How to Build a Ford 5.4L 3V Engine - Part 2: Timing Set and Head Disassembly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today we are continuing our "How to Build a Ford 5.4L 3V Engine" series with part 2. Timing set, head removal and disassembly! This style of V8 is a little more involved than a conventional pushrod style V8 due to its overhead camshaft design. But don't worry I walk you through every step and show you exactly what you need to do! Thanks so much for watching!

So why does the manual say you need to have cylinder one at TDC? Whats that for if yiu just remove the whole cylinder head? Also when your reinstalling the head and the camshaft, lash adjusters, and cam followers yoi still didnt put number 1 cylinder at TDC. Does it even matter?

Just curious: does Sumit offer upgraded cam phasers? Since these do go out fairly frequently…

I have 2010 F150 Platinum same engine. 198,000 miles. Engine runs and sounds good. How long can i expect it to run well with good care ? I will most likely get remanufactured engine when it gets time. What kind of improvements should be done on these engines?

Quite sometime if it is taken care of with quality oil and filters ever 5k miles. These engines get a bad rap but honestly I think it's because of a lot of lazy owners not changing their oil. Thanks for watching!
