    Incredible! Your videos are so much better than service information! Or any manuals. You definitely get all the shots in your video to make your video make sense and easy to follow and give someone who has a bit of mechanical skills the confidence to properly do this very important job.

    Nice to see someone addressing that the factory master links on chains sometimes cannot be identified and that as long as you place the chains down and stretch them out you can make your own master links by coloring 2 links directly opposed. (this also helps if you soak original chains (low mileage) in purple power and the coating on masterlinks is dissolved) your replacement timing chain guide is also a pos plastic guide you should have purchased a kit with metal guides supports because the plastic breaking off is a common failure point. pulled timing chains and guides off thunderbird with 175k miles and they were tight when removed no slack very minimal wear on the plastic wear on guides and steel tensioners. going to reuse both chain and guide and tensioners because the guides had steel backing as well. good design no need to replace with cheap inferior kit like you did. I will modify the ratcheting arms on the iron tensioners prior to assembly.

    For someone planning on doing this and do not have the cam holding tools ? you can get away without having them by setting up the timing marks so cams are in correct place and then removing all the rockers. this will take tension off the cams so they will stay in place exactly were you put them.. once rockers are removed verify cam marks are correct then replace the chains and guides and then reinstall the rockers.

    i think that's the same motor in my 08 E250 4.6 2valve motor ,i had a broken intake spring on number one cylinder and i did not secure the cam .i replace the valve spring and reinstalled the cam sprocket in the keyway and now the engine is locked up from turning. now all though the cam moved only maybe an inch i was able to reinstall the sprocket back on by removing all the roller rockers then back on .now I'm lost what to do

    I hate the fact that you have to break the seal on your valve covers which adds to the cost of the work. Most don't know the valve cover bolts are a one-time use item and they will snap if you attempt to retighten them to spec. I opted for the Trick Flow valve cover kit, dollar for dollar it was worth it as Ford wanted almost $13 per valve cover bolt multiplied by however many you need and that's a lot of money for hardware. I'm not saying everyone will get this result, but one of mine broke and I opted for what was mentioned above. Great video for the overall task, you make it look easy.

    What happens if the tensioners are reversed, ie right on left side, left on right? I waist they had a “drivers” and “a passenger” side designation, as right and left depends on how you’re viewing. Form the drivers saet, or from the front of the engine. If one did have them reversed, would they not work properly? Thanks.

  • @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    @dannyjohnsonsgarage

    7 ай бұрын

    They do have L (left) and R (right) stamped on them. Left is the driver side as if sitting in the car. I don’t know that they would fit if reversed. They must have them that way for a reason if they went to the trouble to mark them that way.

    I WOULD ASSUME THAT THE FORD V6 4.0 SINGLE OVERHEAD CAM IS A DOWNSIZED VERSION OF THE 4.6 FORD MODULAR ENGINE. LIKE THE CHEVY V6 WAS TO THE OLD SMALL BLOCK V8. THE QUESTION HERE IS IF THE CHAINS, GUIDES AND TENSIONERS FOR THE FORD V6 THE SAME AS THE FORD V8 MODULAR ENGINE?.
