First Start Attempt On The Non-Running Yamaha Raptor 660 Quad

I replace the timing chain and valve on my 2002 Yamaha Raptor 660cc quad. I originally bought this for cheap, and this will be the first start attempt. Will It run? #Yamaha, #Raptor, #WillItRun?,

Quit hitting the throttle dude, a high compression engine won't start if you keep dickking around with the throttle like that it wanted to start a few times with just gas down the throat when you left the throttle alone lol just pour more gas down and lay off the throttle and let it start by itself it'll do it....

That must have been the best feeling ever. A few months ago I bought a non running polaris predator (finding parts for this atv was ROUGH). Cleaned fuel tank, repalced petcock, fuel lines, sparkcap, battery, spark plug, fuel pump and carb still wouldnt start. messed with it for an hour and realized the grounding cable from the battery just wasnt tight enough. tightned it, got it running and sold for a $2000 profit. I think i wanna get a fixer upper raptor next! Great video thank you!

I want to say love your work, The only suggestion I have, I ran my own small engine shop for 10 years, and whenever I saw a bent valve on a head and had it broken down as far as you have this one, I always marked the valves as to their location and removed all the valves checked the springs hight and decarbonized everything with a soak and brushing in Seafoam and then hand lapped all the valves to the matching seats, and I also checked the head and cylinder surfaces for square and flatness, before reassembling them and of course all new high-quality gasket sets and new valve seals always. But you do a good job brother.

I've had my 2001 since 2007 I never ever use the parking brake so one time years ago the parking brake switch got bumped just enough to activate it and tried riding it and it would not rev out just bumble at low rpms, I was baffled pulled the carbs (pain in the ass every time) and nothing ....then I see the little lever pulled out a little bit I pushed it in an wabahhhh it was back. I was so happy and discussed at the same time. I does not take much to make a 660 wake up from its fairly docile rider friendly stock form. Mine has a hot cam (stage one I would think but not shure) big gun headpipe, R4 silencer, air box mods with k&n filter, and a DynoJet kit and it flat out rips for those few mods.it will walk right away from a stock 660 with just a slip on. I also went -1 tooth front and +2 on back and a set of 18" on back (20" front), it dropped top speed to around 60ish from 80ish but it gained retarded acceleration and snappiness, hardest part is keeping front down when it hooks. Unless you desert or road ride you don't need an 80mph top end. You can shift as fast as you can blip the clutch bam bam bam, pretty wild for sport wheeler, these guys that say "my 450 will dust a raptor" are full of crap 450 MAY edge out a raptor in a drag race but it won't "dust" it. I've seen plenty of videos where there neck n neck and even after switching riders.... The raptors definitely have more Tq but they are 50lbs heavier and power curve is waaaay different. It's apples to oranges 2 very different machines for 2 different purposes but both are fast and both have there pros and cons. I will say Off the show room floor a 450 is definitely faster.

I was in shock because i dont think ive seen one that tight, there was maybe a quarter to half inch of slack after the oem went in. I also replaced the tensioner with new oem because i believe that was part of the issue. Supposedly the tensioners are a known failure point! Hope this helps man 👊🙌

Dont give it that mutch gas when starting. Most 4 stroke carbs have a jet that squirts fuel into your intake. So everytime the throttle opens fuel shoots into the intake, this way you could easily flood your bike. Just a tip for next time.

That mark inside the crank case is probably where the chain nearly came off the cog and got all the stretch, but mad that the valve didnt crunch the piston crown.....or did it?. The problems with bike shops is they never want to do the short fix it would have been all the valves need changing or re seating , all new springs and seals, probably would have put a whole new top end in also (just to be safe ) and the bill would have been about $2500 minimum.

@@shaynedonnelly374 he doesn't know jack shit about a good running bike. I vouch for every thing you mentioned above, this guy doesn't take advice, he thinks he knows it all and doesn't. Lol nearly all his two stroke videos he says "this thing rips" or "okay its perfect now".. After he throws low end inferior junk parts at it... And I haven't seen one video of a decent running bike that he's got to run, they all take forever to start, have issues still, and he's scared or a power band, never felt a properly tuned bike. Lol his neighbor let him "tune" his kx65 and it blew up the next ride out.... Blew it up from messing with jets (too lean) or from improper torque creating a massive air leak.

Why didn't you just replace all of the valve seals? ... and lap all of the valves? ... as long as you had it tore down that far?

Hey man, I’ve got a Kawasaki bayou 300 and it will start and run but once it gets warm it just wants to quit as soon as I give it throttle, I’ve checked the valves and timing, it has a new carb, and it has compression, do you have any idea on what that is?
