Those hairs are actually known as "Vent Spews" They allow gas to escape during the vulcanization process in making the tires. While rubber is being injected or pressed into the mold, there is a risk of air bubbles forming between the rubber and the mold, which can prevent the rubber from getting in all the intricate patterns of the mold, thus producing a malformed tire.

The rubber tire "whiskers" are primarily for night riding. The additional sensory input gives the rider the ability to avoid trees and other dangerous obstacles due early warning and detection. Obviously, you would need to buy the additional Bluetooth integration between the tire sensors and the skin on your neck and face.

Love this kind of thing. Keeping the stoke alive one bike/rider at a time..! I still have my original department store hardtail; I’ve kept it as a loaner for friends(new friends)interested in joining me out on the trails. Its a good bike too(GT Aggressor)...the frame is the only thing left stock...lol. It has been thrashed but always taken care of. Its actually served to keep me honest on upgrades for my ripper(also a hard tail...hard tails only!) And it also serves as my daily driver for town errands etc. You gotta remind yourself that bikes are just bikes; its the stoke they create thats so amazing!
@5:25 Seth runs into a "snag" because he assumed the original cassette would be a SRAM cassette. That cassette actually _may well be a SRAM cassette_ , but it doesn't really matter - all Shimano _and_ SRAM 10 speed cassettes fit to the Hyperglide ("Shimano-style") freehub standard. I'm guessing he was expecting to find an XD freehub body underneath, but I don't think any 10 speed system ever used these. At 11-speed, freehub standards began to diverge more between the two brands, but even some of SRAM's lower-end lines still fit to HG freehubs. Box Components was another brand still designing for the HG hubs.
"Framed Bikes" is actually owned by a board shop called "the House" in St. Paul MN. I'm actually one of the techs who works on and assembles these. Awesome to see one here.

Last year Some local kids were tinkering with an old bike a farmer gave them. (They were riding down his track. But they didn't have enough bikes for all of them) it was rusted and seized up. I rode past and gave them some tips. When I got home I raided my parts bin and took them a load of parts. A year later ALL the youths rode to my house (my parts looked good on their bikes, it looks like they took parts from their bikes and upgraded everyones bike and used the olde parts to fix up the first werck) with another wreck. I was so happy with all their work I've just emptied my parts bin and a load of spare tools and let them have free reign. I can't see what they look like in our woods over the next few months
