Fugue of Destiny | Original Composition in A-Minor
Музыка
Noteworthy features of this fugue:
→ the first two notes of the subject are used as different scale degrees throughout the piece:
→ 1 and 6 (0:24; 1:21; 1:56; 2:08; 2:13; 2:27)
→ 5 and 3 (0:14; 0:34; 1:03; 1:30; 2:04)
→ 6 and 4 (0:54; 1:41)
→ the only interruptions of the continuous flow of 16th notes occur after each episode, emphasising the following entry:
→ before the first middle entry section (0:51)
→ before the second middle entry section (1:20)
→ before the stretto section (1:55)
→ before the coda (2:26)
The fugue has four parts and is written for two players.
Inspiration: I have not been inspired by any particular piece, but it has been brought to my attention that the motif in the head of the subject (spanning the first four notes) is also used in Shostakovich’s 5th symphony.

Rarely have I heard a contemporary fugue that well executed. I was afrai at first by the complexity of the subjet but it was incredibly well done. Thanks for the music !

Honestly super impressive! I would love to here this performed or played with a better sound font. Some of the areas where two or more lines are playing the 16th note runs sound super thick and lack the impressive musicality of the rest of the piece, but I suspect that's probably just an artifact of the basic MIDI sound font.

Thank you so much! (= There is actually a better sounding version on my channel, although it’s still a MIDI-mockup. Do you find the 16th runs there boring as well? kzread.info/dash/bejne/dW2ssLV8nqjFk5s.html Also, I’m wondering which parts you actually mean. There are only very few instances of nothing but 16th notes-and there are 16th runs all the way through the piece, in combination with more texture in other voices. Could you point me to time stamps that struck you?

Hello! I recently found your channel, and I am impressed. You get better and better. If you are open to constructive criticism, there are moments where there are only sixteenth notes and they create a certain monotony, which interrupts the flow of the phrases. Of course this is stricly subjective. Keep it up!
@averynhiell

Thank you so much! (= Yeah, I have to remind myself to use more pauses and change up the rhythm a bit if a piece has a lot of sixteenth notes.
Hey. Is it just me or did that opening sound like the cello part at the beginning of Shostakovich's 5th symphony. I'm not accusing you of copyright infringement, that's just an observation.
@averynhiell

Interesting! It’s indeed the exact same figure (scale degree 1 up to 6, 5 down to raised 7; also rhythmically). I’m pretty sure I have not encountered the symphony before, so it couldn’t really be inspired by it (if anything, subconsciously). I had already wondered if this specific figure had been used anywhere else. I mean, it’s a very simple and obvious figure, rhythmically, harmonically, and melodically. Thank you for bringing it to my attention. (:

It was good. But the only thing I could suggest is using alto clef, the switches between the bass and treble could be avoided should you decide to do so.

En el compás 9 (contando el compás de anacrusa) has pensado en crear una pequeña pausa ahí, como una corchea en lugar de una semicorchea? Eso daría más sentido a la frase para mí, pero es una opinión personal, gran pieza!!

too fast imo, hard to catch the harmonies and follow the counterpoint because the notes are mixed into mush at this speed (I listened to the “better” version, tempo is still an issue) i can’t really evaluate it because i can't hear all the important stuff for the above reason i would be glad to hear this on the harpsichord or organ, in 0.5-0.75x speed however

Thank you, I appreciate it! (: When I wrote this fugue, I was still pretty much looking at Bach for guidance, and he does the continuous 16th runs all the time, although more effectively of course. I have since tried to deviate more and more from Bach and to do my own thing.

Well, that’s not that easy. I’m not a pianist, and I don’t plan on becoming one. I would pay pianists to play and record it, but I can’t really afford that. I’m currently working on at least optimising the piano sound.
