G37 Gear Position Indicator using Factory Gauges (Plug+Play!): MotorvateDIY Garage Ep.46

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hey everyone!
Here is a short video showing our newly developed, plug+play, standalone device that plugs into the OBD diagnostic port and displays the current gear in the middle of the FACTORY GAUGES!!!
Now, you might say that you don't need a display to tell you what gear you are in... and I agree. BUT for some silly reason, I LOVE being able to see the current gear displayed on the factory gauge cluster!
NOTE:
This will only work on manual transmission 2008 G35 or 2009+ G37. Hope to test on a 2007 G35 and the (rare-ish) 2008 G37 Coupe soon. **It does not work with an automatic transmission.**

    Though I do agree that it's not really needed, it's really nice to have. It really confuses me that Infiniti/Nissan did not include that and synchro rev matching for the G37 when the 370Z has it

    I see the argument for it being a sport feature but I kinda saw it as a luxury feature too. Probably not the best example of it but the BMW M cars have it. But I guess they have a stronger emphasis on sportiness than Infiniti

    Not with the factory gauge cluster. BUT we do have a standalone gauge that shows torque converter lock up status, current gear, automatic transmission fluid temp and a few other items. With the weather warming up, I hope to shoot a video to show the automatic transmission gauges we have developed. (I need to borrow a car, as my G37 is the 6 speed manual) I have made a note, and will update you when I have something to show :)

  • @MotorvateDIY

    @MotorvateDIY

    Жыл бұрын

    The sunroof drains don't need to be clogged to leak. Over time the sunroof drain gasket compresses and allows water to drip and collect inside the car. This is exactly what happened to my 2011 G37... replacement sunroof drains fixed the problem.

    You can remove the glove box and far right vent, then reach under the dash pull back the insulation to see the drain going into the firewall. With the sunroof open, pour a cup of water on the front right side and see if the drain drips. Watch some videos to get a better idea of what is involved.

    Hey Corey, Every time I drive my G37, I test my gauges. Overall, they are working really well! The only issue is about once every 30 starts, the gauge gets stuck in a reboot loop. It restarts over and over. BUT a single push on the reset button, always gets the gauges to start up with out any problems. As you can imagine, this is a tricky one to trouble shoot. My next step is to hook up a debugger and watch the start up.

    There are 2 ways to do this: (1) Fix the TPMS problem. You may have one or more dead TPMS sensors or they may not be programmed to your car. (2) Temporary fix: Use a scan tool to clear the codes on the BCM. This will turn off the TPMS light for 15 minutes to a few days. As you can see, option 2 really isn't very good, so option 1 is the best and permanent fix.

    I do. However, the larger the display, the processing and data bandwidth is required. This is when it gets expensive and more complex. My mini-dash / LCD gauges uses modules that are inexpensive and easy to obtain, but the screen size is limited to around 320 x 240 pixels in order to have a fast responding display. After all, if I am selling something, I should know what it works on. Testing them allow me to verify Nissan/Infiniti didn't change the data encoding on the CAN bus.
