Either there's a deleted scene where Ares explained he does not believe a mortal can handle the power from that box or maybe because at that size looking for a box a size of a sugar cube on the ground in the middle of the night is too uncomfortable for him.

He could’ve blamed it on Athena then the story would’ve been different but keep in mind, ares saw Kratos as himself but mortal and as seen on GoW2 when Atreus tells Kratos the city they were fighting in, Sparta was gonna win the battle, I’m sure Kratos only saw the fight so maybe ares only paid attention to the action and only helped if anyone calls upon his name so ya idk

It was to rid him of any humanity to become the ultimate spartan. No emotions tethering him down to anyone/anything. Just a straight killer.

When you think about it, this is a great ending to the first GOW trilogy (Ascension, Chains of Olympus, GOW1).

I'm glad this game evaded me in my youth when it came out. Playing it now at 30 and it is one of the best games I've ever played. Great fighting system and story is deeper than I knew. See why it was so praised finally

I’m pretty sure Kratos only ever felt ever-living pride at the term, but I’ve always laughed at *_EVERYONE_* and their mother who ever said “Spartan” to him like it was an insult.

After playing the new game Ragnarok , it is so amazing to see how much Kratos's character has changed! It is so rare for a video game character to experience even a little character growth, yet, the Kratoes in the most current games is so far removed from this Young, brash, arrogant, angry, version of Kratos that someone new to the God of War franchise would think these are two completely separate people.

@@jeremyallen5974 "Overrated" as if Kratos and God of War in general isn't wanked to high heaven nowadays; say anything remotely negative about 'em and the fanboys immediately jump on you. Dante spouts wisecracks because he knows he's stronger, so he likes to have fun and be flashy with the fight, experimenting with weapons and taunting the opponent and all that. Kratos goes all in on his fights and doesn't spend any time on banter, his style is a lot grittier by nature.

Am i the only one thankful that the people who built that sword bridge somehow had 'a god picking it up and using it as a sword' in mind!

I don't think they can. That's the point. So much of the gods legacy and granduer is lies and exaggeration, just like politicians and celebrities. Thats why they freak put when Ares die. It showed mankind how fallible and vulnerable they truly were.

One thing that I can't seem to understand is, why was Ares standing there without moving a muscle as Kratos used Zeus' power to break the chain binding Pandora's box, jumping down from the cliff and opening the box right in front of his eyes...

In the novel he throws the bolt and then jumps down to the box before it even strikes the chain, so he's waiting for it.

surprised this game still holds up. recently replayed my ps2 library i found in my closet (that being god of war 1 and 2, shadow of the colossus, ratchet and clack and sly cooper) and i gotta be honest this one is easily the best. i think it shares the spot with shadow of the colossus as the best ps2 game of all time.

What is amazing is that ares pulled off a feat like mundus with dante, like damn, a universe itself just to mess with kratos and cherry on top is his family, dying again to the hands of his multiple selves and even in his giant form, he is still weak against ares.

@@alexthievery7834 There are a lot of characters that can resist Genjutsu though, hell Kratos resisted shit like that in Chains of Olympus which was before this, but what Ares did wasn't even Genjutsu, it was real we see him teleport Kratos away in GoW 2 when we fight one of the Fates. Also, why would you be sad Ares died? He was worse than Kratos at this point, he did all this evil shit before Kratos even opened Pandora's box, he was just a piece of shit.

@@alexthievery7834 Kratos was considered extremely strong for a Demi god though, same as Herc, and Kratos got the strongest powerup in the series, and already had multiple powers from other Gods, it's not that absurd compared to a lot of other ways Gods usually get beaten. Take Percy beating Ares as a kid for example, even though Ares couldn't use his full power and was mostly messing around, failing to kill a kid who you are thousands of years older than and that just started training is extremely silly. There are other instances of things like this happening in the series and others of course, but I wanted to use Greek Gods as an example again. Also, why would they have superior intellect by default? Athena probably would, but we are shown that Kratos is quite smart and Athena herself even says as such in the novels. Kratos being really strong and being able to beat very powerful beings isn't inherently plot armor, well technically everything is plot armor, since every character in fiction has it, but a character beating an opponent that is more powerful than themself isn't egregious plot armor automatically.

This KRATOS WAS THE BEST 🔥

@@jeremyallen5974 The God of War was going to attack Olympus. Had Ares been allowed to live, he would have done it. But when Kratos killed Ares, he became God of War and did it himself. You can’t escape fate.

Idk why but I just love the way Ares said "ZOOS!"

The final fight with Ares is still one of my favorite boss fights in the entire series!

This was epic!!!! I enjoyed this game!!!

There should be a video game series that has you obtain powers, abilities, skills and weaponry within the first game, and then you start off the NEXT one with whatever it was you obtained, as you find EVEN MORE. Idk if that’s even possible, though…is it?

Fable 3 had it to where your parents gender was determined by who you played as in the previous game so I would think so. ..and that’s an older tech.

How it took me this long to realize Trunks did the same thing, using the power of hope to destroy Zamasu, I’ll never know. Blue energy, big sword, a stabbing death, and everything.
