How to get a GW manager to (almost) like you: 1.Enter store 2.Drop $1000 on several kits 3.Leave after only being there for 5-10 minutes 4.Repeat every week/month

As a customer the 3 things I know stepping into a GW... 1. Corporate dictates prices and policy NOT the local store staff. 2. They aren't paid remotely enough for the bullshit they deal with 3. You can get GW models cheaper on average at a local indie games store. This is a place for the shit you can't get anywhere else
I don't even enter their shops anymore due to staff pouncing on you, bring back the 80's when the shops were blasting metal and all staff were embroiled in their own game and only came over if you asked them to

Hey North, I am in the UK and the closest GW to me is about 20 miles away . “ Rich “ not his real name is awesome. I will always without fail buy brushes, paint and hobby supplies there even if I don’t get models. I do get some models from him because of your insight and telling us how things are behind the scenes. I enjoyed this vid as it really shows how much he has to do each day. Keep being awesome. A..
People seriously need to just paint their models. I've played with Chinacast and 3d printed stuff in GW stores. If it's a half way decent cast/print, when painted, no one is the wiser... Then the whole thing is avoided and it's a win win for customer and manager both...
I turned up with my nurgle chaos space marines to fight black tenplars and he brought an actual Reaver Titan. Dont worry i gave him a good fight. He is (is, things never change) all about the win. I am into the spectacle and 'unfolding story'. I wiped out his comand squad using my flyers and took down 3 void shields and disabled one volcan cannon. My last plague marine was sromped upon.
In NZ we have maybe 1 or 2 GWs stores, neither of which I'll ever visit. It's all club play where I am. And given the price hikes on already ridiculous markups, my 3D printer do indeed go brrr these days. Non GW/FW warhound (which I won't be transporting around looking for a battle) cost me less than a box of marines. I'm currently churning out Solar Auxilia infantry for well under a dollar each; their recent 30k box would cost nearly as much as the entry level printer I got... Sure, you need to take into account prep like washing in IPA, disposable gloves, respirator, etc. But even then it's no more prep work than cutting off sprues, cleaning mold lines, etc. Terrible for the pile of shame, though.
That's OK, I dislike me too. I hear it's very common.

Imo You're not as bad as people are saying.
Why would anyone still want to work in a GW store?
Anywhere customer service is concentrated is probably not going to absolutely love the customers. But it is also not the customers fault that the corporation puts all that on the store managers.
I will say. Every games workshop in Canada lets you play in store. They even advertise daily play schedules and weekly events. It's awesome. Always packed. My local GW manager is the longest running manager in the world. He has special awards and everything. Gameplay is core to sales, I don't know why the UK GW doesn't understand that.
Reddit is just a huge shit hole , but then so is dakka dakka.
While I agree that you shouldn’t antagonize the managers.. I won’t lie if a store manager believes they can be snarky and not get clapped back.. they’re sadly mistaken. I work retail myself, and I get it.. these one man shows are brutal. That said, I do not care if you’ve had a bad day and have had to deal with fifty crappy customers, you’re providing customer service and are held to a standard of behavior. Now if I’m being an asshole to you first fair enough that’s on me, but I disagree with this idea that a manager is entitled to judge a customer poorly simply because they are having a rough time that day. And I’m glad you understand that so well.
I HAVE COME FOR A BATTLE.
I used to play games all the time at GW, there would be four tables and a 4'x4' demo table. We all bought everything from these stores, for the most part. We'd build and paint there too sometimes. I subscribed to Whit Dwarf. There were giveaways, swag and drawings.

Sorry but I miss the point where that is my problem. Being mean to staff is one thing and sure you shouldnt do that. But I'm not taking the fact that they have a shitty job as a good enough reason for them to be mean, antisocial or that I should support them in whatever form. And yes I want them all to quit the shitty job gw offers. Make them feel the problen of getting anyone to run their shops. You think what? Being nice will change things? GW is a business and if they don't feel the pressure, then they will not change.
My local GW store manager is great. Genuinely friendly guy who takes time to help and listen to everyone regardless of spend.
The whistling of nose breathing 👌🏻
Games Workshop's staff are just too pushy for me. I don't want the old-fashioned hard sell with scripting and a pitch from a merchant when I walk into a shop. I just want to chill and browse you know?
"ive come for a battle" haha thats hilarious Honestly it sounds like GW is pretty on par with other jobs. I have worked in hospitals for years now. Similar bullshit daily. Losing hope in humanity etc. I think any job with human contact is going to be the same
You know , honestly, after everything we know about GW and the hobby in general. I don't think we should be supporting this garbage anymore. This entire hobby has become some type of predatory monstrosity that is just not healthy for folks anymore . From youtube personalities, to painting snobs, competitive try hards, price of entry, politics . I mean the list of negatives sure seems to outweigh anything positive. I think it's time we all just grew up.

I go in on a Saturday to chew the fat with him regularly and have said to him if I’m ever taking up to much of his time let me know. he has said he like my visits because I drop more money then most people and we don’t just talk about warhammer haha

Im glad that you stood up for the kid. Shows how society and games workshop reputation has changed since the 90s, we used to go to the pub every day after work wearing our gw shirts and never had any trouble or even get recognised for a staff member.
Was there ever a time a manager got sued? Seems brutal to leave you out to dry
Is the no games in the store policy a UK thing? The local Warhammer store here in the US has advertised games (usually small leagues and games for newly released sets such as Warcry, etc.) in the store. They still have a policy that the miniatures used must be from GW which is understandable. I enjoy your "rants" and talks along with helping out with positive mental discussions.

The test of someone's character is how they treat people they believe are at the same station or lower. Treating retail, hospitality, public servants poorly is an insult to your own character

Ah Titan guy, that was the second video I watched from you and the one that got me hooked.
You may as well just replace the title of "Warhammer store manager" with "SCAPEGOAT" with how everything is your responsibility and your fault, not the company that hired you. As good ol' Colin Mocrie put it, you become the "Lightning rod of hate."
But they've never even met me
So much truth in this video.
Sounds like any other retail job to me tbh.
You can support the Warhammer franchise without forking over money to Games Workshop.
Customer service is aids. Love the video
Is there any genuine reason to like GW as a company? They treat their staff pretty badly, overprice their products (in the case of books etc the quality is low) and don't actually engage with the community.
When you are the face of the company you will get people's opinions on said company, if that's unacceptable get a different job

@Wendel17 What Azrael said holds true. If you're a ground level worker, you will get shit for things outside your control. Retail staff get shit for faulty / overpriced / unavailable items. Waiters get shit for cold food, or a hair in food. Call handlers get shit for a bill being wrong. If you're ground-level staff, you will get shit for things nothing to do with you. If you can't handle that, then you need to get out for your own sake. It's not right. It's not fair. But customers who are unhappy, or who have an issue that needs to be resolved, are blocked from reaching anyone who is involved in the issue directly. You can't march into a GW board meeting to yell at execs about pricing or stock levels. Companies use their ground level workers as a meat shield, deliberately, so they don't have to deal with unhappy customers. Most people don't do this to make themselves feel good. They do it because they're frustrated with something the company has/hasn't done. They can't reach the people responsible so they "attack" the company through its representatives - the ground level staff. Of course some people are just assholes and do get off on this. But I honestly consider them the minority. Another part of what you said is true - the possible end result is stores empty of staff because nobody's willing to do the job. But that won't happen for as long as people need jobs, even shit ones. As much as unstaffed stores are the dream of companies, it isn't happening anytime soon. . And yes, moving away from companies who you're unhappy with is a good idea - I've done this recently with GW - and it's easy with "luxury" providers like them. Harder with more essential services, especially when they're all shit (looking at you, cellphone and broadband providers!)

@Wendel17 and if people stopped working for companies that hide behind a front facing staff that "can't do anything about it and don't want to hear from their customers" the company would be forced to change and yes stop giving your money to a company that treats you poorly.

@@azrael1045 that's also a bit of a fallacy. Everyone needs a job in order to survive. So really, yes it is unacceptable and people should be much less shitty to others and instead focus that effort in a way that will actually bring about change.

@@azrael1045 another fallacy really. The whole system is designed to keep a tonne of people on the bottom. Upskilling doesn't guarantee there's a position. Change has to come from above, not below. The trick is getting the above to act on it and you can't do that from beneath their notice.
Your job being at risk for having games at a GW store. Must only be a UK thing. In America at least where I am the 3 GW Store that are within my region haves games night. And even advertise them on their social media sites.

This is honestly true of pretty much any store. My friend is just like me. And we're both big shooters and he ran a shop for awhile. It gives you a distaste, because, for every normal person you get you also get some absolute bottom shelf human beings of some flavor or another. Further for shooting and hunting supplies, you have to deal with them in an environment with deadly implements

I don't work at a GW store nor do I work at GW Corporate, but it seems that a lot of the things you talk about only apply to stores in the UK not stores in America (where I live). Going forward, I would ask that you either put a disclaimer in front of what you're about to say or more research into how things are handled in America. If my local GW is having a slow day, and I have plenty of time, the manager will invite me to sit down and talk... not about lore, not about models, not about what I'm working on at the moment, but about life in general. He's willing to play games in store that aren't intro games as long as you understand that he might disappear from time to time to help a customer. A lot of what you talk about when it comes to GW simply doesn't happen in America. And, while you have put that disclaimer in a rant or two, I feel it would be best to either have it in ever rant video about store life or do more research about how the same situation would play out in America.
this was just ranty... you just are having an argument with a hypothetical person instead of telling a story
The manager goes to meetings? He has bosses to consult with? Then youre the guy who is supposed to listen to customers complaints and criticisms, and pass them along to your superiors. Sounds like a whole load of unprofessionalism if you resent your customers for leaning on you as a representitive.
