Damn scary, Chase….I just watched another one of your videos on pants, and I said to myself “I wish you discussed what shirts you wear!”….and WA-LAH! This video. Again, I’m a guy in my last years in my 60s…retired Navy…and cleaning out my closet of everything except BYLT and Western Rise. After two careers in the military and federal law enforcement, I still work hard to stay in shape (in fact, I gave away my daughter wearing the same Navy formal dress blues that I wore in 1994!). I’ll look into SeaDawn for t shirts…though I really like my BYLT tees! Another hit out of the park, Chase…and I’m liking the fact that my closet is starting to look sparse! Take care, amigo…be safe!

Seadon Daymaker shirts are hands down my favorite daily t-shirts. The fact that they're made from recycled/upcycled plastic bottles is a huge plus. Also a big fan of the WesternRise AirLoft jacket. It took some getting used to (pockets are too far back, in my opinion) but it's extremely versatile. I've worn it in 25 degree weather with just a t-shirt on (this morning; + hat, gloves, scarf) and 50 degree weather with just a t-shirt on and I'm comfortable. Very impressed.

Seadon t-shirts are cut WAY tight! The materials are great, but I had to send them back. I don't know where they get there taylors from, but their sizes are really small. In the US, I can fit an XL, but I will order an XXL to fit loosely on me. Knowing Seadon were cut small according to their website, I ordered XXL, which I would have anyhow, but they were very tight and had a hard time getting the Daymaker on at all. The Trailblazer was better, but still not flattering.

I've found myself kind of stuck when it comes t-shirts made from polyester or other non-natural fibers (and clothes in general). Like you said Chase, I like the idea of shirts made from recycled plastic bottles, as it's great repurposing of our plastic waste and saves tons of water that would go into something like cotton production for example. But then I wonder about the micro-plastics issue. It seems like we're washing away a huge mount of micro-plastic fibers from our clothes every time we wash straight into the water system and I'm not sure if that's able to be removed before it's out in the world. And that makes me question what is best, you know? How does one weigh the pros and cons of water consumption vs micro-plastic production. And do bamboo/hemp/merino fiber clothing potentially offer any solutions? I personally haven't a clue and that's where I find myself stuck and not sure what to buy but it seems hard to find information on comparisons of the full impact of different fabric materials. If you Chase, or anyone has some good information to share, I'd love to hear! And as always thanks for your videos Chase!

Hey Jeff, happy to offer my own perspective on this and explain a little bit about how we position ourselves as an outdoor lifestyle brand that offers ‘sustainable’ goods, even though there's really no such thing as a 'sustainable' clothing brand, or any brand that produces products for that matter. This is the first thing we don’t shy away from (Greenwashing is another topic of its own which we can hopefully discuss over a beer one day). We know we are making stuff as a company and this cannot ever be considered as sustainable. We also cannot control how people consume, and we have to respect this. We are not going to be like ‘you must be eco-friendly’, ‘you must recycle’ etc… We will never force anyone to do anything. I think this is counter productive. What we can offer is a safe place for people to buy high-quality products that are responsibly made from the ground up- from sourcing the most sustainable alternative materials, to partnering with vetted factories that pay their workers fairly. To see more details, feel free to check out our sustainability page: seadon.co/pages/sustainability. We are pretty proud of our packaging system. =) In terms of synthetics vs natural materials - natural materials would always be a more sustainable alternative than synthetics, but in terms of performance, synthetics are still on top. Material innovation has come a long way and we are seeing some exciting developments with biodegradable synthetics. The next stage is demand which will drive cost down for everyone. So in a way, as cliche as it may sound, the reality is we need more people to buy ‘sustainable’ stuff in order to give material companies the reason to invest in bringing these technology and materials to market. Now I am not trying to say ‘buy from us and the planet will be saved’. We all have to do our little part and for you to bring this discussion to the table, is actually the most important first step - just be more conscious and tread lightly. If natural materials are good enough for your lifestyle, then I would recommend sticking to it and look for companies who source these materials responsibly. If you need some recommendations, let me know! Happy to help. -Carson

I was led to believe that in an ideal world Chase already spoke out about this issue in the video above and didn’t shy away from being honest and authentic about it. Kinda like Chase’s earlier bag videos, when brand publicity and promotional videos were a distant wish. Understandably, the mind doesn’t want to let down the friends and well wishers who’ve acknowledged his personality and supplied the pile of clothes we see here. Your honest comment here, Jeff, is the missing link of this upload. Thank You for noticing the elephant in the room. All is well now. My heart goes out to all a y’all "Jeffs" and "Chases" out there! May we never have to wear a micro-plastic bottle again!

My take: I save money. These things don’t break down the same way as cheaper, less eco conscious, less conscious wage fast fashion. Western rise evolution pant and lens shoes are great examples of that. But that’s just my take. My friend Jae got me into thinking longer term about clothing spends like this (partly as he was talking himself into buying something from arcteryx)

With the exception of swimming trunks that need to dry quickly, every other piece of clothing directly touching the skin (as advertised by Chase, reluctantly) will always feel better, softer, warmer, cooler and overall more comfortable if made from natural fabrics. Every single time. Good luck trying to find some without added synthetics. I don’t buy this glorified plastic bottle bs. And my skin doesn’t lie… …for digits.

Hey Curt, if you use the link provided in the video description, you'll get 35% OFF on the tees. Our signature Merino Wool + Tencel tees are made from premium fabrics hence the more premium prices. We also pay our workers fairly and we donate part of the proceeds to non-profits. A good intro to trying our fabrics will be the Daymaker tee, which is going for $26 per tee if you use the link provided by Chase. If you don't think our fabrics are good enough, just send them back (we offer a no risk return policy). It's a win-win! Have a good one!
