From the Field -- E-flite Spitfire MkXIV Flight Review (The RC Geek)
Ғылым және технология
Here is my field review of the E-flite Spitfire MkXIV. I have really been enjoying this airplane, it's such a great flyer! I like that E-flite went for one of the more rare Griffon powered designs as I've always had a sweet spot for those Spitfires personally as they always appeared more streamlined to me. As mentioned last week, I'm using a 4s 3600 pack which provides killer power and killer flight times (this is the same setup as in the E-flite P-47). Just be sure to balance the prop if you go with 4s! I have a full review article with all of my control throws, CG info and Dx file download on my blog (thercgeek.com) at thercgeek.com/EFSpitfire

Hi Chris - The RC Geek That right wing, what a fright.! Luckily nothing bad happened (I hope so.!) Beautiful plane - Beautiful flight Spitfire and its Pilots : Great Heroes Battle of England.!
Awesomely awesome landing!! Greased it in spot on, gentle as a butterfly lands. My memory escapes me if I ever asked you about where that cool flying site is that you do most of your reviews? Is it members only with a locked gate? Would like to go out there someday and check it out.
I really like the sound and look of the 5 blade prop

Right?! I find that the airplanes I can't transport in one piece I don't fly all that much, haha
How do you determine the percentages of each control and expo too? Thanks for another great flying exhibition. I love all warbirds especially the large scale birds with radial engines.

Those are all adjustments made in the radio to tune the desired feel of the airplane in the air. I like to setup multiple rates so I have options and can select up or down if I need more or less rate while I’m tuning the airplane to my liking.
Thanks Chris! I've been sitting on the fence on this one but I may have to Click. I just purchased the Carbon Z T28 can't wait for it to arrive!

Hey Nice flight😄 but do the engine hold ? I got one my self, but I don’t want to break the engine, maybe a engine swap? To handle the increased voltage? Any opinion ? I’m going for the same battery size btw.

Yeah, the motor seems to do ok. The key is to use full throttle in bursts mostly. Extended periods could get it hot. I’ve been running it stock and it’s been fine.
Good looking and flying Spitfire,and the Mk XlV is a cool version! You should really watch who you hang with Chris,that young Mr.Hecht looks like a great kid,but that old guy,man I don't know,lol! Nice job guys!!

Is this a plane you would recommend for a beginner if not do you have a suggestion for me and my boys
@Thercgeek

This would be a good next step airplane. A dedicated trainer like the AeroScout from horizon hobby would be neat to start with. Also I recommend getting connected with a local club as the typically have flight instructors who can help you get started on the right foot. It makes a huge difference having someone help train you to fly rc.
Yeah.. awesome..!!
Hey Chris...you said you went to 4 cell, did you have to upgrade the ESC?

Nope, flying it bone stock. It has the same setup as the P-47 which I flew with the stock ESC also. So far, so good!

Nice Flying BROTHER. So I was reading the comments and heard you speak of the p 47. How do you like that plane and are you using 4 s in it also I may have a great deal on a second hand p 47 great video you fly alot like I do just better and at a nice air field. Nothing like that within 50 miles of my house. I need to move back to San Diego hang out with you 😉

Thanks man! The P-47 is a great flying airplane. I flew it on 4s also and it was a hoot! With the wide gear stance of the p-47, ground handling is a little easier than with the spit. This is my review on the jug: kzread.info/dash/bejne/npl1ydKKeZusZ7Q.html

I want to turn my Eflite Spit into a clipped wing!!!! How would one do this?
@Thercgeek

I'd recommend simply cutting the wing tips off with an exacto and then glueing a piece of foam or balsa at the tip and then sanding the rounded tip onto it.
How do I know what chargers are compatible with my batteries
@Thercgeek

Most chargers these days are multi function and charge almost any type of battery. The important thing to look for is that it is lipo battery capable.

I'm not actually a full hobby retailer, just a guy on YT trying to help folks out. That said, I do have shirts and some 3d printed aftermarket products on my website (thercgeek.com). If you're new to the hobby, the best way to get into it is by connecting with a local RC club to you. They typically have instructors and trainer aircraft specifically to get folks started out successfully.
Do you have to change the esc to fly 4s
@Thercgeek

I haven’t and it’s been fine. This has the same setup that’s in the p47 and my friend has been flying my old one I reviewed for a couple years now. I don’t think it’ll be an issue, but I’d recommend just keeping an eye on it.

You are NOT gonna believe this. I bought and built this plane when I first got into the sport. (Along with the Eflite P-51 Blondie and Dynam 1270mm Corsair) The Spitfire after the build got put in a different storage room in the basement. Honestly, forgot I had it. It feels like Christmas here. I’m anxious to see just how bad I did with the build and getting the Control Surfaces lined up. This build was back in the day when I’d watch your videos and think, “CG? Dual Rates? Expo? Flap Deflection? Why would I need to know that crap?!?! Chris must be a messenger of Satan...

@@Thercgeek it’ll be best if I take it apart and rebuild it. It was also my first experience with water slide decals. It won’t effect the flight quality, but it does look like it was assembled by Charles Manson or Jason the Ax Murderer.

Sweet touchdown, you were robbed!
Every video I have seen of this model landing, it tips over a wing-tip.. what is that all about..
@Thercgeek
4 жыл бұрын
The gear track is very narrow on the model which makes it tippy. as the airplane transitions down to the tail wheel on landing, the aero surfaces become ineffective, sometimes before the tail wheel is fully effective on the ground. So, if the landing wasn’t perfectly straight and corrective inputs are necessary, it can induce a tip strike. The model flies beautifully though!
