FULL RESTORATION of Vintage WW1 Binoculars
Full Restoration of WW1 Binoculars
Made in France by Lemaire. This model dates from right around WW1.
The "Made In France" stamped in English suggests these were made after 1918. All products after that date, imported into the US were required by law to have a country of manufacture marked on them. These were originally finished in black lacquer and leather. I refinished them in black brass lacquer and wrapped them with black cowhide leather.

No error of margin while sticking the handle protectors to the handles. Terrific piece of restoration. Perfect.
So incredibly soothing and no annoying music. I could watch for hours. Thank you! 😊

Великолепно!
In my opinion a perfect restoration, you kept their history whilst making them as close to how they originally looked as possible.
This was incredible! Things were made so much better back then! That's why I collect and restore vintage/antique wood working tools. They were made to last. I have a block plane that is between 145-152 years old and it still makes shavings!! You have another subscriber! Great work!
I get a feeling of immense satisfaction watching that last screw go on. I can only imagine what it does for you. Thank you for these videos
Наконец то хоть кто-то на самом деле сделал как нужно!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I am still wondering how he figured out the template for the binoculars? Very impressive!
i'm pleased that they were restored back to the original spec but honestly i think they look way better polished and unpainted

Absolutely! Not painted was way better!

Not painted is more visually exciting but remember, these were WWI Field Glasses and shiny brass would make an excellent target for a sniper...

Well, people are always unhappy when these type of things aren’t painted their original color, or what have you, so he did the right thing. He restored it to original condition making no exceptions.

I have a pair of those displayed in my home. Thank you for restoring that pair.
The last adjustment with the screw to place the slot vertical is something that was taught a long time ago to apprentices. You sir are a Craftsman. Thanks for sharing this fine work.

A visitor to my house once noted "that's cool, the screws on your light switch plate ended up vertically" as if it was an accident... "huh, how about that?" haha
Awesome restauration, he don't look brand new but still old ( not shiny, without NO Patina as some YT videos) but in perfect condition ... a real restauration !

Thank you very much!
Fascinating ... who know there were so many pieces. I love when you lay them all so we can just what goes into them. Fascinating.
Officially one of the coolest things I have seen restored!
I truly hope you still have this part of history brought back by you still in your home! I am a retired soldier and it must be considered that the possibility of this soldiers survival is small!
Outstanding restoration. A terrific piece of history that has lasted all this time, it says lot. 👍
Nice work.
Impressive craftsman skills. One of the very historical pillars of civilization here.
I had my doubts at times... but, geez... they turned out beautifully!!!
Aww, you painted them! I loved the raw metal.
@bravo2966

Enemy snipers would also have preferred them to be shiny metal.
Well done! I like the use of tinted lacquer as the original would have been, and the meticulous way you laid out the pattern for the new leather.
Fantastic job
Very, very well done.
Painstaking work by someone who very obviously knows what they are doing to achieve an excellent restoration. I simply wouldn't have the courage to attempt this unless I had 10 sets to learn on. Need to find a restoration video of my Tento binoculars
What a great work Another peace of history was saved by you Thank you Yours Frank
Wow...just amazing!
Wow i did not expect the end product.

Excellent restoration .. Thank you for showing us this beautiful work .
I love Antiques so much. Sometimes you just never realise how many parts there are when restoring. So many things I love about this its just So Cool. May they last another 100 years now. 👍💗💗💗 Thank you for sharing. Stay safe an take care of you an yours. p.s. when you edit your videos, consider lowering the volume on the parts when you use your little hand tool. It can get very loud at times.

If you go into your sound settings, you can check the 'loudness equalisation' box.

Beautiful job!
I have a large pair that was used on the yacht named Rene. It was owned by Alfred P Sloan. The former chairman of General Motors. My grandfather was the VP of the Sloan foundation. The binoculars have the name of the Boston the case and the binoculars
Patience and determination, amazing
Beautiful job. 👍🏻
AMAZING!!!!
I too, enjoy completely dismantling everything in sight.... They just aren't always broken, and don't necessarily always make it back together....

Also you’ve helped me get over a hurdle with one of my restorations, I never though of using paint thinner now I am able to simply paint over a textured paint instead of removing it.
Yeah man, turned out great!
Looks great well done.
