100 Year Old Brass Fan Restoration

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Patented in 1921, this Polar Cub six inch desk fan manufactured by A.G. Gilbert. , has the solid brass fan that was only available the first few years of manufacture. They switched to a brass painted fan after a few years. The base is cast iron. The motor is almost identical to erector set motors, which were manufactured by the same company.
This restoration has some media blasting, welding, fabrication, CNC engraving, lacquering, and some electrical work.

The whole reason I started watching these types of videos was because I like old fans. I didn’t wanna spend $1000 for a fan that barely works when I can spend a fraction, or nothing, and just restore it myself. Now I’m obsessed with this stuff and would kill to have a workshop filled with every tool imaginable.

@@AcmeRestorations I found old fans work so well, if they don't wobble. And no doubt 100 years from now your fan will still be working - and by then a true museum piece. I would love to get my hands on a pancake fan, but they are so rare and when they are available, cost so much - oh, just a few thousand. And I'm not rich, but I'm not paying thousands for a fan, no matter how unique, cool or ancient. Besides when I croak, my stupid family would either throw it out, or sell it for $25.00, not having a clue of its true value.

I have already imagined how someone repairs a Chinese fan in 100 years. Therefore, I never tire of repeating - the most reliable technique is the one where there are no plastic parts at all. This is especially true for modern kitchen appliances. Professional kitchen appliances only made of metal, no plastic.
