GE Monogram Refrigerator Not Cooling? { GE Refrigerator Inverter Board Test }

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

GE Refrigerator Not Cooling? Video Offers GE Refrigerator Inverter Board Test & GE inverter board replacement. In this video we were working on a GE Monogram refrigerator not cooling which turned out to be the GE compressor inverter control board that was shorted. The GE Monogram refrigerator inverter is the same inverter you would use on any GE refrigerator; this new inverter comes with two extra wires that convert to any GE fridge.

Just finished the inverter replacement. It is REALLY easy to do. The only thing I was confused about was at 0:52 where he says, "so let's unplug the unit". I wasn't sure where he was disconnecting power from. The instructions on my replacement inverter did not mention that main power should be disconnected. So I just disconnected power, signal and ground to the inverter, and proceeded with the replacement. I probably should have switched off the fridge at the breaker, but I didn't bother. The fridge is working fine now. Thank you for this video!

Thank you so much for the video! I was able to diagnose and replace my dead inverter board (killed by a surge from a power outage). It was so simple and I was able to get it done in less than 20 minutes.

What is the model number of the inverter you replaced? Did you get it from eBay?

Great video. Thanks! Would there be other indications if it was a refrigerant issue? Would the control panel still send signal to inverter?

Hi, If your inverter is getting a signal but not turning on it's your inverter. I would check windings on the compressor however but I had one GE compressor go bad in the last 20 years. If you have a refrigerant issue it would be cooling a little but not fully. Even if the unit had a refrigerant leak the compressor would still hum and be warm due to having air into the system. Take Care.

Thanks for the additional info. I ordered the inverter yesterday after confirming 5.5V signal to inverter, 120 V from power supply, 6.9 ohms between windings, and no winding shorts to shell. I'll report back on my success.

Just ran through it. Easy check. All seams well though. 6.6v signal, winding are all 6.9, no short in compressor. Powered up i can tell the compressor is running and each pin to the running compressor is reading 90ish volts to chassis ground. Doesn't make cold air though. Could it still be the inverter? The compressor does seem very quiet when running. Condenser fan is running too.

Hello! From your description of the compressor being operational, it seems that your inverter and compressor are functioning correctly. However, the issue might be a refrigerant leak, as indicated by the compressor running but not at high speed, suggesting there's nothing to circulate through the system. Before spending any money, I recommend having a qualified technician inspect the system to confirm the problem. If you weren't receiving the correct DC voltage to the inverter, my advice would be to replace the MPC. Conversely, if the correct voltage is reaching the inverter but the compressor isn't activating, then replacing the inverter would be the way to go. In your situation, since the compressor is running, it points towards a different issue. Hope this clarification is helpful!

Great info...I got exact same GE model as your video. I followed your instructions and saw my control board output 5.13DCV. I bought a used board but also showed 5.10DCV. The 3 ways compressor showed 10.9 instead of 6.9 Ohm on your video. Is this Ohm reading normal for GE Monogram? Should I buy a new inverter? Thanks... Tiger

If your inverter is receiving 5-6 DC volts from the Main MPC and 120 AC volts from the main power supply to inverter, and the compressor has been tested and is functioning correctly, then the remaining component that could be causing the issue is the inverter. I trust this information is helpful, and I'd appreciate if you could update me on your situation! Best Regards!

Hi again. I bought a use Inverter. The sales said it is in working condition! Recap: Replaced a used control board measure output 5.10DCV. Replaced a used Inverter bought on Ebay which seller said it is in working condition. Power connector showed 120V Resul of Compressor runned in 30 minutes: Internal degree is down from 76F t 74F Compressor hot to touch. It measures temperature by heat gun showed 124F. Hi pressure 7:58 Return freon copper line hot. Low pressure copper line not Cold. Now I don't know why refrigerator not working? If you ok that control board measure 5.10 instead of5.6DCV to 6.4DCV the only reason is used Inverter not working. Please advise

My problem with a GE Monogram 42" built-in is the freezer started getting warmer, then the cooling went out totally in the frig and freezer. When I check the voltage that is going to the inverter, (at 0:29 seconds into this video), using the volt meter you recommended, I'm getting a reading of 11.5 to 12.2 volts DC. What does this mean? Is the motherboard bad? What do I do next?

Hi there! I've noted that your inverter is registering between 11.5 and 12.2 DC volts. When connected, I typically get a reading of 4.5 to 6 DC volts. Did you take this measurement while it was still attached, as I did in the video, or did you disconnect before testing? This could explain why you're seeing a 12 DC volt reading. If you still get 12 DC volts even after disconnecting, it suggests that your main control is effectively delivering power to the inverter, which in turn should start the compressor. Make sure you examine the compressor windings as I showed in the video. If everything there seems fine, your inverter might be the issue. I hope this explanation is helpful to you!"

I disconnected the quick connect like you did at the very beginning of the video, the 12 volt measurement I'm getting is from I guess the main control board like you say in the video, but you get 5.5 to 6. Is this a problem? It's twice your measurement. I have not yet disconnected the inverter board from the condenser yet to measure the ohms of it. I'm at work now but will do when I get home.

Okay, last night I removed old inverter and measured across all 3 points of contact of the condenser, they all measured at 6.8 ohms. I replaced the inverter. Checked this morning and still NO cooling in frig or freezer. What do I try now? BTW, when the GE repair tech came out he said we needed to replace refrigerator Vcc3 condenser k, refrigerator suction tube cap, evap asm w/ heater, R134 drier, refrigerator icing repair kit, heater def, thermostat cutoff, plus labor for him and an assistant, for a total quote of $3,381. Help! What do I try now?

Yes, I think that if you measure the DC voltage while the wire is connected, you should see around 11 DC volts. However, if you disconnect it and then check, the reading will likely be about 5.5 DC volts. Hope this information is useful!

  • @onlineappliancetech

If the unit remains unresponsive even after you've replaced the inverter, the problem could lie either with your compressor or the main power control. It could be that the main power control isn't delivering the necessary DC voltage to activate the inverter and consequently start the compressor. To assist you in testing the compressor and the output power to the Main Power Control (MPC), I've created a tutorial which you can find among my video content.

I think you might have an issue with (stuck open) flap door that controls the air between the freezer and climate control drawer. when that happened to me, refrigerator got so cold, water dispense line got frozen and busted. the gear that moves the flap door often get stripped. I had to replace that twice in 18 years of ownership.
