Another fun one is "Circle with Me." For something a little calmer, there is "Constance." Have tissues ready for that one tho

The vocal one take of their song Circle With Me really showcases her and the bands growth as writers and hers as a vocalist.

Mara@ Silverside for a musical rollercoaster epic. Blessed Be for more like this. Circle With Me is similar but with some very familiar modern pop techniques in the vocal comp.

Great reaction, man! I believe this style of music is considered Metal Core (or Metalcore), but I am certainly no expert. Just like you, I was not a fan of this style of metal with the screaming/growls in the past, but I heard the song Pisces by the Ukrainian band Jinjer 3-4 weeks ago and I became fascinated, maybe obsessed, with this subset of metal core with female singers (although, I've only listened to a bunch of songs from Jinjer and Spiritbox so far). What really drew me in was the way Tatiana and Courtney can instantly transition from angelic voices with great tone and control right into the super powerful screams/growls to accentuate the increased emotions, plus both Jinjer and Spiritbox have excellent songwriting with beautiful catchy melodies and great underlying arrangements and hooks. Their feel of the songs do differ somewhat between bands from what I've heard in my limited listening thus far, with Spiritbox generally having a more "ethereal" sound using lush, droning synth pad-like sounds (although, I believe the guitarist does all the layers himself with effects and tracks on Reaper because they have no keyboardist) overlying driving guitar/low 5-string bass/drum grooves and under her beautiful vocals, while Jinjer uses a lot of intricate cool guitar/bass riffs over really hip drum grooves with the use of polyrhythms and ghost notes on the snare (which I think is super cool) and then the "secret sauce" of Tatiana's kick-a$$ vocals over the top.

I thing I forgot to mention...I'm still not a big fan of metal core bands with male singers, especially ones who scream through the majority of the songs and who's songs are all at about 160bpm and are saturated with insanely fast guitar/bass riffs, which to me, is tiring and doesn't sound "musical" (OK, we all know you have great chops and are really angry, but every now and then chill the F**k out and write something melodic! 😆)

Damn, for someone who just got into this genre you sure know your stuff, its great to see curious people. You should definitely try out Architects, The Agonist, The Ghost Inside, While She Sleeps and maybe even Dance Gavin Dance, though its a bit different

@@yannjoanno6933 Thanks. I've been a musician since I was a kid, so I know a lot of music theory and I've listened to multiple genres of music over the years, including rock, soul, R&B, jazz, fusion, classical and "radio friendly" metal like the hits from Ozzy, Iron Maiden, Metallica, etc, but somehow I never delved into the metalcore genre...until now!

Spiritbox is kind of taking over the metal world the last year. While no two tracks really sound the same, they all have a certain cohesion to them that makes you say “yep, this is Spiritbox.” Courtney is actually quite often on vocal rest when not recording or performing, as she had a growth on her vocal chords. She is quite a bit different from most people who do harsh vocals, and is about 30% louder than pretty much anyone else with no amplification.

Yeah, it's so fun to sing along too as well it's so relaxing like literally wo knows why some wierd lizard brain thing it;s satisfying to pull off. Just the same as hitting that note perfectly also people thinking that metal heads just stupid for listening to it but the only growlers that are popular are the ones who can can and do sing. Seriously opera singers best growlers 100% of the time better singer better more versatile growler.
