Funny, listening for the 1000th(?) time to this song by Angelina, the word painting just came to my mind too, because of all the beautiful colors in her voice, but the other art-form which seems to be related is 'dancing' because of her way of bending and swaying and pulsing the notes! You can see it back in her expressive gestures sometimes. And all of it comes out as if it's no effort at all, just natural! Insane talent!

Just close your eyes and tell me what the woman would look like if you heard this for the first time ! I guarantee it wouldn't be a 12 year old girl ! Her timbre with her low, raspy and unique vibrato are insane ! Angelina Jordan always amazes me that she can sing so effortlessly and it captivates me each and every time ! When I first discovered Angelina I immediately ran to my mother and made her do a blind listen of her rendition of I'd Rather Go Blind. I first played Etta's version, let it sink in for a few minutes and then played Angelina's and she immediately broke down and started crying. I asked her, "How old do you think this singer is?" and she said she must be in her late 50s or in her 60, an old soul. The look on her face when I turned her around showing her that that voice was coming from a 13 year old girl completely took her breath away. She proceeded to spend the next 6 hours listening to nothing but Angelina lol.

This is the song to first send a friend who has not heard of Angelina because they will also think she is lip synching and will start their exploration of how this girl can be real. Angelina is said to be one of the few vocalists that can do a complete song in a studio recording in one take because she can work in and around the music dynamically. This is exactly what you were saying about the karaoke back track…. she was right on as to her timing, her delivery with the beat which makes this feel more organic than canned. Did you notice how long the lines were between breaths? Actually a hard song to sing.

Because for much of this video you cannot see Angelina's mouth quite a few reactors couldn't believe she is actually singing this :) Anyone who knows her voice knows it is unmistakabe.... so beautiful.

Perhaps that is why her other cover of Lana is shot from the side. At times she does lip-sync to her own singing. This is the case for ‘I’d rather go blind’. Even though those performances are usually still a one take recording.

@@pietersbart Clearly the video and audio were recorded in different file formats, you can get sync distortions when put together. Professional recording uses timecode and real video frame formats, avoiding that kind of problem.

@@luis3mgm Her singing and performing are always professional, the early video recordings not always. In her early recording of I Have Nothing, you see her clap her hands before the recording. That gives an audio and a visual cue to sync video and audio later on :-)(

And the crazy part she's only 12 years old and this is when she was so good The ages of 8 9 10 11 12 13 I mean she's always been good but these are my favorite ages of her vocal but now she's a master at her beautiful musical craft

I fully understand. There are so many first time reactors that think it’s no real. She is just so special and unique.

Vocal perfection on display by a 12 year old. I doubt if any one of any age could ever top this vocal performance of Angelina, some one may do it different but this will remain the gold standard for this one for eons to come . Angelina's voice is just pure magic, meaning it is not possible, but yet it is .

I can't pick my favorite song because each and every performance is a testimony to the fact that Angelina Jordan is not of this world, she is like nothing that has ever existed in the past or is likely to in the future. We are so lucky to be in this time and place in the midst of this phenomenal STORYTELLER, and she is only 17. She is a song writers dream come true, both for those written in the past and those to be written in the future.

Just a stunning artist I don’t care how old she is, Angelina is great at any age. Unashamedly a fan of Angelina AND your channel keep up your good work

Yep, that's our girl. She does it to us yet again. One of the early songs I heard from her and I realized I had no idea what was going on. Talent was obvious but I was bewildered and set out on a quest to understand what was happening. Still stuck on raw talent (and beauty and love) although I now know vocabulary to describe some of what I'm hearing. The mic was her 12th birthday present.

Some just don't want to believe she that great at that young age ,thumbs up to you 👍

To me, STAY is even more impressive. No karaoke backing track, so she can set the pace herself. Same lyrics, same melody and just through the arrangement and the use of her voice a completely different meaning emerges.

As a result of skepticism, whether this was really Angelina singing, she rarely used pop filters after this video. Turns out we love hearing every sound she creates, sounds that filters would deny us.

In her case it can only be said Born to sing, thank for the beautiful reaction, Britt. Angelina's musical vision transcends the ordinary and she always manages to give an innovative reading that makes us appreciate and love the songs better that sing, at any age she does. This gorgeous girl has a musical sensibility and expressive ability that is beyond my comprehension. Angelina's passion and talent are just amazing.💛🧡❤

Forget her age, this performance is a masterpiece. If this was a commercial release it would sell, up into the charts.

Angelina's singing is as easy for her as it is for most people to just breathe. Look at the expressions on her face when she ends a song with a powerful extended belt to it. Most singers would be breathless, she doesn't even bat an eye.❤

Many have accused Angelina of lip-syncing on this video because of the pop filter covering her mouth. After this she never had the pop filter in front, always to the side where you can see her face and mouth.

That microphone is a Neumann TLM 103 Condensor Microphone, a gift to Angelina when she was 12. She still uses it. I absolutely approve of that sound!

Another example of AJ taking a Lana Del Ray classic and making it her own. There are 2 other outstanding "sessions" at he same time as this one...Rihanna's "Stay" and Adele's " A Million Years Ago. These 3 are on the top half of my AJ Favorites, especially "Stay"

I am always taken aback when she sings even tho I have been listening to her for about 4 or 5 years

The first time she used that Neuman mic was with the Etta James classic, id rather go blind. Neumans are industry proven perfect for this. I think it was a gift for her 12th birthday

Sometimes, people forget that this is a 12 year old girl doing a KZread jam session at home. Singing with her new microphone, she's in the learning stage of what the video should look like. While she published the video, as-is, she learned she shouldn't cover her face behind the microphone screen. (One reactor used an enhanced filter to see her singing behind the filter.)

Cannot get enough of this song

One reactor lightened up the pop filter area and you can see she is singing. After this performance, Angelina no longer used the pop filter (which wasn't needed anyway since her magic Neumann TLM-102 has it built-in), and she turned 90 degrees so everyone could see her mouth. No one does Lana Del Ray covers better than Angie! The microphone is said to have been a twelfth birthday (January 10) gift but did not appear until April of 2018, 4 months later (per a good friend of the family who was there when she opened the box). She has used that microphone for everything done in her home studio since. She might have upgraded to the TLM-103, a much more expensive mike, at some point more recently. The TLM-103 is quite a bit larger and has better specs.

I never understood what the point of this criticism was. It is unmistakably her voice. In such cases it is good to have a unique voice. Which artist is she supposed to be lip-synching here (other than herself maybe)? How do you tell the difference between 102 and 103? If I, as a layman, see the pictures of both types side by side, there is no visual difference (since the 103 is almost twice as expensive, there must be a difference - but I can't SEE it).

@@paulwagner9303 The most obvious differences are that the 102 has a slightly thinner, shiny silver ring between the grille (top) and the base (bottom) with no visible screws in the ring itself, while the 103 has a slightly wider, duller "brushed metal" ring (same color as the base) with three screws in it (two of which are visible from the side with the logo, and one from the other side). Apart from that, the 103 is a little bigger overall (and more than twice as heavy, BTW) and has a somewhat shorter base to go with the wider ring.

One of my favorite recordings of Angelina's rich lower register with the switch up to the higher octaves. Lovely recording but I wish the pop filter didn't cover her mouth. Other recordings show her from the side so as not to cover her face.

Angelina has performed a couple of Lana Delrays’s songs including Young and Beautiful. Lana is a good writer with a very pleasant voice. Compared to Angelina Lana appears a little shy and has more of a monotone range lacking in “color”. I first saw this video over 3 years ago and thought the same thing you did about is she really singing this? I then watched the official Lana video and a live performance by Lana and then totally preferred this AJ performance by a 12/13 year old!

@@DonaldLancon yes, more likely the harmony is in a karaoke track rather than that she used a vocal harmonizer. Not bad pin pointing a version when there are many karaoke version all based on the same midi track.

You should absolutely listen to/ watch the original by Lana Del Rey. Angelina's version is a 100 times better than the original. By the way this is he 1st song I heard from Angelina. I was more curious about the title "Born to Die" which sounded like a movie title, a James Bond or a Mission Impossible movie. Needless to say that from that moment on, I was completely hooked.

Interesting that you censored the title here (you don't have to explain why). Angelina actually changed the lyrics slightly on this one: where she sings, "Let me hug you hard in the pouring rain", Lana Del Rey sang in the original, "Let me kiss you hard in the pouring rain" (and in live performances Lana sometimes sings something quite a bit more explicit, which I'll leave to your imagination).

There was another reactor a few months ago that said because he couldn't see her lips moving behind a pop filter that this absolutely was not her singing of course he doesn't know what you and I know... BTW Lana del Rey made a lot of money off of this song...

Lana Del Rey is an excellent singer with very beautiful and particular songs, the fact is that Angelina has a crazy vocal baggage and therefore the 2 covers she has done are out of reach for Lana, she respects them without distorting them but raises them to a prohibitive level for anyone, if you then add the fact that you performed them at the age of 12/13, delete any further comment. Thanks Britt for yet another review, have a good life.. Massimo😍

She seems to ruin everyone's song for them after she sings them and I mean that in a good way meaning after she's done with it it's just not the same for the original artist. Perhaps the only exception to this was Bohemian Rhapsody but even then she did that so well that Queen gave her the copyrights to her version of it

That voice does not match that face. Incredible!
