Most of Mecano great songs are because of the content of the lyrics. they really tell things in a storytelling way, some times with real depth and conflict. Without understanding the lyrics, I think the songs are quite average.

No quiero aguar la fiesta, pero esta canción no está basada en ninguna leyenda gitana. Nació, creció y vive para siempre en el cerebro de José María Cano, que dedicó más de 20 años a completar el relato con su ópera "Luna". Que aún hoy es el disco de bel canto en español más vendido de la historia. En la ópera, el niño ha crecido y vive nuevas aventuras. No quiero destripar el final, el disco completo está en KZread al alcance de todos. Alrededor de Mecano se han generado muchas leyendas. Decían que "El amante de fuego" estaba basada en el incendio de la discoteca Alcalá 20, pese a que el incendio tuvo lugar después de que la canción se estrenase. O en una posesión diabólica, por más que la letra está refiriendo a una relación tóxica, en la que un novio posesivo agobia a su chica tratando de controlarla. María, la protagonista de "cruz de navajas", en realidad era lesbiana. Pese a que la canción deja claro que la muchacha estaba insatisfecha con su novio, no con su condición sexual. "Te busqué" hablaba de las cosas más bizarras, pese a que Nacho explicó mil veces que hablaba de la búsqueda espiritual de Dios. Y así podríamos seguir con un montón de rumores infundados sobre el grupo y su música. Con "hijo de la luna", la cosa alcanzó el clímax de la imaginación, ya que fue probablemente su mayor éxito en el mundo entero. Se llegó a decir que José la escribió para Isabel Pantoja, en su finca de Cantora. cuando lo cierto es que el mayor de los Cano la compuso en su casa de Ríos Rosas 54, en Madrid. La luna y el sol son temas recurrentes para José María. En realidad para toda la cultura mediterránea. Jose es un hombre muy instruido en los clásicos del arte grecorromano, del que posteriormente brotan todos los afluentes renacentistas y barrocos. "ignored the cause of albinism". What do you mean by "ignored"? If we're talking about ancient times it's all about rudimentary science and lack of knowledge about the world because of that. So they did not "ignored", they simply didn't know yet. They could not know.

This is the original song. The Cano brothers, Nacho and Chema, the other 2 thirds of the band, were genius songwriters. Ana's eerie vocals just added to their perfection.

Excelente recomendación. Lo mejor de la evolución de Mecano fueron sus letras, contar pequeñas historias con tanta riqueza literaria y en tan sólo pocos minutos. Creo que nuestra lengua es tan hermosa que podemos disfrutar con todos los sentidos de joyas como esta.

Mecano was a phenomenon all in itself. The Cano Brothers are gifted musicians and amazing songwriters (each with a completely different style of songwriting), then add the sweet and clear voice of Ana Torroja. Way, way ahead of their time with sound and lyrics.

Mecano was part of a branch of "Rock en Español" called "Rock Romántico" which was very big in Spain. Other groups of that movement include La Union, Duncan Dhu, and Hombres G, all of which are great bands worth checking out. These bands were also popular in Latin America, but no noteworthy bands surged in this side of the Atlantic that identified themselves with the movement.

*Saludos desde Caracas-Venezuela.* La canción titulada _«Hijo de la Luna»_ ( _‘Son of the Moon’_ ) es una canción del año 1986, incluida en el quinto álbum de Mecano titulado _«Entre el cielo y el suelo»;_ pero... durante la etapa de promoción de ese álbum, a medida que se iban extrayendo «singles» para promocionarlos en la radio, *sólo* se filmó un único videoclip y fue de la canción *_«No es serio este cementerio»,_* el videoclip fue filmado en uno de estos lugares donde hay automóviles abandonados ya vueltos chatarra -se tenía pensado filmarlo dentro de un cementerio real; pero luego pensaron que sería una falta de respeto para con los difuntos y por eso no lo hicieron... _«Hijo de la Luna»_ fue elegida como «single» promocional en la radio en el año 1987... NUNCA se filmó en ese tiempo el respectivo videoclip. Pasaron los años y llega el año 1991, y la publicación del álbum _«Aidalai»_ (edición en español, edición en italiano y edición en francés simultáneamente)... Que raro. No se de qué parte estarán hablando. Pero en Chile, Mecano tuvo un éxito increíble. Hijo de la luna es un clásico y creo que pocos no son capaces de identificar la canción al oír los primeros acordes. Algo similar sucede con El 7; de septiembre o Ana y Miguel. Aunque para mí Aire, esto no es una canción, tu, hermano sol hermana luna Son lo mejor Para gustos los colores

This is the original version. In terms of music composing, Mecano has been the best Spanish pop group in history. You should check more or their songs. I would kindly suggest "mujer contra mujer".

The song was written as is. Ana Torroja was the vocalist and Nacho & Jose Maria Cano were the musicians, both brothers wrote the songs and made all the musical arrangements.

Very popular Spanish song and band in all latin countries. They began doing tecno pop but evolucioned throw the years into other types of music. It depended if the songs were wrotten by one brother or the other. The firts Penélope Cruz appearance on television was in one of their videos, when she was 14 years old and one of the brothers (Nacho Cano) girlfriend. Only being a musician you can perceive all the quality and elegance of their songs. "Hijo De La Luna" is maybe their famous song out of Spain but the people who grow with their music, we know that all their discography was a neverending list or hits during 10 years.

Perdona, pero esta canción la escribió José María a cinco minutos de su casa, en el local en el que Mecano se reunía a ensayar. Y jamás fue un encargo para ninguna otra cantante. Ni la escribieron "ellos", sino él. Mecano suena diferente a Mecano, siempre. Porque Nacho y José son completamente diferentes. Y nada tienen que ver canciones como "maquillaje" con "la fábula", o "Eungenio Salvador Dalí" con "el amante de fuego".

@@aha3885 esta canción al igual que cruz de navajas se hicieron para Isabel Pantoja, y la RCA la rechazó porque estaba grabando ese año un disco íntegro con Juan Gabriel, lo han dicho mil veces. Y ya sé que cada uno componía lo suyo pero lo he dicho en general, pensé que para alguien que no conoce el grupo de nada no hacen falta más detalles 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@Vilonet pero es que para alguien que no conozca el grupo, lo de Isabel Pantoja es otra leyenda. Antes de empezar, un saludo y encantado. Siempre es bueno charlar con seguidores de Mecano. No pretendía ser rudo con mi apreciación inicial. Es cierto que de vez en cuando, tanto Nacho como Jose componían para otros artistas. Por ejemplo "No controles", para olé olé, o "Lía", para Ana Belén. Pero nunca para Isabel Pantoja, de la que para que te hagas una idea, se llegó a decir que sostuvo un romance con José María. Cuando en realidad, ni se conocen. Esto es algo contado por el propio jose en alguna entrevista, juraría que en la promoción de "Luna". Tanto esta canción, como cruz de navajas, fueron escritas con la única intención de incluirse en el repertorio de Mecano.

@@Vilonet lo que sí pasó fue que cruz de navajas no les gustaba mucho a Nacho&Ana, y tampoco a los de la discográfica. Al único que le parecía convencer era al pobre José María, que no consiguió que se lanzase como primer single del disco. Sin embargo esa fue la canción que impulsó a la banda en el mercado hispanoparlante, y marcó un antes y un después en la orientación musical /comercial de Mecano. A partir de ese éxito, el synthpop de Nacho perdió fuerza a la hora de incluirse en los discos finales, frente a las baladas de Jose. Lo de Sabina, la Pantoja, y todas esas historias, son cuentos chinos. Alrededor de Mecano se escribieron muchísimas leyendas. Como aquella del amante de fuego y el incendio de Alcalá 20. Lo mejor siempre es escuchar únicamente a los protagonistas. Y todo esto que te cuento se puede encontrar en las cientos de entrevistas que los tres componentes dieron a lo largo de los años.

La clave de Mecano no es Ana Torroja, son los hermanos Cano, músicos y compositores, sin ellos Mecano no hubiera existido, grandes voces hay muchas.

Mecano is, maybe, the greatest music ban d from Spain. Ana Torroja has a lovely beutiful voice but Jose Maria Cano, is an awesome composer!!!! All his songs are incredible sheets and the lyrics are pure literature. This orcherstra is part of the original song, Jose Maria has a very operistical sense of composing. "Hijo de la Luna" is a tragical and touching song about a gipsy woman that is killed by his husband because their child is albine and he thinks she cheated him with a white man. The history is decorated with a folk poetical background, telling that the woman, to charm her love interest, make a deal with the Moon. The Moon tells her that she wants to be a mother so, the man will fall in love with the woman but, in exchange, she will have to give her their first child. So it is suposed that because of this sourcery the child born albine. In the end the man abandones the child in the woods and the moon take care of him (the waning Moon became his cradle). And so, the deal is fulfilled. The typical story of twisted magic masterfully told. This is also inspired in Federico García-Lorca poems imaginery. "Hijo de la Luna" is a masterpiece of spanish modern music.

Mecano and Ana Torroja's solo career are amazing. Her voice is perfect.
