Convert any wired sensor to Bluetooth with our Bluetooth Sensor Server: MotorvateDIY Garage Ep.44

Hey everyone,
Here's an overview of our upcoming "Bluetooth Sensor Server". This converts any wired sensor (pressure or temperature) to Bluetooth for use with our G37/370z LCD gauges/mini-dash. (Gauge video: • 16 Page Mini-Dash/LCD ... )
With our Bluetooth sensor server, you don't need to run wires from the engine bay to the interior... If you have ever done that, you know it isn't quick or easy
and if not done right, you can end up with a water leak inside the car with wet wires or electronics.
In the video we show:
• A durable and affordable temperature sensor to measure the manual transmission and differential oil temperatures.
• An oil pressure sensor install tip to prevent the "T" fitting from snapping off.
It supports up to 8 sensors. In the video, we have 4 sensors connected: engine oil pressure, fuel pressure, manual transmission & differential oil temperature.
We also show how the sensors are connected to the engine (fuel and oil pressure), transmission and differential.
The Bluetooth Sensor Server will power the sensors, read each sensor, convert the measured voltage to a temperature/pressure and then broadcast the values out on Bluetooth.
AND
it only needs 2 wires: Ignition and ground!
When the Bluetooth Sensor Server is used with our LCD gauges/mini-dash ( • 16 Page Mini-Dash/LCD ... ) there is one device on 3 networks: the car's network (CAN bus), the Bluetooth network and the OBD network.
AND
If an SD card is inserted into the LCD gauges/mini-dash before starting the car, the sensors are recorded to the SD card in a CSV format for review and analysis at a later time.
NOTE:
The Bluetooth Sensor Server and the LCD gauges/mini-dash are still under development and we hope to have them available by the summer. The price is not known at this time, as the semi-conductor costs are currently unstable. We will have this locked down in the next month or so.
As always, thanks for watching!

This sounds amazing! Is this only meant for the G37 / 350z? I'm looking for something like this to monitor my oil temps as soon as I finish restoring my '96 EK4 Civic and start using it on track days. The car is OBD1 and has an aftermarket oil filter plate to mount oil temp and pressure sensors. Instead of installing fixed meters, I love the idea of popping on the mini-dash when driving on track. Would the mini-dash be powered from usb or use a built in battery perhaps? How do you plan on getting this to market? Through crowdfunding, or pre-order maybe? Or open source the hardware and software? I'd like to contribute :)

Hey Tim, The Bluetooth sensor server can support up to 8 sensors and will work on any analog pressure or temperature gauge on any make/model. It simply reads reads the analog voltage of the sensor, converts it to a value (via transfer function) and then sends it out via Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) The Bluetooth data can be received/displayed on a LCD mini-dash that is powered by the car/USB or displayed on phone app. (iPhone app is already done) As for the plans to bring to market or open source, I haven't made a decision on that yet. I hadn't considered crowd funding, and will look into that. I have been testing it every time I drive my car and it works really well and automatically connects in about 2 seconds. Anyways, thank you for your message!

Awesome work! I'm VERY interested in getting one if possible. In the 370z it's easy to add gauges, but my G37s looks bad with so many gauges I had to put in the pillars. This is a much cleaner, simpler and better solution. I always drive with an Ecutek dongle and do datalog, always... Do you connect to the OBD as well or you have a male female OBD port to get the values and leave room for a scanner?

Thanks for your kind words! The LCD gauges / mini-dash does connect to the OBD port. However, we also have developed an OBD "Y cable" so two devices can plug into one OBD port, so the gauges and any other device can both be used at the same time. :)

@@MotorvateDIY that's simply awesome!! I can't wait to have one if you decide to sell them. You put a lot of R&D here so at least you can make some profit from it. You look like the type of person that wouldn't want to get profit from it but you sould take in consideration all this work that you put into it, even if it's a hobby and you enjoy doing it, you have to add it to the end product in my opinion.

Yes there are many ESP32 available... However the Bluetooth sensor server does not use an ESP32. I have about 160 hours of work into the Bluetooth Sensor Server. I am still trying to decide if I make this a product to sell, or give it away open source. I like the idea of getting something in return for my time and I like the idea of giving it away for free to help others.

@@MotorvateDIY I understand fully. I let my baby go opensource. I was progressing slowly and the market is niche for my dash anyways lol. All good about sharing. I've got a nodemcu and d1 mini from years back in playing with now. I've also got a teensy 4.0 sitting idle. Anyways, my project always evolves and I appreciate the creative solution you've been developing. I'm going to keep tinkering away on my iterations lol... good luck on your project!
