Fuel Blog Part 9 - Husky Results - Bad Engine Idle and Poor Econ.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today I filled up with Shell gas. This will be the last major company I will be using for this test. However, all companies have been tested with 91 octane. As a bonus, I have added to more upcoming videos that will cover 87 and 94 octane. More on that another time.
The results from Husky was underwhelming. The car drove ok. It was not terrible like Mobil, but was not amazing like Canadian Tire either. Average at best. But the fuel economy was pretty bad and, oddly, the engine made some weird noises at idle with this gas. As soon as I put the new gas, Shell, in, the noise went away. No more Husky for me, for sure.

This is the first video I'm watching in this series. One thing I would recommend is trying to reset the ecu of the car to make the fuel economy and responsiveness more accurate. The ecu will adapt to your driving habits and I've noticed the infiniti system is super sensitive with its electronic gauges, especially in terms of mileage etc

Hey Bik, sorry for the delay. Depending on the test, I completely agree. But there are other tests out there that test gasoline at its purest levels, on a completely reset ECU. What I wanted to do is show that, depending on the vehicle, driving habits and style, this can adversely affect fuel economy and performance. If I wanted to prove which gas was best, I would have done exactly what you said. If I want to prove which gas was best for me, in my car, with my driving style, this is the way to go, I think (I may be wrong though lol). It has been very surprising though.

Mine is doing 19.7 mpg both highway and city driving on standard mode at 187k miles. I only use premium gas.

Nice, not bad at all. I use sport mode and the shifter, mostly city, and have a heavy foot lol. I pay for that at the pump. Premium for me as well.

What's you take on the Chevron techron fuel system cleaner? I've bought a six pack 3 years ago and used 3 bottles so far. I still have 3 bottles left.

Honestly, I have never used it personally. In Canada, they don't sell Chevron products locally to me, so I never got a chance. I have used various fuel systems cleaners and they seem to work well generally, some better than others, but couldn't say for Chevron

I'm having a problem with Husky Fuel - I've tested this 3 times. It will not start well. Seems to correct when I add another brand. (which was 91Shelll /hoping its E0.. ) no more husky for me ! If you have an issue like this ADD ethanol FREE (E0) since it absorbs water...or w/e ... & every now and then add ethanol free.. so that water isnt accumulating in your gas tank.

Thanks for posting this info. Interesting that you are seeing the same issues. I came to the same conclusion. The ethanol content is what was affecting my SUV. I made a final video (that hasn't been posted yet) that discusses that. I noticed Canadian Tire was working the best in my car, which had 0 ethanol content with 91 octane. (which, I noticed recently that are adding ethanol now). Thanks for the great feedback and tips.

@@NexusAuto about 6weeks ago I noticed they closed 2 stations here for a few days and were doing 'something' ..maybe they have some problem with the OLD tanks. I also noticed the same thing months and months ago..

@@crabbcake hmmm. interesting. I wonder what they're doing there. Very odd move, and the frequency is weird.

@@NexusAuto so Canadian tire 89 or higher is 5% ethanol (according to their website) I also tried 91husky same issue...but when I added 91 shell it improved.. so now I'm going to add some 89 cdn tire and see what happens)

@@crabbcake interesting. Fun fact is Canadian Tire snuck in the ethanol on me. Last year, it showed as 0% ethanol for 91. Now it shows it has ethanol content. The gas still performs well, but not quite as good as before. So I believe the ethanol makes a big difference in my car. What kind of car are you driving? Interested to see what make is being affected. Keep me posted on any other findings too
