GIMME FUEL GIMME FIRE - Wiring Dual Tank LS Swap Fuel System + FIRST START - UTX

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today at Ugly Truck, we're wiring up the dual fuel pumps and sending units on this 1986 C10 6.0 LS swap through the OEM donor fuse panel. We've had a lot of questions about wiring the fuel system, so we go over the switch, switch valve, and all the details. We also wire the PCM power ignition and starting circuits, and talk about the neutral safety switch.

    This is the best solution for C10’s with dual tanks I have seen. The 87 fuel selector is the best option for an LS swap and the use of relays with your diagrams is awesome. Great video I’m still working on my 86 but have been sidetracked and the wife wants me to sell it. Lol. When you guys started the truck that is a great feeling I want to see more excitement from Jerry. Maybe even a happy dance! Great job! That is something to be very proud of!

    Hey UTX, working on my grandfathers 1985 C10 Silverado that was gifted to me after my college graduation. I am actually, as we speak, trying to get all the wiring bugs worked out and get it 100% working. A tool like that would go a long way for me to tackling the current projects I am working on and maybe one day diving into my hopes of an LS swap with this tool and your shared knowledge. Love your videos and information you give to us all. Keep up with the awesome videos and looking forward to the next one!

    you guys are awesome! I am doing my first 1979 square body and using this setup you are showing. 1 Question, I am assuming since the relay will have power with key on it will automatically turn on relay for left pump, so the other wires on left tank on switch will not be used. Is this correct? Thank you much!

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    4 ай бұрын

    Hey Nightshift. The power that goes to the left fuel pump goes from the fuse box, through the original relay to a relay to switch tanks and then to the fuel pump. The relay has a connection at pin 30 and pin 87a on a relay without any power going to the relay. The relay is then given power when the switch is turned into the right hand tank. So correct, the wires that are from the left hand on the actual switch are not used. Hope that makes sense. Jerry

    I take it that valve is spring loaded to return to left take in absence of power as opposed to the 86 valve that operates only when the switch is held in place until the valve is fully moved to the required position? Spoke about switch differences but didn't notice if you mentioned how the valve works differently too.

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    10 ай бұрын

    Hello Derek. Yes, the valve in it's normal position with no power would have a port that would send the return fuel back to that left tank. I believe we have talked about it in the last few fuel pump videos when we are running the lines. Thanks. Jerry

    Most of these fuel pumps also have a check valve in them to maintain some fuel pressure in the lines while sitting. I would suspect the valve that changes your return to one tank or the other. Make sure that valve is working properly. Will be curious to see what you find. Jerry

    Hello Frank. I use a tool that plugs into the oil sending unit fitting. I used it at the end of one of our videos that I will include a link to. Recently did a fuel injected (Pro-flo-4 intake) big block swap in my 86 with dual tanks. I'm also running a Fitech Surge tank. The installer noticed the digital gauges (Intellitronix) are zeroing out now when I attempt to switch tanks. The gauges worked fine with my small block carbureted setup. In your opinion could this be due to needing the 87 selector switch or maybe a power issue?

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    3 ай бұрын

    Hello Aris. It depend on how they wired the system. It would still need the 87 switch and the plastic valve that switched tanks unless they wired and plumbed it different. The surge tank really shouldn't have effected anything to do with the fuel switching or reading unless the wires leading to that switch valve were used in another manner. Jerry

    wen you say pin 87 left pump, is the default power wen starting, wen right pump [87A] tank is empty, how do you activate left pump wen key switch is in RUN position, or does ECM sends power in both RUN n START key positions , if so, does that mean you shud always fill left tank n use right tank as primary n use its fuel first since switch kills right pump n 87A gets powered only wen switch relay gets deactivated by right tank switch, fuel circuit falls back into default mode...? right/correct

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    8 ай бұрын

    Hello Jon. That fuel pump relay has a connection from pin 30 to pin 87 when there is no power going to relay. The 12 volt wire that goes to the fuel pump from the fuse box will go to pin 30, then passed through relay to 87 and then to the fuel pump. When fuel tank switch is turned to right hand tank, power is supplied to relay which turns power from pin 30 to 87a that leads to the right hand pump. Pin 30 and 87 are open at that time, shutting down the left pump. On either tank, when one side is being used. The pump in the tank not being used is not running. Jerry

  • @UglyTruckExperience

    @UglyTruckExperience

    9 ай бұрын

    Hello Joey. That is a great question. I should address that sometime. As an example, you will look at a modern day diagram and see a 2 digit letter number combination that is underlined. That is the connector number. All of the pin numbers to the left of that Connector number are in that connector and they are not underlined. When you run into the next underlined two digit letter number combination, then you are dealing with a different connector. It would be great if they would also mention their connector color, but they use the connector numbers over and over again with different colors so I end up going to the connector that I believe it is and confirming it with the wire colors. They are also not great at mentioning which fuse box you are working with or splice connector locations. I guess we are lucky that we have the info that we do but you really have to double check it. Hello Richard. Take a look at Alldata DIY. It is relatively inexpensive and gives people access to the diagrams we use. Thanks. Jerry and Emily

    did you wire up CHECK ENGINE light [your version] or use dakota dash one? I presume later, obdII plug? doing dakota dash swap video soon? give difficulty rating n cost of parts guesstamate , you said you programed dash, is that right ,? or ECM to acknowledge dash systems? more i watch , more learn more thot on each vehicle system is ECM controlled...less i want to tackle my project...your a great teacher, with FLAIR for detail ...patiently waiting for you guyses next intellectual LS swap video. I ve done my mechanical work on sbc for years, now i have new appetite for LS motor , not so much for ECM part of it, old dog new tricks thing....until next time...adios jerry n m

    Hi Jon! On this truck, the check engine light is in the Dakota Digital dash. We'll have a video on installing that soon. They are a little complicated to install. It's just a matter of opinion. Some people prefer the looks of the Dakota Digital, and they are more accurate, but the stock gauges are easier to hook up. We appreciate you watching, and all your comments! Keep the great questions coming. --Jerry and Emily

    Would it be blasphemy to swap in a LS into my 1964 Dodge 440?

    Yes, but it would be cool! 😆 We keep talking about swapping our 73 Dart. There's a group called LS Swapped Mopars on Facebook that has a lot of good information. Thanks for tuning in, Geebop!
