Garrett Ace 400 Review and Depth Test

Ойын-сауық

Just got my hands on the Ace 400, and I love the updates that have been made! The Ace series has always been a solid performer, and this takes it to a new level with the Iron Audio, Target ID, as well as the other features. The 10khz frequency seems to really hit well on the whole range of targets. Good job Garrett :)

    though I had some problem with sea water It also kzread.infoUgkxa-FNYUOM93a388gi9a4brtSCEVmrHgJH land for finding any things very easily. (thought it would work as normal due to it being water proof within certain parts of the detector), on dry land and sand worked well. My first one, so still have lots to learn

    Thank you for your video! I was given the Ace 400 by my husband for Christmas. I did a lot of research online and youtube videos like this one to pick what I wanted. I got the bundle with the pointer 2 which I love using and you can use it up to 10 feet under water. We have just started detecting due to the weather where we live. No big finds yet but so far...lots of bottle caps, bottle tabs, very thin wires which I keep hearing it doesn't do but yes it does, foil bits even 8 inches down which we were very surprised by, coins and some iron pieces. We will take it to a well used beach and area soon...right now I am getting comfortable with it and waiting for a little better weather. Pouring rain and snow between....well have to play with it on the days that work. Great fun with the grandson!

    Thanks for the very good video on the Ace 400. I just purchased it today. The only experience I have with a detector is a Radio Shack model I used back in the early 90's. So far, I really like the way it works. This video will save me a ton of time trying to learn how to use it.

    Thank you 🙏 for this in depth test. I know it’s an old video, but I just picked up a good used Ace 400 from Metal Detecting Stuff out of TX for $160 plus free shipping. I’m still learning it. But from this review it seems I got a MD I can grow with for awhile. I started with a used BH Tracker IV that I got like new in box with headphones, manual, etc for $40. I’ve been happy with it and will keep it for a backup. New subscriber here. Dave in PA.

    There you go. Now I have ordered an ACE 400i. My 250 will be my backup detector. It is possible that many find it strange (and perhaps stupid) that I "only" upgrade to a 400i from a 250. Well ... what can I say ... my 250 has shown that ACE models are really good detectors for a fairly small amount of money. And when I saw this video, I realized that this is just all I need. For a very attractive price. The new detector should come within two weeks. No rush, though, here in Sweden (above the Arctic Circle), it will take a month before the snow is gone. Thanks for a great video. It helped me a lot!

    +DetectingtheBurgh Thanks for watching Keith! I took it out today and found a 1941 mercury dime and a 1937 buffalo in a spot that is jammed full of trash. I really couldn't believe how fast this machine is, and the iron audio is a huge help with those old rusted bottle caps. I'm pleasantly surprised. This machine has gone past my expectations, it's really a very good detector.

    Worth upgrading to this from the Euroace ? I have a makro racer and its broken. Not finding really shallow silver coins on any settings (we did a lot of tests) My plan was to use my euroace until i could afford the Xp deus, but now im considering just getting the Ace 400i and call it quits. Saving a lot of cash i could spend on something else.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter

    @CarolinaCoinHunter

    The 400 would has a faster recovery speed than the older Ace series machines, and it seems to be deeper in my testing. That along with the iron audio and higher frequency should make it a worth while unit. The Deus is sweet, but expensive. I haven't tried one yet myself, but the Ace is a good unit for the price.

    Thanks, this makes it a lot easier to decide. im gonna go with the ace 400 and eventualy i might get the deus, but im not out that much anymore due to illness, so the ace will probably be more than fine. My experience has been that just because the machine SAYS its a dime doesn't mean that it is. Just because the machine SAYS its a nickle doesn't mean it is. YOU HAVE TO DIG to fine out for sure. The coin reader on the machine is not always correct. Depth has a lot to do with the accuracy as to what a signal really is.

    It will be good on the dry sand,but I wouldn't disc out the bottle caps. I'd just use the iron audio to identify them. Pull tabs you may be able to get away with, but you could lose a big gold ring. Happy hunting!

    The depth on both is close. The Ace is faster as far as target separation, and it comes with some nice goodies in the box adding to the value. The TP has some additional features, but it boils down to what do you really need in a machine for your type of hunting. I'll let you decide.

    This machine can detect coins down to eight inches or so, and larger objects deeper. I don't know of any detector that can detect 10 feet deep. You would need some kind of ground penetrating radar to get that deep, and the object would have to be more like a box of silver coins. Thanks for watching.

    They are target ID numbers. Different objects will give you a different target ID. A quarter may read 88, and a nickel may ring up as a 56. Once you get used to the numbers of common targets, it can help you determine what you may be detecting in the ground. Thanks for watching!

    does ace 400 can work both on fredh water ang salty wet sand?

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter

    @CarolinaCoinHunter

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Revx Bonda If you discriminate out iron and foil on any machine it will work on the wet sand ok. Only multi frequency machines or pulse induction units work well on salt water. Single frequency machines struggle as salt is conductive. Some machines have a beach mode that will help deal with this, but they still can't compete with a multi frequency unit. Your best bet is to get whatever machine you can get started with and work the dry sand and fresh water spots. If you detect over wet sand try discriminating out the iron and foil area, and you should be able to do some detecting. Just don't touch the coil to the surface as this will cause false signals. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    The Treasure Pro has a lot more features, like all metals mode, ground balance and beach mode, but the Ace 400 has a much faster recovery speed in discrimination mode. The Ace is also a bit cheaper and comes with some nice headphones.The Ace 400 has just as much depth. I like the 400 better for inland hunting at trashy parks, homesteads etc.

    +Chrissy Dunn The At Pro is water proof to ten feet and it does have a pro mode that has a faster audio response and a different tonal quality overall. It also has a manual ground balance to compensate for the soul conditions. The Ace 400 is preset, but does seem to function very well. The At Pro would be better for the beach environment. The Ace 400 would be great in the dry sand,but without the ground balance it will have a much harder time on the highly conductive wet sand. Hope this helps:)

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter

    Harley Rider It can't really tell what the target is. jewelry mode just has less items discriminated out to allow you to potentially find more gold, but more trash items as well.

    Carolina Coin Hunter I guess if I had to prioritize my needs, it would be silver coins and silver jewelry. Gold would be a lesser priority I guess due to the rarity of finding it. Would this Ace 400 suit mine and my wife's ( both us are newbies) needs? Can I scan in shallow fresh water? Or for the money, is there better?

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter

    @CarolinaCoinHunter

    7 жыл бұрын

    Harley Rider I think this is perfect for new users. It's a great machine for the money, and shallow water is not a problem. If you concentrate on silver and coins you will save yourself a lot digging. Gold can be anywhere from foil to zink penny area really, so it can be hard to get. Sober coins and rings will be up there with some and quarter, so it's not as hard to have some success.

    Can you do a video showing how it deals with rusty and new beer bottle caps close to a silver dime or a copper penny? Notch out everything below 70. Just have it so it can pick up targets from 70-99. I want to see if it can discriminate out bottle caps COMPLETELY and still hear a copper penny or silver coin. If it can do that which I doubt it can then it is equal to an AT Pro at least in standard mode.

  • @CarolinaCoinHunter

    @CarolinaCoinHunter

    +cache mole The iron audio sounds off on an old bottle cap, but you would not want to notch it out for coin hunting. The 400 has 12 segments that start from zero, and the AT has twelve segments that start at 40, after the iron section. So the notch window on the AT Pro is a smaller segment of numbers than the Ace 400. The Ace did a good job of identifying the bottle cap with the iron audio and a less stable ID than a coin, so I would be able to skip over that in the field no problem. I think that's pretty good. The AT Pro is of course a step up the food chain, but the Ace 400 seems to get the job done very well.

  • @cachemole

    +Carolina Coin Hunter The processor should be eliminating bottle caps completely. In an area that has bottle caps everywhere I can make it so I dont hear them at all with the At Pro. Why have the processor identify something made of steel as an 80's T.I.D. number at all? Copper pennies and silver coins are in the exact same range. Even cheaper Minelabs dont identify bottle caps as a high tone. Adding the iron audio is like putting a band aid on an inherent design flaw.

    ***** I'm not sure how exactly it works, but the high end Fishers, Teknetics, and others do the same thing. At least the Iron Audio gives you a clue. My F75 LTD can not do that. I dig deep round iron all the time with that thing. Minelab is whole different story,. There tech is good, but the units are very slow compared to the AT Pro or this Ace 400. I guess taking a lot longer sample of the target can give you a bit more info, but I'd rather have the recovery speed personally. I can hunt twice the ground in a given time with the AT than I could with the Etrac. That equals more goodies in my pocket for the day, especially if It's a one shot permission!

  • @cachemole

    +Carolina Coin Hunter I can hunt for more coins and waste less time digging bottle caps with my AT Pro and even a Minelab Xterra 505 which is a lower end detector. Saves me time and effort of digging bottle caps. When coin hunting Id rather not hear the caps all together. This saves me time and gets me the goodies.

    ***** Cool. I'd stick with what works for you. I rarely disc anything personally. I dig a lot of iffy signals and junk. I found a huge gold ring last year that rang up as a modern penny, and quite a few deep silver that sounded only one way, and would barely pinpoint. That's the cool thing about these machines, an detecting in general. We can pick what we like, and hunt how we want to. I wish you the best of luck with your detecting, and appreciate your comments. I enjoy chatting with fellow detectorist :)

  • @cachemole
    @cachemole8 жыл бұрын

    I didn't see much info about bottle caps in this video the main thing the Ace series detectors struggle with. This can be very frustrating if you are coin hunting exclusively. Why do the Ace's see beer bottle caps (which are everywhere) as a high tone in the 80's just like a coin? I know they will say it's because they are round and flat like a coin...but my AT Pro blocks them out completely. The Iron discrimination on the At Pro is much better. I don't even need to use iron audio on my AT Pro even though it has it. I have seen other Ace 400 videos including the Garret official ACE 400 instructional video on KZread show how it deals with bottlecaps and it isn't good. This was the main reason I got rid of my Ace 350. The iron audio on the 400 helps compensate for this flaw a little by identifying it as iron but the fundamental flaw is still there...bottle caps shouldn't come in as a high tone.
