Restoration of a Broken Nintendo Gameboy
Ойындар
A serious attempt at restoration of a broken Nintendo Game Boy. Not just cleaned with soapy water. Stuff is actually getting fixed in this one! There's corrosion. Some sort of dried goop. Maybe Dr. Pepper; I don't know. Bad solder joints. This thing is the color of a nicotine stain. Audio's broken. Display's broken. Might do an upgrade! Things are getting fixed. Stuff's getting restored here bro!

I'm not either. But I didn't want to buy 5 more Game Boys trying to find a working display.
WOW!!! Freaking amazing resurrection. You brought this back from the dead.
My dad cleans out storage building for a guy and I found one of these plus two original Nintendo System's I'll have to restore all three thanks for the video now I know what I need to do to restore them.

Really cool video. I've got an original Game Boy lying around somewhere. Might have just decided what to do with it!!
Just as a suggestion? If you got a magnetizer for your screwdriver, you could pull the screws out after unscrewing them, instead of just dumping them onto the table. Awesome Restorations has a link in some of their videos for a good magnetizer/demagnetizer.

Shame about the old Dot Matrix display, but I guess there's some things that just can't be fixed. (Eight-year-old me would've killed for a backlight like that - I spent many a dark car ride squinting at the screen and hoping for a street light)
Cool 😎- you did it💯
What is the name of the UV light thing that’s amazing makes retro brightening so much better
@AcmeRestorations

It's called a UV exposure unit. It's for making PCBs.
Wow, that gameboy has been thoroughly used and weathered. Great job on the restauration! Just wondering though, weren't those buttons supposed to be red? I've never owned one, so my memory of holding one for a minute as a kid is kinda faded.

Are games f or gameboy any good anymore? I thought the batteries in them that maintain saves and stuff are good for 20ish years?

Hello, I want to find that wire brush you are using. Would you let me know the model number or any identifying marks? The only thing I could make out was Archer, which is an old Radio Shack brand.

Nice vid. But just one critique. The gameboy came out in 89. Making the very oldest GB 31 years old. That gameboy ain’t 40.

Yep. It just FEELS like 40 years to me! :) Fixed. Thanks for the heads-up.
Question: has anyone tried to clean the PCB of a Gameboy, NDS, etc., with a ultrasonic cleaner? I'm thinking of buying one for this purpose.
@AcmeRestorations
3 жыл бұрын
Well, while you can clean a PCB with an ultrasonic cleaner, I don't think it's a good idea to put the display in one. Probably just the controller board and not the video board.
@naggano

@@AcmeRestorations yea, I wouldn't think of putting the screen into a liquid haha. It's just that I've had many dirty and rusty handheld videogame devices, and while you can do a real good job with alcohol and compressd air, there's still places you can't get, like inside L&R buttons of a NDS, so I've been wondering abou using an ultrasonic cleaner.
answer: yes
Good job, mate. 👍👍👍👍👍👍🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺

Shame the original screen couldn't be saved but that was always the original Game Boy's weakest link. The screen made it iconic but it usually failed before anything else on it did!
@AcmeRestorations
3 жыл бұрын
Yes. The LCDs are kind of a "one shot", so when they get old, very hard to fix. Also the driver chips are built into the cables. Making them impossible to replace. At least there are really good options for after-market replacements. I'm loving the new screen.
