is, so they all start to run away from him; he has a small snap back to reality and recognizes that the monster is coming out, so he quickly bottles it up and pleads to this friends to come back, but none of them do. He kneels down over Thor's shattered corpse and feels deep sorrow within as he is ashamed for going back to his old ways. Footsteps in the snow are heard as Kratos continues to kneel with his head down in sadness; he doesn't car if it is friend or foe, he just wishes his son was alive. We see Atreus' hand pat Kratos on the shoulder. "You did it father. You killed Thor." Kratos looks up to see his son standing there with bewildered amusement on his face. He never died from Thor; he used his powers of illusion and transformation to convince everyone in Niflheim that he died, and he used those same powers to trick Kratos and the gang. "Atreus... how?" Kratos grabs his son by the shoulders but has no idea what to say. "Father listen... all those years of you sending me out hunting... I've been practicing my magic. With both Greek god and Giant blood, I'm capable of all kinds of things. While you slept, I left illusions of myself in my bed so you'd never know, but I went into Tyr's temple many times and read just about everything there was about you; how you killed the old god of war, all the other gods, and destroyed Olympus." Kratos releases his grip from his son, anger stewing within. "Get to the point, boy." "You would never tell me how dangerous you really were, so I figured it out myself. I also understood that nothing could make you as angry as when you're afraid for my life! This was the only way to get you to kill Thor after all he did to the Gia-" "HOW DARE YOU TRICK ME LIKE THIS! EVERYONE IN GREECE DID THE SAME; YOU THINK IT WISE TO FOLLOW IN THEIR FOOTSTEPS? FOLLOW IN **MY** FOOTSTEPS?!" Kratos suddenly stops shouting; his anger instantly switched to sadness as he realizes his son is on a path of vengeance just like he was many years ago in Greece. He's heartbroken that his own son would manipulate him like this. "I... I should have taken you out of these lands after we spread your mother's ashes... I was a fool to think you could live well here..." Kratos starts to walk away form his son; he looks into the sky with tears in his eyes and a crack in his voice. "I failed you... Faye... I failed to stop our son from becoming a monster like me." Kratos starts walking away; Atreus screams for him to come back. "You got YOUR vengeance all those years ago, now what about mine? What about mother's? Our entire race is dead because of the Aesir, and you're just going to walk away?!" Kratos continues to walk until an incoming snow storm swallows him out of sight; he needs time away from his son to get his head clear, and to avoid being manipulated again. Atreus breaks down crying next to Thor's smashed body; Kratos left Mjolnir there, so Atreus starts kicking at it in his own frustration and rage. Odin appears with his Ravens and looks at Atreus in pity. The boy stops crying for a moment and tries to pick up the hammer, which he successfully does, summoning a deep strength that he inherited from his father. "Ah calm down Loki. That's mighty impressive, you tricking your dad into killing Thor. You know, I could use a man of your talent in my court, even if you don't have the mask." Atreus thinks to himself and how he can trick Odin and destroy Asgard from the inside through the years, but Odin is aware of Atreus and his plot. He just plans on using the kid as bait to get the mask from Kratos. Atreus agrees and is teleported away with Odin by raven. Brok was watching the whole conversation. He teleports to Kratos and finds him preparing a ship that could carry him and Atreus away from the Norse lands and to parts unknown. Brok tells Kratos about Atreus willingly going with Odin to Asgard. "Brok, do you know of any way at all to get into Asgard? An secrets only a dwarf would know?" "No." "Then... the only way in... is Ragnarok." Screen goes black. Text pops up and says "THE END BEGINS" signifying that this game is over and a part three is on the way.

@@grandpakfcchickenbucket507 This is what I was really hoping they would go for if they made a trilogy. Loki needs to spend time in Asgard to match the mythology, as well as many other things. Kratos needs to learn that sometimes war is necessary for the betterment of many others. In Greece, he fought for revenge. In Viking lands, he would fight for love and freedom. He is the God of War whether he likes it or not, but he needs to learn that sometimes war really is the only way. But when I learned about a year ago that the Viking area was only getting two games, my expectations were entirely shattered. I personally did not like Ragnarok because many parts of the story felt very rushed and many parts were dragged for much too long. Don't even get me started on how the game play annoyed me in this one compared to every other God of War game. I feel like 2018 had some really good setup for things like what I typed above, but Ragnarok gave us a story that was very vanilla and safe, like it was a movie that the whole family could enjoy.

Yeah, Sif was making a lot of double standards throughout. She blames Thor for ruining her relationship with her daughter when she is thf one refusing to support her. She gives Atreus the finger when he tries to help her understand what she's doing to her relationship. She does nothing to try and improve her relationship with her family, yet she goes and blames other people for her problems.

It is admittedly a little weird what Sif is trying to do here. It's clear when she's talking to Thor, she's referring to *Odin*, not Atreus... but not only does she not really do anything when Thor points his aggression at Atreus, but then what was her goal anyway in trying to arrest Atreus here? I wish we could've possibly seen her more during the post game and get some answers as to what was going on in her head here because it's all just a bit confusing to me. Sure, we could blow it off as simply resentment due to Magni and Modi's deaths, but then that resentment is seemingly gone later

At this point in the story, Sif clearly hates Atreus. Let's not forget, Atreus was the one who stabbed Modi to death in the end. All she sees when she looks at him is the murderer of her son.

Things that I imagine would happen if Thor actually did kill Atreus: 1) Upon hearing of Atreus getting killed, Kratos screaming so loudly that it can be heard in all 9 realms and going into a permanent state of Spartan Rage. 2) Kratos going to Asgard and destroying the great wall. 3) Kratos absolutely massacring every single person who's even remotely related to Thor including ripping Thrud's head off right in front of Thor. 4) Kratos crushing Mjolnir with his bare hands. 5) Kratos killing himself after he's done with Asgard because he has absolutely nothing left to live for.

i love how so many people are saying odin told thor to stand down and the NOOOO was cause he feared he would ged OG god of war kratos, when the actaul reason is... spoilers: later on its revealed that only loki/atreus is the one who can use the mask to look into the tear and get odin his precious "answers". if thor had killed loki, the mask and rift would have become useless, and all of odins work would have been for NOTHING

Everyone here acting like Atreus dying would have been the end of the gods. Need I remind you that Kratos' first fight with a god in this game resulted in him getting his skull caved in and only surviving because his opponent willed it? Not all gods are made equal, and if you say he was holding back, so was Thor. But it would have been something to see, regardless of how it goes down.

Why is the voice acting in this game so "off"? They should sound Scandinavian, instead Sif, Atreus, etc all just sound like modern day Americans. It's so disconcerting in every scene.

Because the game was developed and everything was recorded in southern California. Also: GoW has a primarily english speaking audience; there are only so many Scandinavian actors that are comfortable performing in multiple languages.
