Fujifilm X-Trans vs Bayer Sensor Comparison - Ultimate Fujifilm sensor?

Hello my friends, in today's video we assess whether the Bayer or X-Tran 4 sensor from Fujifilm is best. There's quite a bit of debate about this online, so just offering my perspective with real-world examples.

Is there a difference in luminance noise between the sensors? I'm guessing it's not that different under most circumstances. They are both great sensors for their intended audience. This video really helped me explain why I prefer the X-Trans sensor rather than the Bayer, despite the similarities. Those subtle differences do add up. Maybe not for newbies like me, but for pros with high-end projects. (You gained another subscriber. I really like your style: straight-to-the-point, just-the-facts. No annoying gimmicks. And thanks for keeping the promos at the start/ending of the video, instead of the middle.)

Thanks. Glad it was insightful. The differences like you said aren't massive. But, in large format printing, those subtle details really make a photo pop. But, both sensors are great. So most people won't even notice them.

Nice comparison video.. at 2:30 you mentioned the x-Trans is used only in higher end camera. Well they have it in higher end like XT single digit (1,2,3,4) and midrange XT 2 digit (10,20,30) cameras. Entry level models like XA and XF and XT 100/200 uses Bayer

Yes this is what I was referring to. Should have specified it a bit more though. But, you're correct. The X-T double digit range also has the X-Trans design.

Really useful explanation! Thank you. I was confused before. I just bought an xt-200 which is just for holiday and family photos. It was at the top of my price range but I’m very pleased with it so far. I wouldn’t really be looking too closely at fine detail so I guess it was aimed at people like me. ( can’t really call myself a ‘photographer'. Keen amateur, but learning, more like).

Hi Maureen, yes the X-T200 is an excellent beginners and enthusiast aimed photography camera. And the best option for this purpose in Fuji's lineup, (outside of the brand new X-E4). This video is very much aimed at season photographers that really are nitpicky about fine details. But, these details really only matter when you're printing images larger than say, 18 x 24 inches. So, this is a very niche video lol.

@@PhotographyPX yes, I’m afraid I’m watching more videos than actually taking photos at the moment. Still the middle of winter and the middle of complete lockdown here. 🇬🇧 Still enjoyed watching it, if a tad over my head. 😳 x

I prefer the xtrans. The noise pattern of bayer is not that pleasing. The noise of ISO 6400 in xtrans is better that the bayer for me

I changed from other brand to Fuji because of JPG file on Fuji is better than others. Why did you not compare the JPG file? If only consider on raw/raf file, the Fuji can not compete the Full-frame sensor on Sony, Canon or Nikon.

This is a comparison between fuji cameras. Not APS-C versus full-frame.

@@PhotographyPX I see, but APS-c of Fujifilm is quite good, if consider the JPG file, IQ can be compared with full-frame. But the RAF file is not good as other brands, for exp: compare with APS-c in A6x00/A5x00 of Sony.

xtrans sensor is sadness and fairy tales, it is worse than bayer. Take nikon z50 and fuji xs10, and you will see how fuji loses in the photo. Take a photo of the landscape and compare. Xtrans gives a loose image, there is no color reserve in it, it cannot convey normal shades landscape on distant objects, because of this, detail is lost. And the portrait is not even worth mentioning, xtrans is clay faces in jpeg, a little capcure one helps, in general this is a misunderstanding.

Dude wtf… If the pictures you are comparing (except for the third) have different focus points, your hole test is just pointless 🤣

    You compare an X-trans2, 16mpx, and Bayer 24mpx, it's not equal... 😅

  • @PhotographyPX

No. I compare the X-Trans IV sensor to the latest Bayer. The 2MP difference between the two sensors is negligible. This is otherwise a fair comparison to show how good the X-T200 is despite the entry-level price and to show's there's only a minor bump in quality.
