I have an idea to take this series to the next level! Instead of just doing one off flips, you should start with $500 or something and try to flip your way to buying an eBike! Each time you sell a bike, that is then your budget to get the next bike and keep reinvesting your profits until you can get the dream bike.

Not a bad idea, but - oh boy - this is where flipping bikes could easily start to appear really not so profitable, especially for folks with a less legit shop setup to streamline the work. I've "made money" flipping a few bikes, but with the time I put it's only justifiable if you enjoy the time spent (which of course I do) - basically view it as a hobby that makes some money/supports itself and you can't lose.

That stuff is great for adhesive residue and kitchen grease, too. Used it to clean the fans in a range hood once and it blazes through gunk.

This is your most brilliant series yet. Motivating a whole generation to tinker with bikes. That’s how I grew up and it’s served me well.

Love this series. I love seeing work done on bikes. It's what got me started watching Seth's bike hacks back when I was upgrading my big box mongoose and ultimately bought a frame only trek and moved all my upgraded parts and some more new parts over to it

The only issue I have with this series is that it desperately makes me wish I had a workspace that I could use to fix up my bikes but my apartment only has enough for bare minimum. Awesome series!!

Buy a stand alone bike stand for around £50 and a very cheap table cloth for around £5. Spend a little money on tools or just borrow some from a friend and you have a space that you can work on bikes!! I have built a custom bike in my bedroom with virtually the same stuff, and if you check out Seth's earlier videos, you will notice just how small his area for working on bikes is!

@@user-ln8ko7df7p yes😂 a multi tool only costs like £15 for a somewhat decent one, and a small pump costs around the same. Spoons are really tire levers in disguise! You can find a lot of tools for dirt cheap at charity or antique shops which will do the job. Or chances are if you have ever put together some furniture, you will have the Allen keys which come with it! The bare minimum will do for bikes, and tbh you dont really need all the high end tools unless you are working on bikes all day every day!

Let's say this took 8 hours over 2 days to get done. If you price yourself at $18/hr, which is kind of a sustainable income in most of the USA, you will have just broken even.

I seem to have subscribed to this channel totally by accident, didn't even know I'd done it until I started to get notifications about new videos 😳 Glad I did. Seems like such a genuine guy with a passion for what he's doing. It's always great to find these types of channels, they're much better than the more "official" types that take themselves too seriously. Such a good sense of humour too 👏 👌

When he said $450 I was genuinely shocked, with a the frame cleaned up like that and shiny parts I think he could easily have asked $600 and sold for ~$550.

The casette and derailer from the last 2 videos are way above the value your list them for! If you can show me a 10s cassette, chain and derailer for 35 USD, send me couple of those please! Also, please list the hours of work you have spent on the repairs. Market value for components+ hours of work as cost estimate would make the whole series even more enjoyable! My guess is: he already has them laying around. So this isn't what the cost of that part is in a shop, it's about the value of that specific part for him. And he still gets to keep the old part, that might get used in a way older bike somewhere down the road?

This bike looks really good. I'm glad you kept the original colours and paint and just clearcoated it. The black pedals are also nice. It's a bike that doesn't scream "look at me". I'm sure the new owner will be quite happy. Got me thinking about a second hand Kona hardtail myself now!

Great series! The value of the used pieces should be adjusted to a “new price on the current market” so all of us with out spare parts can see the real cost or upgrading our used bikes into solid rides.

Not sure though, you can wait for used parts but it could take a while. Maybe he should do two lists, one with his cots and maybe one with brand new. But it doesn’t make sense to do brand new list, when your on a budget.

Best one so far in the series, very much feels more ‘real’ build. Having done something similar back her in UK during lockdown and restrictions. For me it was about saving many bikes from being trash, and giving people something they could jump on and ride.

Man seeing this series I realize how lucky I have been with my patience and watching Marketplace. Picked up a 2011 Giant Rapid 3 for $150 that was very well loved, my local bike shop said I stole it after the inspection it only needed a new chain and nothing else! My newest one is a Motobecane Fantom Trail DS full suspension that was $320, it needed a new front tube and rim truing, as well as a standard tune up. So right about $400 total and the bike is ready for anything this amateur can throw at it. Thank you for all the continued content, I started riding with friends about 20 months ago and your channel is one of 3 that really got me hyped for getting back into the sport.

Love these flip bike episodes, something about watching some random dude on the internet repair a bike is so relaxing... Keep doing what you do Seth!

Yes, this is why I think his cost are on the low end. He won't be putting a 3x on any bike so unless he sells it separately, it holds no value. So the price of the parts is actually higher

I've tried this myself and flipping bikes does work good. The most money I made on 1 bike was 450 euros. After a few tries you get a pretty good eye for it and for the price. I believe Seth could've sold it for 500-600 bucks.

I really appreciate these types of videos. I used to mountain bike when I was a kid. But I got out of it. I still own my 06/07 Trek Fuel 70. Its a medium frame. I'm guessing we bought it while I was still expected to grow... turns out, my body decided 5'4 was the best height and I should be on a small frame. I'm slowly getting back into the game. Seeing 1. the prices of these new bikes, and 2. not knowing if I'm really going to go hardcore into this sport again, I appreciate the fact that you are showing the audience that you don't have to have the top of the line equipment to get rolling. Eventually, I'd like to get a bike that fits me better. But I'll ride this until I decide if upgrading is worth it. Thanks for sharing some inspiration!

I would say the time you put into the flip bike is priceless. I have never got a bicycle that is tuned up and ready to use.

It would be nice to see at the end when you go over the cost of everything if you also put how much time you invested into updating the bikes.

Great work Seth. I would appreciate a breakdown of labour hours committed to the project. So that we could see what you ‘hourly rate’ was while working on the project. Of course, you would ignore videography/interview time etc.

@@lukepws-skiandmtb1122 I cant remember any brands in particular, all I remember was using some during a college course about cars. im sure its common enough to find one that works though. im sure the known brands like meguires or autoglym will have them. (I THINK my college used autoglym, but i cant say for sure)

Seth, I rewatch these old flip bike videos because I like working on my old bikes and your videos inspired me. I wish you would continue this series. I have upgraded a 2006 Santa Cruz 26er Heckler and my 1987 Giant ATX-780 hardtail both with TRP disk brakes, new Rock Shox Recon air forks and SRAM NX/GX 1 x12 drivetrains with wider bars and shorter stems and they are both a blast to ride.
