    I had bought a brand new 660 raptor in 2003. Put a Yoshimura pipe and headers on it. Put a K&N Pro flow air filter kit on it. Jetted the carbs dont remember exactly the size. It was 150-155 or 155 -160. Went up one tooth on front sprocket. Put in a wiseco high compression poston standard bore. AND ALSO A WEBB CAM . Had the head ported and polished and stiffer valve springs 3 angle valve job. We did go with a higher Rev limiter but i can remember what rpms were.And you want to talk about power and fun as hell to ride. That set up sounded good to without being all noise. It was a great set up for a good all around ride and dependability was great. Never blew up or gave problems

    I'm in the process of rebuilding/ restoring my 05 Raptor 660SE. I've already went thru the suspension and replaced all bearings and bushings as well as new rear axle guts. New chain and sprockets. Fixing little things here and there. I was ready to start it and it wouldn't start. Im sure the carbs need a good cleaning. This video really helped me out. I may be writing you back again if I run into issues. I gotta get my baby going again. Bought her new in December 2004, she's been down 3 years. But not much longer.

    The discoloration on the fenders you can use a little fire to bring the color back

  • @dwayneb3041
    @dwayneb30417 ай бұрын

    @2vintage you can fix the white appearance to the rear plastics. When plastics bend they get white appearance from micro cracks and stretching of the plastic. All you need is a heat gun on high. Hold about 2 to 3 inches from the plasic. Move back and forth along the white line. When you see it start to change. Work small fast circles in the area then move along as it goes back to original color. Basically melting the micro cracks and stretch back together. When it starts to change start moving faster. You dont want to burn the plastics. Then spray when hot with tire shine to give an ultra gloss look. When you get the hang of it please show it on a video. pls thanks

    Joe, I had an 01 for many years. Built the engine on it due to oil comsumption and I couldn't keep the intake valves adjusted. If you have to tear it down, a couple tips. Get the vesrah stainless intake valves, the titanium ones just tulip and wear out. Also, stick with stock compression or close, the starter clutch on those and the gear it rides on is pretty weak and just can't handle any more compression. They do offer an upgraded gear and billet starter clutch, but they don't last either. Great stuff man, motivates me to fix a few again!!

    I bought one of these in 2001 brand new for $5800 kept it a year before the transmission started acting up. All the forums were reporting the transmissions were bad. Even having plastic parts in them. So I sold it immediately for $4800 so I basically paid $1000 to ride it for year.

    41:04 is there a bolt holding the engine to the frame missing? You can just see the hole above the coolant hose.

    I had a 2001 raptor 660 too. Fair warning these are notorious for the transmission blowing apart. Mine granated and split the entire cases front to back and side to side and broke a piece of case out the size of two half dollars. These need the updated 2003 transmissions.
