    Damn. That first story... Poor kid (as was) Gotta disagree with the entire "just leave the kids alone" though. Kids need to learn timekeeping, responsibilities, commitments. Cadets is a pretty serious commitment (for the parents as well as the kids) and encouraging a kid to fuck it off whenever he's doing something fun will see it fall by the wayside very quickly, and lose all the associated benefits. I was in the cadets (air) as a teenager, and fucking it off for girls and beer at 15 is something i very much regret now. If I hadn't, i could have gained so much more from it. Anyway, he knew in advance that he had to be done by 430ish, so his parents were in the right to "come on, we're done". Just went about it in _completely_ the wrong way in practice...

    The late 90's story is epic. That's how I recall GW in the UK, great music, hot summer days, good games with a stored packed out, painting and socialising, and a stereotypical metal rocker of the time as a staff member. Where did it all go so wrong.

    You don't know what RTB01 is? It is the classic Rogue Trader vintage multipart marine plastic set. 30 marines for £10 when it was first released.

    I had someone, who wasn’t a gamer or into the hobby, give me a box of these. I told him they are worth some money. He didn’t care, “these are a gift”. Okay, thank you sir. I wasn’t into SM at the time and traded them for stupid amount of other minis.

    I really wish they'd bring Gorka-Morka back, especially if it meant new Diggaz models. I'll play devil's advocate for the first story where, yes it's important to let your kids gain their experience with socialising and building their confidence, but on the other there's also teaching them to be responsible and to prioritise important engagements - though I'd actually ask your child what they prefer between their hobby and another group event like Cadets instead of pressuring them into doing something and then being annoyed when they don't have interest in it (as a former Achor Boys/Boys Brigade child who was expected to attend both Monday and Friday evenings, I'd have preferred being allowed to watch The Simpsons and Robot Wars on a Friday night instead.) Regardless, the dad not only ruined his son's fun time, but the rest of the group's fun as well and destroyed a bunch of models at the same time.

    THIS JUST IN: Beleaguered Games Workshop adopts new corporate philosophy, finds new way to regain market share: Games Workshop claims stores are bastion of life lessons. Invite kids to quit all outside commitments. 'Everything you need is right here!' Says desperately cash strapped CEO. Threatens to ban parents attempting to remove kids from stores.

    Why does nobody play Horus Heresy? So many of these “nightmares” are just people complaining about the lack of narrative games, when HH is right there?

    It’s not just the lack of narrative games, HH army style and theme doesn’t attract me and the lack of faction diversity puts me off. Plus half the models are extremely expensive!

    Coffee dog, North, Go and play the older editions. I have a group in Nottingham close to where I’m based and I’m loving life. We play 3rd and 4th edition, The scenarios are heavily narrative, the character really comes through, and we have a beer and fun. All the books can be found online with a bit of looking if you aren’t fortunate enough to own them. Only this weekend I smashed a fourth edition apocalypse game, tyranids vs imperium, 6,000 points aside and it was An absolute blast :)

    alternating actions is why I won't touch one page rules for a larger scale game like 40k... though you are right that for a smaller game like kill team they are a good addition

    @@jeagerblackpaw2922i view it as opposite 40k is fine for smaller 1000 to 2000 point games, anything larger grim dark future from one page rules, becaise nothing is more boring than waiting an hour for your oppenent to move, shoot and psychic attacks, his or hers entire 4000 point army before you get to move a single piece of your army, with large games one page rules works better as both players are more active

    That Gorkamorka race sounds like Gaslands but with Orks and Gretchin lol. I’m challenging myself to design a tabletop skirmish system for 40k. I’ve got some simple mechanics laid out and have established a fundamental design document about how I plan this to go. I’m looking at games like Kill Team ‘21, Malifaux, Marvel: Crisis Protocol, and a few others for inspiration. I think there’s room for a fun, small size game with good tactical choices in both list building and gameplay. Ideally I would like to see small games played with between 5 and 15 minis going all the way up to maybe 50 on the higher end. Going to playtest a little with some coworkers at lunch today and tomorrow.

    Ah, Gorka Morka and before that Dark Future ( I believe it was called.) Because of dark future I bought those models and played them with Car Wars rules I scaled up the game by making a huge measuring tool And then painted up hot wheels cars that I had To use as well and And built a generic city escape with spray painted gray roads Only played it a couple of times

    The whining about the pronouns is annoying. Languages evolve and become more complex naturally.

  • @SebaztienHawke-ci5hm

    @SebaztienHawke-ci5hm

    2 ай бұрын

    Languages evolve when it makes sense for them too. A new word needs to have an accepted and understood root word, not just be made up out of nothing, as modern slang mostly is. We need English to be uniform so we actually understand each other. Otherwise you have a hundred dialects and situations like in China where someone can’t understand a person from two provinces away because the dialects are so different. Most pronouns are made up nonsense, and “they” already exists and refers to anyone at all. As does “it”. Pronouns in the Imperium are ridiculous because those people would just be X-ecuted for being mutants.
