Last night on a bus home, three different Indians yammering away on their phones. I whistle to try and drown out the one closest to me. Up at the back of the bus a fellow begins; in an even better move, playing this on his phone to do the same. It's bittersweet; to say the very least, what the sound of 'Australia' is like now.

The first part is correct Tony about the name already in use by another group. The debut album was actually titled "Icehouse" and this is why they decided to go with it. The song "Icehouse" was only a minor hit and this one & "We Can Get Together" were more widely recognised.

Now I'm older, I am awed by the talent of the band, the musicianship, songwriting. Icehouse were one of the very best of the new wave/punk era in Oz. So glad to have grown with them. 🩷🩷
Watched this awesome rock band play at Mornington Racecourse (Feb, 2024, Red Hot Summer Tour) sounded just perfect ! - So glad I have heard this live now !

Absolutely quality tune. I grew up in early 80s when my old mum and dad played records every nite before we all went to bed. This tune brings back memories. Icehouse were so underrated
Addiction.. is the affliction I can interpret this tune 6 ways of Sunday. Truth is I dig it.
Great 80's sound! Thank you, Ice House, for this masterpiece ❤
At first I hated the song when I heard it on countdown but the next week I loved it something in the beat of the music 😮
I remember when I was 6 my dad put this on and I loved it so much that I still love it to this day
very good album award winning in 1980
I remember listening to my brother singing along to this. I thought he was so cool ;)
First live band i ever saw.1981,Festival Theatre Adelaide supported by Paul Kelly and the Dots and a new wave synth duo called Nuvo Bloc
Aussie rock in the 80s, you can't beat it, top song, I can relate 😊

One of my favourites from my childhood. This song is so clever. The music goes round and round in changing keys. It effectively reflects the lyrics....he really can't himself!!!
2024 I never get tired of this song!!!❤

I will neverrrrrrrrr everrrrrrr forget this song the best everrrrrrrrrr back and still now 👍😃😃😃
Australia is so much different in music today I’m 14 but I like the good old days Edit* 15
Their best song by miles and i love it. " I think im making it up, i should be putting it down and it's beginning to show, i get a fix in my head and i can't let go.... Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh " !!!!! How could you not live this song!!
Need this on permanent repeat - I can't help myself
When I get this way, I wanna be someone else...if I had seen this in 1980 I would have been on a plane to Australia and I would have stalked Iva until they threw me in jail. Or until he married me. Whatever. We're all old now, but I can't help myself from listening to this song over and over and over...
The Golden Age of Aussie Rock.
80's aussie pop is a genre in itself. still amazing decades later

Ok, I'm going to admit this here - I am from the UK and I am sure safe to say that from a decade I didn't exist in, something obviously went wrong when record companies in the UK didn't want this band. Flowers was actually owned by another group on an international basis. So they had to get another name. they picked the name of their biggest hit "Icehouse." Remember this from back int he 70's when I was a big fan in the US. I have both versions of their 1st album
@debbyjones3348

The first part is correct Tony about the name already in use by another group. The debut album was actually titled "Icehouse" and this is why they decided to go with it. The song "Icehouse" was only a minor hit and this one & "We Can Get Together" were more widely recognised.

Icehouse/The Flowers music never gets old but damn man this track is too legendary to even fathom?!
