Layers FTW: as a total stinge, spend the money on good layers. It’s worth it. Wool base layers, down puffy, waterproof/wind proof shell. Wool socks. And damn good shoes. Spend the money, do it once and your set for years.

Olicamp XTS pot is the way to go. Light weight and holds a fuel canister and camp stove. Heat exchanger saves fuel and is efficient. silicone lid that you can drink out of. 1 liter is big enough to boil drinking water.

Perfect timing, going on the annual "Man weekend" retreat this weekend. I used the waterproof lems Boulder boot to hike the Incan trail this summer and even though I felt every rock and boulder they were surprisingly comfy and painless. I'll be using them for every hike and camp moving forward. I used mole skin for the one blister I had, worked flawlessly. Nothing better than camp food, the stars and some fungi I mean fun guys to enjoy the outdoors with.

I had the exact same Pategonia jacket and I took it back to Pategonia and they gave me a brand new jacket. Pretty happy about that!

Awesome video, love outdoor gear optimization. Recommendation for camp shoes that no one ever talks about: leather moccasins (native american style, preferably DIY). They will form fit to your foot, soft, lightweight, padded, packable. Very easy to make.

FOOT LOVE! Boots can make or break a trip. Love it. Camp shoes are vital. For most peeps, please take a year+ to work up to barefoot style boots!! Dayhiking and backpacking are very different things and most lightweight boots will kill your trip and are not very supportive for heavier loads. Wearing in boots is essential. And add a blister first aid kit to everyones list of must haves. molekskin, compeed, tincture of bensoin (in 15ml nalgene) + qtips

Camp shoe recommendation: Skinners. They're a super minimal barefoot shoe/sock. I've used them as a camo shoe and even done some strenuous hiking in them.

Chase, you need to try Freefly apparel. Made from bamboo. Superrr soft, lightweight, sun protection. Kind of a beachy vibe but it's incredible!

Man, you held up those boots and I just started shaking my head. More power to you that they worked for you but I could never even attempt them. Having just spent 3 weeks hiking the Swiss Alps, I concur tremendously that taking a puffy and a rain jacket is the only way to go. funny thing is I never needed the puffy, but would take it again. One never knows. One question, how much did your pack weigh? And I have to ask, what didn't you use that you took, that is just as important to share.

Interesting to hear the Vivos not holding up, its disappointing for such an expensive shoe. I have had the same experience unfortunately, the durability just isnt there. Boulder Boots for the win. Thanks Chase.

I love my Lem’s Boulders, but why not Altra Lone Peaks? Zero drop and wide toe box. I realize they’re not really barefoot shoes, but they’re minimal.

13:15 Vivo is the one brand where I've consistently heard how fast their shoes fall apart. But brand new shoes dying in under a week must be some kind of record...

To prevent the lining peeling from your next rain jacket, make sure you wash at beginning and end of every season! Skin oils and salt will break down the materials over time! Also try to wash with specific gear detergent and DWR refinishing spray/wash. You’re the best!

Did you cover which bag you took on the trip somewhere in the video and I missed it? That looked like the Peak Design travel backpack at the beginning there - wouldn't have been my first guess for an outdoor trip, but hey I'm sure it's capable. Was that the vessel of choice?

Thorough video... man. My TWO cents: I would have brought another pair of sox so you could wash one. They DID look crusty. Those boots didn't seem ideal for fording. Not that I know a better pair. And a favor: Nix the background music please please please. It's distracting and your videos don't need it. Anyway, keep being awesome!
