Last time i went there was to-Düsseldorf, + then did a day trip to Bochum to go and see Starlight Express was greta to see it again in Bochum. One of my fav Theme Parks in the world is: Europa Park. :-) I'm from UK in England. You ever been?

It was massive in Europe... and Brazil! 😅 She’s got around 15 European hits, plus a few songs with her ex husband’s group Enigma. Love Sandra, very very underrated star.

I loved her music in the 80's, but really loved Sandra's career in the 90's! She was "The voice of Enigma" that was one of my favorites, all through the decade.

Seriously! Sandra’s entire discography from 80’s till early 90’s is catchy as hell!

Sandra is fantastic her voice is unique and her music sounds so fresh even now.

This song first became a hit in Greece. The radio was playing it all the time “pirate” stations which were run without any license by ordinary people, usually teenagers or early 20s. At that time cafeterias, beach bars, etc were tuning to radio stations and the song was playing all the time. Back in the ‘80s German tourists were literally everywhere during summertime in Greece. Once the German tourists headed back to their homes in Germany, they were asking to hear the song again which was a reminder of their holidays in Greece, and it then became a hit in Germany and in more countries and Sandra well known as a solo artist.

She was very popular in Poland in 80's... Lot of her songs like "Maria Magdalena", "In the Heat Of the Night", "Everlasting Love", "We'll Be Together" and a lot of other were great hits here.

This was without any doubt Sandra biggest hit here in Portugal. This song still plays on AC radios every week.

Her voice was beautiful like Kylie Minogue.😊😊😊

Yes, Dereck, this is what called the Micahel Cretu effect. He is the genius in the background, her husband. He wrote thousands of megahits not only for his wife but for other german artists as well, even for himself as solo artist. Check out "Samurai" and "Gambit" from him.

Maybe an unpopular opinion. But German 80's group "Modern Talking" are worth listening too. Maybe with their most iconic song "You're my heart, you're my soul".

Sandra was also big in France in the 80's, and probably in other european countries. You should try her song "Everlasting love", the clip is fun and ridiculous, too, and the song so, so catchy!

This song was super-hot on the discos in Sweden in 1988-89, got many requests that the DJ had to play it "one more time" I was 21 then..

All backings on Sandra’s songs have been sung by Hubert Kemmler. In Germany famous and known as Hubert Kah.

My favourite singer ever! But we have to thank Michael Cretu as well, her producer & (ex)husband who created all her amazing hits! ( let alone Enigma - a masterpiece!) "Oh, my God!" Derek having an Eargasm! HUGE hit in Europe in 1985. Take a listen to Michael Cretu's (Her husband in the 80's-early 90's) hit "Samurai (Did you ever dream)". Fantastic track and HIT that too.

The guy who sang the backing vocals on this song and many other Sandra songs is Hubert Kemmler but the man in the video is named Peter Ries. While he may not have vocals in the song, he still has an amazing voice. He went by Gilbert in the early 80s and had great songs like Give A Little Love, I Don't Care, and So Jung but in 1985, he went by Steve Hall and had songs like Heartbeat (That's Emotion) and Operator in which the first was given to Sandra for her debut album. I highly recommend checking out his music. It's so addicting.

Sandra was huge in the 80's. Try 'Heaven can wait', it has a nice video accompanying this great catchy dance tune. Best album was Secret Land no fillers on that one. Prestine 80's synth pop. Her later work is more refined and incredibly good as well. She should be more remembered en appreciated, she is like a German Madonna and she did sell millions of records at the time.

Maria Magdalena's chorus is a straight rip-off of "Self Control" by 'Raf' (which was also covered by Laura Branigan) which came out the year before. 'Maria Magdalena' even uses the same words during the melodic part that was copied from 'Self Control'... _Self Control (1984):_ *I, I live among the creatures of the night* *I haven't got the will to try and fight* _Maria Magdalena (1985):_ I'll never be Maria Magdalena *(You're a creature of the night)* Maria Magdalena *(You're a victim of the fight)*

​​@@Music-tg5isI wouldn't say the melody is that similar tbh, but it very much could have been influenced by Raf, indeed. But the fact is that it's not known exactly, when Maria Magdalena was actually composed. Afaik, the story goes that MM was written in 1984 (or maybe even 1983, it's unclear) by the guy who sings bvox here (but he doesn't appear in the mv, the bass player just imitates singing) and was initially meant to be performed in German language by him solely, but then he changed his mind for some reason (probably thought this song wouldn't fit him) and decided to give it to Sandra. The lyrics were rewritten in English by another person and it's not known if the original German lyrics were any similar to the English ones (imho it's not likely, cause the guy shouting that he is not Maria Magdalena would be a bit weird), so it's hard to say if the authors of MM kept SC in mind or it was just a coincidence. Maybe cryptomnesia also played a part, cause although MM chorus melody is not completely identical to SC, it could cause such associations, and the English lyrics author could have unconsciously repeated SC lyrics. But we will never know, because Kemmler probably couldn't even remember writing this song anymore.

Oh boy this song bring back so many memories!!! That was her one of first tracks of her solo career after breaking up with Arabesque group (couple of attachments below). Great 80s!!!

In the early 80', Sandra was lead part of Arabesque with "Marigot bay" and "Sunrise in your eyes". Later she was more successful as a solo singer.
