Hi all welcome back to another video Dereck Reacts back at it again! This time around we take a look at a PATREON request with an 80s hit to my ears Mécano and their song "Hijo de la Luna." An amazing song with a great vocalist Ana Torroja, and catchy chorus. A dark song with interesting lyrics, but pleasing to the ears.

Dios, otra de sus canciones que me encanta también es Naturaleza Muerta El intro que decía Ana Tortoja Cuando vas al mar y ves la rica que es golpeada por las olas, la espuma que cae por la roca son las lágrimas de Ana, que como la roca aún espera por Miguel
That song was a staple of Spanish lessons for my generation in France. Three years in a row we had to study it, with different teachers, each one thinking they were the first ones to do it ( and the Crìas Cuervos movie too…)

Los 80 fueron muy buenos para la música en general en el mundo y aquí en España fueron una explosión.

Great song very famous in France, both versions, french and spanish. And Dereck we are not finicky, we are passionate ! 😉😆😆😆😘
One of my favourite Mecano songs is "Me cuesta tanto olvidarte", but the funniest one is "No es serio este cementerio". They also wrote the non-official anthem for the Spanish New Year's Eve, "Una noche más". Nice reaction!

Esta canción esta compuesta por uno de los hermanos Cano, por Jose María Cano, que es el que se ve tocando el piano. Años después convirtió esta canción en una ópera maravillosa de la cual tengo el cd, cantada por Montserrat Caballé y cantantes españoles de ópera de talla internacional. Imagínate esta canción a nivel sinfónico, es una obra de arte que ha pasado muy desapercibida.

Yes, this was a band that started in the 80s ... very famous for many years, finally they broke up and Ana started singing in solitary in 1998. They have some fantastic songs together and Ana too. Thanks for your reaction to this legendary spanish band. A kiss from Andalusia❤️😘

Mecano changed the pop music in Spanish forever. Their lyrics and the complexity of their compositions thanks to the virtuoso Nacho Cano have no comparison. Hijo de la Luna is a masterpiece of the music in Spanish language and for this reason, it is timeless.

Mecano was so freaking famous in the 80’s in every Spanish speaking country and Europe. They were EVERYWHERE. Reading the comments I see that they were very popular in France, now I understand when we traveled to France back in 2018 we were watching a French TV special that was dedicated to Mecano.
I remember this song from my childood. Immortal
Beautiful song which is well translated and sung in French. A total success.

Great souvenir ! I studied this song during my Spanish Lessons. When mécano wrote the lyrics their source of inspirarion was the great spanish poet federico garcia lorca. But my favorite single of mécano Is: el blues del esclavo. Thank you dereck !

@@janahcoaching Thank you for your reply ! I know there is no graphic accent. Mecano is a Spanish name. My mobile phone writes the graphic accent automaticaly and I am so lazzy to change it each time.

You make my day today!!! Mecano is my all time favorite band. They released their first album in 1982 when I was 10 years old and I've been a huge fan ever since. With only six studio albums, Mecano is still the best selling Spanish band with over 25 million records worldwide.
It's in this version that it was presented for the first time in France in 1986; before Mecano offers a French version a little later. And that's also how I prefer it "in its own juice". This song is much more beautiful in Spanish than in French. And yet I don't speak Spanish and am French. I was sure you'd say "Jeanne Mas" :)

This beautiful song by "Mecano" was a great success in Chile too ... The lyrics tell the story of a magical pact that a young gypsy girl makes with the Moon to get the love of a gypsy boy ... This legend with a tragic ending had such an impact on my 80s childhood that later, during my university years (in the 90s), it was the inspiration for a stop-motion video that I made for a class and with which I and my classmates obtained an excellent grade 😁😂 ... Unfortunately this video was lost along with many other of my archives from that time.😏😁

hey good choice as well, they have sucess in France at the beginning of the 90's . Yes they have multiple albums with record sales in their own countries! "Une femme avec une femme " is their biggest sucess in France n°1 IN 1991 . it exists first in in a spanish version . So godd to watch! :)

I first discovered Mecano on French radio when I was a teen with french versions of this song & Une femme avec une femme. Then bought a best of with a few others in french and most important their songs in Spanish. Now those are my favourites.

Years later Jose Maria Cano wrote an opera Luna and it was played just once. Mecano was an incredible group and now on days still being one of the Top Group in Spain (music, songs, singer...) I hope you liked it. Try "Cruz de Navajas"

Hey I'm one of the french viewers, I love this song of Mecano a lot (both the spanish and french version). I grew up with both of those on the radio as well as Mujer contra mujer (in french une femme avec une femme). I hope some people here will recommend some nice Mecano songs that I can discover. I think the tragic story told in this song appears even sadder thanks to the talent of the group, especially the voice of the lead singer. I think it's one of the reasons I always enjoy listening to it.

La versión en francés "Di-moi lune d'argent.Hijo de la luna",junto con la versión "Une femme avec une femme "(Mujer contra mujer),vendieron 2 millones de copias y tienen el récord de permanencia en el número 1.8 semanas consecutivas.🤩

The song first appeared in the 1986 album ENTRE EL CIELO Y EL SUELO and was then re issued in the french edition of DESCANSO DOMINICAL in 1988. But the french version of the song and the video, even for Spain were made in 1990

I LOVE Ana’s voice, I grew up listening to her back in Mexico. Btw Spanish people aren’t “latinos” , latinos are people from latín América, however people from Spain are considered “Hispanic” here in the states.
Aw, I wish you'd reacted to a truly live performance by Mecano (the early 1990s live performances of the song are amazing), this was lipped for TV. Mecano were EVERYTHING in Spanish pop all through the 1980s to mid 1990s. I recommend live performances of Aire or Una rosa es una rosa.
This song has been sung by many artists throughout the years since it first came out. It is a very unique and beautiful song. Mecano was very big in the 90's. I recommend that you research other songs, like mujer contra mujer , Aidalai, cruz de navajas. A big Spanish band from the 80's and 90's and broke up a while back. Look them up and you will be surprised. :-} BTW, I subscribed.

My brother used to manage a record store early 90s and would get free sample CDs from the store. I got a Mecano CD then that I liked a lot. I was into 80s New Wave and music like Duran Duran and Mecano sounded like Spanish new Wave to me. Loved their sound! Please listen to the Arcadia "So Red the Rose" album. Very Artsy!

Mecano is probably the most successful pop group in the history of Spanish pop music. The had many hits in Spaing. Almost their entire discography is well known by Spanish audience. Techno, electronic, orchestral, flamenco and all the styles you can imagine. The song-writers of the songs are Cano brothers (that's why they are called Mecano) and their rivalry as composers was quite big. It made them create a lot of good songs. In fact, they are part of the group, the femail is Ana Torroja. A singer with a very peculiar voice. Give a chance for example to Mujer contra Mujer (Number 1 in Spain and France).
