Fish sauce is an amazing ingredient! Besides the regular way we use it in Asian cooking, I also put a splash into my pasta sauce when seasoning at the end (not too much - you don't want it to become too fishy). I also use it in replacement of anchovies when preparing caesar salad dressing.

@@leafster1337 yep, itis really similar to "garum" and "colatura d'alici"
In Italy we have something called "colatura di alici" that's practically the same thing, and it's something that's comes all the way from the time the Romans made "garum". We usually use it especially in a part of Italy called "costiera Amalfitana" as a condiment for pasta
Fish sauce is amazing, I used it in vegetables stir-fry as well!
i love to add it to my steamed egg dish to give it that nice deep rich umami flavor! better than salt! i’ve also added it to a garlic and butter pasta dish, super yummy!
Now that I'm back working on site, I have less time to watch YT videos. These shorts are perfect. Thank you so much, Randy and family.
I love the way it boosts flavor. I do like to let it sit or cook it a bit to mellow out the flavor a bit.
I make pho and Vietnamese Caramel Salmon using fish sauce. Trying to find other uses for it now. Thanks for teaching us!
Fish sauce everything 😋 yummy!
i sometimes use it when making leftover -food fried rice, but it usually makes the entire apartment smell like the ocean, so i usually don't actually cook with it, but rather making a sauce with sugar, lemon, garlic and chili to eat with rice noodles, rice or a vietnamese cheong fan called bánh cuốn
I'm Vietnamese and daddy Lau is right. We put fish sauce on EVERYTHING.
I put fish sauce in all my soups. It's awesome in French onion soup. I put it in congee. Also, tomato based pasta sauce.
It’s great as an ingredient in dipping sauces with chili paste, rice vinegar and sesame oil.
I love using fish sauce to make garlic noodles! Butter, garlic, parmesan, fish sauce, oyster sauce.
I used fish sauce in my Asian soup dishes like asparagus and crab meat soup, Tom yum, and many other tasty Asian dishes.
How do you like to use fish sauce? Me: yes
I'll use it for salt in my tomato sauces, instead of anchovies. Absolutely delicious and game changing. Sometimes I'll just smell it to wake up in the morning.
Everytime I saw this video. I'm drooling 😍😍😍
Eat fish sauce with everything... spaghetti, noodles, and filipino type stew/ Kari dishes. alot of my fish sauce is used to for viet & filipino cooking. Fish sauce with vinger and chilli goes soo well with bbq or tapas hahaha. Btw I'm from Australia and now for the 1st time Australia has it's own fish sauce made and owned by a Vietnamese family soo thankful and proud of them lol.

"Raw", as in just sprinkle some directly from the bottle onto the rice (hot or cold), mix it up a bit and there's dinner. And most of the time it simply replaced salt in our cooking.
love to hear about how fish sauce metabolizes in the heat of the soup!!!! I’m also wonder whether the addition of cream before the fish sauce changes anything, I can only assume it might 😮
I use fish sauce on salads. The salty taste goes well with fresh vegetables.
As a Vietnamese, I can tell that you’re das is a wise man. 👍🏽
Key for Vietnamese summer roll
My dad likes to put chilli peppers in a jar of fish sauce and we eat it with stuff like soup noodles. It's rlly good and you can keep it for a long time.
I recommend Son Fish Sauce or Red Boat. Both are better than 3 Crabs, although Son is my favorite.
Dipping sauce Nước Chấm, great for just about anything.
I put fish sauce in my marinara sauces. Lots of recipes call for anchovies but I found a small amount 1 tsp works really well. Love these videos! Does you father make zongi (粽子)?
Like it as a condiment
As Vietnamese it is hard to avoid fish sauce. Even when im making egg fried rice lol, it goes well with soy sauce but fish sauce added that flavor that i wanted
Since u ask how... I also use fish sauce + a little sugar with my diced fresh tomatoe as a dip for my fried fish...😊
I’m Chinese Vietnamese and I love fish sauce .

I like using a little in a stir fry for a deeper taste
This brand of fish sauce is the best. I only buy this brand. It is more expensive than other brands, but it worth the money.
I have been using regular fish sauce from the supermarket. Someone told me that I needed to try Squid brand fish sauce, so I got a bottle of it at the Asian market. I'll have to try and see if it makes a difference.
I put a little on all my dishes before plating
Can someone tell me whether 'fish sauce' is actually fermented fish? Or is it made of fermented beans and to be used on fish cooking? Thank you.

It's fermented fish. It needs about one year to mature in big wooden tanks before it becomes the clear liquid that you see at the store. We also have another version for people with "strong stomach": "mắm nêm". You can actually see the fish in there.
3 crabs is the best!
What is in fish sauce? Fish?
I hate anything "fish" but holy heck this sauce adds dimensions to flavor 100% WIN
2 main sauce that every Asians kitchen must Have!
Go Hong Konger!

Yes it's salty, sour, and funky (fermented). But like salt, it's not meant to be consumed on its own. To make dipping sauce, my rule of thumb is to make a sweet lemonade (water, sugar, lemon) and then add fish sauce to taste :)
I'll stick with soy sauce!
unfortunately as with chinese parents, you get nagged about the correlation between fish sauce and cancer
VietNamese fish sauce is WAY too sweet. Buy “Squid Brand” made in Thailand. AND NO, IT DOES NOT CONTACT N SQUID.
Why is it called fish sauce and how is it made
Fish sauce way more umami than soy sauce
