This video you watched is a shortened version of the extended blooper reels from the DVDs they released. That's why they're uncensored with all the cursing. These clips never actually aired. If you search for it, you can find about 45 minutes worth of the full Whose Line bloopers.

They can edit about 4 to 6 shows from one 3 hour taping session. That is why they are wearing the same outfits and have the same audience in multiple shows. These censored blooper clips never made it on the original shows. I'm glad they weren't just discarded.

Drew, as a comedian, was on fire in the 90s and early 00s. He definitely got some chances to shine there on stage with the cast at times. His standup was really quite good.

Britt, some games had audience members participate, but usually in a passive way such as that game where they pretend they are actors who die while performing. Colin is usually the one who doesn't die and needs to keep the show going by moving the dead actors and saying their lines. The best audience participation game is called sound effects. Colin and Ryan act out a scene but two audience members do the sound effects, which usually they don't or in hilarious ways. Worth a watch as most of the sound effects games are really funny.

Colin Mochrie is Canadian, born in Scotland (so he has that British sense of humour that I love) and Ryan Stiles is American-Canadian, born in Seattle and raised partly in my hometown of Vancouver. That's why their comedy is what it is. It seems polite and laid back, but it creeps up on you into uncensored territory quickly.

There’s so many good games they had on this video….weird newscasters (Colin’s puns!!), video dating service, helping hands (so funny!), let’s make a date, party quirks….press conference is another good one; same with any of the question ones (questionable impressions…Collin is terrible at impressions; questions only, questions with wigs/hats, etc). They have to only ask questions and Ryan and Collin are usually on the opposite end of the stage because then they end up working a scene together and they just work off each other so well 😂😂

I couldn't find a compilation, but press conference is a hilarious one they didn't do nearly enough IMO. Colin gives a press conference but doesnt know his character and has to guess who he's supposed to be playing based on the questions the other people are asking him. It's a bit like their other game newscasters.

The show started in 1988 with Clive on the BBC in England. The last season was 1999 and filmed in Hollywood as a hand-over to Drew Carey. The outtakes showed up on "blooper reels" in the States but dont let that fool ya. In the U.K. that stuff was live on BBC 4. They knew they were going to package every inch of film for redistribution elsewhere. It's approaching its 30th year and there's also an Australian version.

The game with the two chairs and two women where Colin was spanking the girl with Ryan's hand is called Dead Bodies. It's Colin in a scene with usually three people and it's like, he pretends they're all dead and he has to move them in different positions to create the scene. Watch a clip on KZread and you'll see what I mean.

Yeah. So many clips of the stage manager or whoever he is cutting in to correct them, or say they can't air that, and it's usually Ryan in the background either pantomiming killing the manager or himself while he's distracted talking to Drew. Absolutely hilarious if you're in the audience watching it.

"Filmed in front of live audience" is also why a lot of gen z don't like 90s and 00s sitcoms: they don't understand how it is more like live theater than TV show. The audience gets warm up acts, often stand up comedian that performs a 15 minute set. It is a show for them, and we get to see the best takes. I've never been in one but i've worked on the soundstages before and after a show season. It can be a full 5 hour show to make these, with catering in between, sometimes even musical acts.. You are seeing "behind the scenes", there is whole lot of audience participation, cast member breaking from character and just performing for the audience. It is a feedback loop. Younger generations think it is canned laughter, fake. For sure, a lot of editing is done, and when the show isn't that great... canned laughter is added but in the best shows... a lot of it is real. And to be fair, multiple takes means the audience laughter may not be that great but in sound mixing you can use several takes to connect the best laugh to the best takes. But the ideal always is that every first take is kept and me move on, keep the audience entertained while cameras or set changes.

So these mostly come from the DVDs of the show. Had a friend who had the ENTIRE show on DVD and I borrowed and ripped a LOT of it. Sadly the hard drive I had it all on died long ago, and I lost basically the entire show, all the uncensored clips, and a lot of extras that the DVDs had. The show is still around today. I think the host is/was Aisha, or her name was something like that, I forget. I haven't watched in a long while. Used to be a website that hosted all of them, but I'm pretty sure it was taken down a few years back. If you're interested, the UK also had a version of the show.

The bloopers, of course, were always VERY funny. Your reactions to these, my dear Britt, were even funnier!

You need to go see "Whose Live Anyway" on stage. Ryan is still there, Greg and Jeff from the show are still with it. Joel is an addition. Still funny - and better live!

If you like seeing Drew participate in games, you could try clips from Drew Carey's Improvaganza. It was a live show in Vegas between the end of the first American series of Whose Line and the newer one. Includes many original Whose Line cast members, as well as others who would go on to be in the new version, and Drew is a participant in many of the games, rather than just being a host.

A former supervisor of mine, her husband served with Drew in the Marines (we're all from Cleveland). M said that Drew is actually very shy. I know that Robin Williams was also very shy and had depression. It seems alot of comedians are shy/reserved in RL, but get them on stage and they're hams. I found out the other week that Drew's ex-fiancee was murdered several years ago. They did get the guy, but I'm not sure if he's gone to trial yet.

If you like subtle jokes about racism, one of the running gags on the show was that if they were on NBC, Wayne wouldn't be allowed on the show. They were on in the same timeslot as NBC's Friends, which infamously had an essentially all white cast for most of its run. Ironically, the first non-white character of any significance was Charlie, played by Aisha Tyler, who would later host Whose Line starting with the 2013 renewal.

Shows doing "blooper reels" at the end of the season is a tradition. They used to be just for the wrap parties, but we often get to see them now. That one you didn't get...the prop looked like a hand, and Colin folded down all the fingers but the middle one.

The way they did the tapings, I think they did 24 or so games which would equal about 4 episodes so it would be long days of recording

I think these were the bloopers from the show, cut for timing, as they knew it wouldn't get past the censors, and unearthed for DVD/Internet. I know there's more, as I've seen an extra tens minutes, of more swearing, some of rare female stars doing faux inappropriate things, and Ryan really hating the Producer (Dan Patterson, guy with the clip board) as he would want to nix certain jokes about BJs and Trannies, or stop him from using the loo. It was well know that Ryan also hated doing songs, as he said he hasn't the voice for music; as he once famously finished the Hoedown with the iconic line "If I do another Hoedown, I'll slit my Fucking wrists" which everyone repeated the chorus. There's also a lot of him mocking Dan, miming actions, giving him the bird or mock air-masturbating behind his back. As wild as the show was, it has been slightly sedated by cutting the more outrageous games. Nearly 80% of them are gone, but the swearing is now allowed in the show. The funniest moments in the new one, heavily implies Host Alisha Tailor has a *Big Penis*, or hear gesturing to Wayne with the Microphone, that he has to measure up to it size, or else.

When I was in a troupe like this there was a "rule" about vulgarity. In that one if you slipped up you had to wear a waste paper basket on your head. That is until a specific time of the evening when we knew had enough cocktails and would intentionally go vulgar to rile the audience. Improv comedy is very fun btw. Anyone who has the opportunity should try it out.
