How to Build a Ford 5.4L 3V Engine - Part 1: First Disassembly

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Today it is my honor to welcome you to our next engine build! This series is showing you exactly how to rebuild the infamous Ford Modular Triton 5.4L 3V bolt by bolt! In this video I will show you how to place the engine on a stand and start taking it down to the block so it can be rebuilt. I hope you join me on this endeavor and I'm so excited to get started! Thank you to ‪@SummitRacing‬ for sponsoring this build!

Loving these videos, I have a 5.4 that I am going to start to rebuild so it’s great having these to watch first to make sure I know what I’m doing lol. Do you have a parts list for all the stuff you got for the rebuild?

Welders are cheap, I've got a MIG that I used to favricate a new shock mount on an old K1500, later bought a TIG and they both do stick. Can't wait until I get a hoist and stand.❤❤❤❤

A better way to get it out tap the dowel and screw a bolt into it orange to dowel and works great usually

It's a fabulous engine IF you fix the major factory issues before they shell the engine. I have an 07 with 82,000 miles. Just started a light ticking noise. Not sure which issue yet. Trying to decide…. Rebuild myself or order a remanufactures motor.

Could be a simple timing chain tensioner! 82k is pretty young, this engine had 184k and all that was really wrong with it was a tensioner. I could have replaced that and went along probably fine. BUT I didn't want to take any chances, I rely on this truck a lot. Thanks for watching!

If you wanted to increase efficiency on this engine, would blue printing and balancing reduce friction much? I’ve read that new heads made by performance shops can help a lot.

Efficiency? Nah. Efficiency won’t be changed any really unless you go super in depth with all the induction, cams, exhaust, and tune.

Even with it's problems it's better than the latest Ford release that has block leaks from the factory... Or most of the ecoboost engines that are eating turbos like they were candy.

I just bought a 5.4 3v with 343,000 miles it has a REALLY bad knock when it gets up to temperature but it stops knocking when you give it gas and it idle back down, anyone know what this could be?
