It's the correct decision. Funny how half of the Osijek players also stop playing because they think the whistle has been blown, but then when the referee disallows the goal they are complaining about it.

@@warumdach9707if my assumption is wrong then my bad, but are you saying they should know the play is still going on? If so, then that would be completely unreasonable. They say "play to the whistle". They did exactly that, they played to the whistle. Unless you are watching the referee, you would have hardly any indication that it wasn't the referee.

@@warumdach9707 Agree with Micah. The 'rule' is "play to the whistle". They heard an obvious whistle and stopped playing... completely correct to disallow the goal. If the goal stood, fans would be whistling all the time. Whistle when a player is 1-on-1 with the keeper because someone will stop and the goal won't count. Football would stop functioning. Surely you can see this?

The goal was disallowed under Law 5 of the Laws of the Game which states: (The referee) stops, suspends or abandons the match for any offences or because of outside interference e.g. if: • a spectator blows a whistle which interferes with play - play is stopped and restarted with a dropped ball

@@Gabrielnfs The reality is that it's impossible to write rules for anything that completely bar the ability for bad faith actors to take advantage. Creating perfect rule sets would inherently render them so long and arcane that they would become impossible to apply effectively and with transparency.* It's better to have relatively simple rules that are explicitly for achieving clear goals, and to use that clarity to reduce the number of anti-social actors rather than try and create a sprawling system that people feel frustrated just trying to understand, never-mind applying consistently. The problem is that people don't trust refs (for some good reasons and many more terrible ones), so they insist on creating discretion-less rules like the one above, and rigidity is a vulnerability. *This is even true for systems as important as governments, which have generally trended towards having vague/broad guidelines with a handful of hard and fast rules instead of super intricate rule sets (although there is still plenty of that, and they're largely loathed for good reason.)

If a spectator blows a whistle and the referee considers the whistle interfered with play (e.g. a player picks up the ball with his hands, assuming that play has been stopped), the referee must stop the match and restart the play with a dropped ball from the position of the ball when play was stopped, unless play was stopped inside the goal area, in which case the referee drops the ball on the goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the ball was located when play was stopped. Pretty simple directly from the English FA and I can’t imagine the rules being different for when that happens in Croatia

This raises an interesting quandry: although everyone (including, presumably, the referee) heard the phantom whistle the ref did NOT stop play immediately. Play continued, the ball is still live and a goal was scored, therefore it should count. The moral decision is to disallow the goal, but is it correct under the present laws?
