Lyrics:
Funny how I find myself in love with you
If I could buy my reasoning I'd pay to lose
One half won't do
I've asked myself, how much do you
Commit yourself
It's my life, don't you forget
It's my life, it never ends (It never ends)
Funny how I blind myself, I never knew
If I was sometimes played upon, afraid to lose
I'd tell myself, what good you do
Convince myself
It's my life, don't you forget
It's my life, it never ends (It never ends)
I've asked myself, how much do you
Commit yourself?
It's my life, don't you forget
Caught in the crowd, it never ends
It's my life, don't you forget
Caught in the crowd, it never ends
It's my life, don't you forget
Caught in the crowd, it never ends

This wonderful 80s song blends so great with stunning pictures of the natural world. The Eagle soaring the Leopard chilling and the Oryx galloping, so beautiful.
RIP, Mark Hollis. You have millions that mis you. I am sure glad your children, and the rest of the world, have your music to remember you by.
I didn't realize how lucky I was to be a teenager in the 80s. Best era for music.

RIP Eric Vaughn Allen. 11/19/97 to 02/13/24. He loved this song. ❤️ He took his own life, and it has devastated me and his family. He loved going to Walmart and going out to eat. But, he was just as happy staying at home and eating noodles. His departure was sudden. But, he'd been battling depression for years and suicidal ideation. We feel as if we've failed him. He loved animals. Especially cats. He loved his computer. I write this in memory of him. On his favorite song. I will always love and miss him. I can't wait to see him in heaven. He's finally at peace, with his kitties that passed away.

Korin. Sweet memories of your beloved friend. To whom you loved and miss dearly. Please understand the depression your friend suffered was something that he wasn't responsible for. Neither are you Korin or his family. It's a chemical . When not depressed their known as sensitive, insightful. The other side of the coin. Please forgive what your friend did. As it was also a selfish act. Leaving his friends and loved ones. To not only mourn. But to feel guilty? I doubt very much you did anything wrong. Honor your friend by moving on living your life. I don't think people really get the "meaning" of this song so much as they could theorize in scope to what it's all about. The message is both complex and simple. Simple because it's about the general life of everything and it's right to exist, as well and contextually complex to the nature of humans and our place among life around us as being observers to it, alien almost. The juxtaposition and the subtle hints and nods are quite telling though. Happy to know it's the original and not that other one that was made later on. Almost reminds me of that song Life's What You Make It in a way.

What a powerful fucking song. The way the verse and chorus contrast with each other, and that single chord at the end of the last line of the verse that bridges the two and signals a change of tone... just phenomenal songwriting. Every aspiring writer of pop songs should take note of what this song does right.

Nicely said. The reason why this chord has such a big emotional impact is because it performs a modulation (from Eb to E). Modulations are such a fundamental composition technique, it is hard to understand why they almost completely disappeared in today's popular music. But who knows, judging by the success of "Leave the Door Open", maybe there will be a comeback.

So true !!! I would have loved to hear Mark Hollis explained how he wrote this masterpiece. Sounds like everything is turning around the bass line (and what a bass line...it fills you up with all emotions you can feel) so I presume bass line was the spine of the melody
This song never gets old and it will always be a timeless classic. I always love the 1980s music. 1980s, 1990s and 2000s are my favourite decades for music. I am listening to it from Ireland 🇮🇪
