Flipping a $300 Facebook Hardtail (Flip Bike EP2)
Спорт
In this episode of Flip Bike, we answer an ad on Facebook Marketplace from a dad looking for a mountain bike for his daughter. With a few days to build her a bike, we find a GT hardtail and improve it as much as possible, trying to stay within budget. Can we sell it?

I’m 26 years old and have that exact same GT Aggressor Pro and made all those exact same upgrades on my bike. (Even took the same stickers off my wheels to make it look more grown up) I was so stoked and feeling confident seeing it all come together just like my bike! Reassured me that I made the right choice. But then all those good feelings were thrown right out the window at the end when you gave it to an 8 year old little girl and made it apparent that I must be riding a children’s bicycle… 😂

I’m honestly not stoked he charged a young girl and father almost $700 for a gt aggressor pro. That bike is $400 brand new and all he did was swap out some used parts. Seems like $650 was a bit of a stretch. Especially for Seth he doesn’t need to actually make a profit on this series.
@dvs620
2 жыл бұрын
@@reboundrides8132 Bike is $500 at Dick's Sporting Goods. The fork and 1x upfront take that bike to $650. Add all the other parts, even used and you got yourself something that would cost more, even accounting for depreciation if they had done it themselves to a new bike. I bought a 2019 GT Avalanche Sport for $400 a few months ago. I'm going to replace the fork, headset, wheels, pedals, grips and tires soon. For the normal price of the bike, it's not worth it. But considering a new GT Avalanche Sport with a 2x (vs a 1x that I have on it) is $875, I have the credit built into the bike to do all that and still come out cheaper than a new one with better components. That's what Seth did, sold them a bike that, while more expensive than a brand new one, would cost much more than they paid if they had bought the components themselves, even at used prices, and upgraded a new bike. And they're not getting a new bike with an air fork and 1x drivetrain for $650 or less.

Nice that the dad actually mentioned how his daughter intended to ride the bike. I remember looking to buy a bike with my dad, I wanted a mountain bike, he thought the "mountain" aspect of it was just for show. So as we went through the bike shops, he would tell the sales person that "we were looking for a bike I could ride to and from school". Somehow ended up with an entry level mountain bike in the end, but it was close. Wouldn't be surprised if he woulda bought a cruiser if I hadn't spoke up

Hi Seth, love this series of videos. If you’ve ever seen any of my former posts, you’ll know that I’ve been building and repairing bikes from $50 to multi thousands for many many years. It’s fun to watch you transform these bikes. So…this is the second video I’ve seen you do one particular thing, that in all of my years and professional experience, is a no-no. Square-tapered bottom brackets do not get grease on the spindles. With only 4 contact points, over time it will round out the crank arm square hole. Give it time and it will happen every time. And not even years and years, but much less. If someone rides a lot, it won’t take too terribly long at all. I also understand that it happens no matter what, but grease in that one spot will definitely speed up the process. I’m not criticizing you by any means, I love everything that you do. Just passing on a tip from an old man who’s been doing this since the first Stumpjumpers were all the rage. How far we’ve come. These days you can spend close to $20,000 for a super top tier bike. Wow! You make me wish I still lived in Hendersonville.
Super cool series, I actually find watching this more satisfying than some pro build with a bunch of fancy stuff and an unlimited budget. Way more challenging and rewarding to build a bike that’s fit fot purpose at a tight budget. My bike has a set of xt levers on it that I took from the garbage bin because the blades were bent. I bent them back and now they are among my favourite parts on this bike..

You make it all look so easy! Nice skills!
Seth I've followed you for a long time now, and I'm loving this series you're doing. You really pull the format off well.
I'm loving this new series! Go on Seth! 😁
I have a GT Aggressor Pro just like that! Thanks for putting the part links in the description.
The best part.... You were a major contributor in helping to get another mountain biker on the trail!! You never know, she could be the 2030 World Cup Champion. No doubt she is now the envy of her "riding buddies" AND made a cameo appearance on Berm Peak to boot. Nice work, Seth!!
dude, that's fking awesome! gotta keep supporting the young riders like her! i love seeing people who are really passionate about getting into trail riding and stuff :)))
