It is for late night driving. When I came back from California it was a 10 hour flight to Heathrow and I didn’t sleep at all on the flight. I got in the car and this song came on the radio as I was going up the motorway back home and it was the perfect song to drive home to jet lagged.

Yes because western societies were rich back then, since 80s they are sliding in poverty mainly due to the greed of corporations whom started to produce east. Western societies especially and also other area in the world produce less art and culture if not became sterile.

How beautiful this song was in the 80s. Yet in 2024 it is more meaningful and poetic

I think this song will be timeless probably forever. I can't believe it's already 34 years old. So many years have passed, I wasn't even born back then but yet...This is a timeless masterpiece. One of the greatest songs ever made in all of human history. It sounds like a lullaby, which has been elevated by the synth pads. The drum pattern invites you to dance but the backing vocals and ambience are almost too cerebral. So you just stand there in utter shock at how stunning this song is.

My mom used to play Depeche Mode in the car (along with bauhaus, sisters of Mercy, and the occasionally lady Gaga song lol) and this song has such a nostalgic vibe to me

I'm glad at how many people are listening to this type of song in 2024

RIP Andy "Fletch" Fletcher. He wasn't the main singer of the group like Dave Gahan or the main songwriter like Martin Gore but he was the backbone to keep the band going throughout their 40 years they performed together during their best and worst times around.

Depeche Mode is such a great band and so underrestimated amongst rock bands. What started as an electric pop band really evolved in one of the great rock bands of the last decades. And my God yes what a singular and great voice. I would love your input on the first video of my first album. Fun fact: Last night as I lay in bed watching House of Versace, a very fat moth flew into my bedroom window. I located the moth by noticing a loud pecking sound against the walls and ceiling. It was trying to find its way out, apparently. So, I didn’t kill the moth. I gave it a chance to leave as I continued watching the movie. After finishing the movie I played one last song before bed. People are People by Depeche Mode. When I woke up the next morning the moth was gone. I’m assuming it didn’t die and fall behind some furniture😎

Heard this song today for the first time today (May 6th, 2024) and I'm in love with it! Such a brilliant melody, and being an introvert, the lyrics speak to me. My favourite line is "Words are very... unneccessary." Need to get more of Depeche Mode now, glad I discovered them❤

Something about this song has adhered to me since it's release. I'm 66 now. No less meaning over time. Superb composition. No time frame... ...and I never really cared for DM... Until recently. New perspective over time, and wisdom gained.

Hi I recommend a new indie song called 'Looking Into The Mirror' By Robert Nix

You can tell how much a song moves you. I'm a 64 year old man and when this song came out, I was blown away. I actually did this at a karaoke last year. I'm not a great singer by any means, but I can carry a tune. LOL. Anyway, I had the crowd at the pub up dancing. I was quite flattered. My son and daughter were there with their mates and my wife. It was my birthday and I had a few. This is the only reason why I got up. We had a lot of fun.

Funny thing, I was never really a Depeche Mode fan or a New Order fan but their songs always seemed to be part of the soundtrack of my life. I don't know if that makes any sense but they always seemed to be there in an unobtrusive sort of way.

My career as a songwriter and music producer wouldn't had started without me falling in love with this song and the album Violator when I was a kid. I fell in love with the sound. I fell in love with the lyrics. I am now an accomplished sound engineer partly because of my love for Depeche Mode. This band means more than just music to me. And 30 years later I still think this is the most beautiful song ever written.

It'd sweep all the awards if it came out yesterday. Not as much high-level competition these days (greedy music industry execs' fault rather than the artists themselves, of course). They simply don't have the production and promotion budgets that used to be commonplace.

I’m only 24, my parents used to listen to depeche mode in my childhood. This song means a lot to me, everytime I listen to it I have goosebumps and tears in my eyes. Because this melody feels like hope. Like all the good things are still yet to come. And that everything I really need I have here in my arms… Masterpiece ❤️

Wish I could hear it the way it sounded in the 80s. I like Depeche Mode but this song just sounds very 80s to me, though I think some of the melodies would still fly. It’s the synths bouncing around everywhere that my ears doesn’t like. Haven’t listened to it with headphones tho so, maybe just sonics.

This masterpiece never gets old.

I can’t understand how music can be that good! I am in my 20s and have a total different taste of music, but I have goosebumps and I feel something I have never felt whenever I hear this song.

Not surprised. This was/is the song for me & my furry cat son (Blinky), but we were separated while I was in a compromised state. The pain is excruciating and my arms still feel empty. I had no reason or will to continue until he came into my life, he gave me peace and meaning and a sense of being tethered to this earth. The lyrics fit very well for a parent experiencing the fulfilling connection with a child. Words are truly unnecessary for something so indescribable, and I’m usually the most exhaustively wordy person I know. Being with my little boy settled my mind, allowed me to simply “be”.

The One Who Broke My Heart. . .this was one of his comfort songs. One of the songs he needed to hear every day in order to feel ok. When he abandoned me, after getting a new phone I listened to his comfort songs and they broke my heart.

The entire Violator album was something special. Still a regular on my playlists.

80s and early 90s was the best music of all time. Night clubs during those years was absolutely the best. The girls just seemed to pop up everywhere. Smiles and kindness was all a growing young man needed. I’m almost 50 now and can still feel the youth while driving on a warm summer night listening to 80/90s music.

My grandmother said nothing can compare to the 1920's (she was in her 30's) for music, fashion, lifestyle, etc., even though she was relatively poor. I guess every generation feels that way about the music of their youth.

Been knocked down now, its a swanky apartment building now! Was always a fan of electro and pop. Some songs have an infinite class about them. This is 1 of them
